Brookwood School District 167 Parent Information FAQ’s For In-Person & Remote Instruction Do I Need To Self-Certify My Child(ren) Each Day? Each student in the District is required to self-certify daily before they enter the school building. If you have more than one (1) child in the district, you will need to self-certify each child individually. How Do I Self-Certify My Child?

There are two (2) ways parents can self-certify their child:

• Parents can complete an electronic form on PowerSchool; (Parents log in, under the navigation column, they choose forms, choose General Forms, and click on Brookwood School District Self-Certification Procedures/ Expectations. At the bottom of the form they type in their name and click submit.

• By paper form. Each family was mailed pads of selfcertification forms. Self-Certification Forms will be collected or checked for completion on PowerSchool as students enter the school.

What Should My Child Bring To School Each Day? Students will need to bring their charged electronic device and charger each day. Students should also bring any school issued textbooks or workbooks. Students will be provided by the District their own personal school supplies that will remain in their classroom that includes paper, pencils, art supplies, and an individual computer/electronic device case. • Three (3) reusable cloth masks; • Personal Hand Sanitizer; • Personal pocket facial tissue

Will My Child Be Able To Bring Bottled Water? Yes, we encourage parents to send their child with a bottle of water each day. The water fountains in the school are blocked off. What Should My Child Expect When They Arrive At School? Students will enter at a specific door (please contact your child’s Principal). When students arrive, they will be temperature checked, and self-certification forms will be collected or checked for completion on PowerSchool. Students will then be escorted to their classrooms.

Will My Child’s Schedule Stay The Same? Schedules for remote and in-person students won’t drastically change for students in grades K-6, however, students in grades 7th and 8th will have a schedule change if they are reporting onsite. Please check with your child’s Principal to determine if there is a change.

Will In-Person Students Be Entering In The Same Door And MRS. SANDRA WASHINGTON, Leaving Through The Same Door? BOARD VICE PRESIDENT There are designated doors for entry and exit per grade level. Please check with your child’s Principal. MS. MARY TAYLOR, When And How Will Students Be Dismissed From School? All schools will have a staggered release time for walkers, car riders and bus students. Please check with your child’s Principal for exact times. Will My Child Have To Wear A Mask All Day? Yes, all students are expected to wear their mask appropriately while at school (covering their nose and mouth). Students will be able to remove their mask under the following conditions:

Can My Child Still Work Remotely If They Are Supposed To Be In- MRS. SANDRA WASHINGTON, Person? BOARD VICE PRESIDENT Yes, if they are engaged remotely for the entire day. MS. MARY TAYLOR, Can My Child Bring Their Own Lunch? BOARD SECRETARY Yes, students can bring a sack lunch, however, students will not be able to heat up anything they bring for lunch.

The District will provide all students with a cold lunch each day that consists of a sandwich, juice, a cup of fruit, milk and a condiment. Students will be staying in the classroom to eat lunch.

What If My Child Has To Use The Washroom? Each school has washroom breaks built into the school day. Students will be escorted to the washroom to ensure social distancing requirements are maintained. If students have a washroom emergency, they should let their teacher know and someone will come and escort them to the washroom.

Brookwood School District 167 Parent Information FAQ’s For In-Person & Remote Instruction When Should I Keep My Child Home From School? If your child exhibits any of the following symptoms, they should not attend school in-person: • • • • • • • •

Fever over 100.4 or higher New onset moderate to severe headaches Shortness of breath New cough, vomit, or diarrhea Abdominal pain New congestion/runny nose Loss of sense of taste or smell Fatigue from unknown source, muscle or body aches

How Will Contact Tracing Be Conducted?

What If My Child Gets Sick At School Or Needs To See The Nurse? If a student is requesting to see the nurse, she will come to the classroom to assess the student’s condition to determine if the student needs to be taken to the Nurse’s Office or the Quarantine Room.

Each classroom will include a contact tracing log to ensure that students and staff who have recently been in close contact with a person infected with the virus are notified as quickly as possible to prevent the spread.

What Happens If My Student Is Brought To The Quarantine Room? MRS. SANDRA WASHINGTON, If a student is exhibiting Covid-19 symptoms or if it has been determined they have been exposed to Covid-19, a parent will be contacted and they will be given a mandatory Quarantine Notice that will require them to quarantine for fourteen (14) days. The notice will include a date when it will be safe for their child to return to school.

If My Child Is Quarantined, Can They Still Work Remotely From Home?

Yes, if students are able, they can attend their classes remotely and they will not be marked absent as long as they attend all classes and adhere to the remote requirements of being present during synchronous instruction. How Safe Will My Child Be In The Classroom? The District has ensured that every classroom is set up so that students remain six (6) feet apart, and each classroom has been stocked with disposable masks, gloves, facial tissue, hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, plastic desk/table dividers, and Hospital Grade Air Purifiers. How Will Students Be Kept Safe While In The Hallways? Students will be required to wear their mask appropriately and social distance by six (6) feet while walking in the hallways. Brookwood School District 167 Parent Information FAQ’s For In-Person & Remote Instruction Cleaning Protocols (Deep Cleaning Dates) Our custodial staff will clean AND disinfect frequently touched surfaces numerous times daily. The IDPH Guidelines state cleaning and disinfection of schools should be done routinely. We will increase our standard cleaning and disinfection practices. We will increase the frequency of cleaning and disinfection with a focus on areas that are commonly touched, Including tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, bathroom fixtures, faucets, and sinks.

Will My Child Be Able To Still Ask Questions If They Are Remote?

Yes, SWIVL allows teachers to be able to hear student’s responses during the lesson. Students that are remote can communicate verbally, by typing in the chat, or by clicking on the raise hand icon, which sends a specific sound to the teacher to alert them the student has a question.

Will My Child Be Able To Participate In P.E.? Yes, students will be having P.E. Students should wear comfortable clothing and footwear as they will not be able to change clothes or shoes for P.E. class. Students will not be sharing P.E. equipment, however, they will be able to participate in physical activity.
