TORONTO When they established their new village along Lake Ontario, the Huron Indians named it “Toronto,” which means “meeting place.” For centuries since,Toronto has been just that to people from all over the world; a place to meet, eat, learn and trade together. It’s one of the most multicultural cities in the world and Canada’s largest. It is home to over 100 cultures and almost five million people. The New York Times recently said of this city:“After 40 years of immigration from virtually every country,Toronto has realized its promise as a vibrant picture postcard of world culture.”

Open to international students, over 85 Co-op programs are offered across all academic departments – the arts, science and management. As part of the Co-op degree requirement, students gain 6 to 12 months of paid work experience. The programs are structured so that students alternate academic terms of full-time courses with work terms in which they are not taking any courses, but instead working full-time. The majority of students still graduate within four years. The Co-op work terms are located off campus in industries, organizations or businesses closely related to

the students’ field of study. Our expert staff network with employers to develop extensive employment possibilities and prepare students for the competitive job market. Co-op students benefit from being in the city of Toronto – Canada’s economic, technological, cultural and artistic powerhouse. Students can study and work in the same city, without disruption or relocation.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS ENGLISH FACILITY

MEAL PLANS

Students whose first language is not English may be required to present proof of their facility in English. Those who have achieved satisfactory academic progress in at least four years of study in an English language school system located in a country whose dominant language is English are exempt from meeting this requirement. The University of Toronto accepts a variety of international English language tests and will also exempt if certain courses have been completed with high standing (such as English A HL in the International Baccalaureate program or GCSE/IGCSE/Ordinary level English). Some of the more popular tests are outlined on this page. For more information, or if you are uncertain whether you will be required to take an English facility test, please visit our website.

Students living in dorm style residences will be required to purchase meal plans. For students living in apartment or townhouse style residences, meal plans are not required. Full kitchens are provided that allow students to cook their own meals. For those students who prefer a meal plan, there is the option of purchasing a declining balance meal card through campus food services.
