Hurricane Sandy had put the entire Northeast on edge. The sale crew even took time Monday afternoon to lay in some peanut butter, bread, water and cookies just in case. Thankfully, Sandy skipped most of Vermont including the Middlebury - West Cornwall area. 259 head made sale ring appearances in the 7 hours of sale time taken. Darrell Worden, WI and David Rama, NY shared the gavel. Ring staff included Raymond LeBlanc, VT, Reg Lussier, VT, John Nop, VT, Marcus Mueller, QU, Gordon DeMay, NY and Jerry Harkness, NY. Sale manager, Norman C. Magnussen handled the pedigree announcements through out the day. The reasonable high seller at $3000.00 to Robert Gould, MA was Lot 149 a 10/11 Elk Creek Ace Eddie from a 2E91 Beamer with 24,050 who also sold with 9 years of experience for $1600.00 to Bryan Chicoine, VT Top cow was Lot 765 IDR Jonlee Mack Windermere at $2500.00 to Michael Goodwin, NY. Chelsea Young, VT selected Lot 944 Jonlee Secret Whitbysteads at $2450.00 for second high cow honors. Of the 259 head sold breakdowns are as follows: 135 cows – 31 short bred heifers – 92 open heifers & calves 98 head were RF, IDR, IE or Holsteins. 71 cows were from 5 to 10 years old. Of the 92 open heifers, 69 were under 1 year old The milk cows sold for an average of $1348.56. The lots went to 51 buyers from 8 states with 26 head going to Canada. John & Lisa are very much looking forward to following the accomplishments of their Jonlee / Butterwick cattle in other dairies throughout the Northeast.
