Conception d’une librairie rue de Rome, Marseille. Ce projet s’inscrit sur une parcelle longue et étroite de 160 m2. Le geste initiateur a été de tracer un passage droit et clair, une coupe franche dans la parcelle comme dans l’îlot, et reliant les rues de Rome et de la Palud qui l’entourent. Cette faille, qui a évolué en un bloc vitré accueillant l’escalier, a dessiné deux volumes asymétriques qui se répondent en offrant des usages différents. Largement ouverts sur la circulation centrale, les volumes s’organisent sur quatre étages décalés d’un demi-niveau. Le plus large des blocs renferme les espaces de lecture, des présentoirs mobiles, la caisse ainsi que l’ascenseur desservant également le toit-terrasse ouvert au public. L’autre volume accueille les étagères de livres, ainsi qu’un local technique en rezde-chaussée. Les décalages entre les blocs, en coupe et en plan, laissent largement circuler la lumière et permettent de tirer un profit maximum du volume vitré, composant essentiel sur cette parcelle encaissée. Les façades de bois sont légèrement décollés des nez de dalles et laissent filtrer un léger rai de lumière sur leur pourtour. Conception of a library on rue de Rome, Marseille. This project takes place on a long and narrow parcel of 160m². The initiating gesture was to trace a straight and clear passage, a clean cut in the plot and the block connecting the streets of Rome and de la Palud. This breach, that evolved into a glazed block housing the staircase, draws two asymmetrical volumes that respond by offering different uses. Widely open on the central circulation, the volumes are organized on four floors staggered of half a level. The largest of the blocks contains reading areas, mobile displays, the reception as well as the elevator also serving the roof terrace open to the public. The other volume houses the bookshelves and a technical room on the ground floor. The displacements in height and in plans between the blocks allow the light to circulate widely and provides maximum benefit from the vitreous volume, which is an essential component on this tight parcel. The wooden panels-facades are slightly detached from the slabs to let in a discret light ray along their circumference.

Création d’un pôle culturel en centre-ville, sur le Vieux-Port de Marseille. La parcelle, au carrefour du port, de la Canebière, de la rue de la République et du palais de la Bourse doit composer avec l’influence de ces symboles urbains historiques. Ici le parti est de proposer, en contrepied du bâti haussmanien, un objet dynamique, lisse et déstructuré. Le plan comme la coupe se découpe en lignes obliques qui redessinent l’espace public. L’entrée, discrète, située au niveau -1 est desservie depuis le Vieux-Port par une pente douce et depuis la Bourse par de larges escaliers qui invitent à la déambulation autour de l’édifice. L’espace intérieur se répartit sur deux étages en plateaux libérés de tout élément structurel grâce à l’ossature métallique rejetée vers les seuls murs extérieurs. Les espaces se veulent modulables et plurifonctionnels. Le vaste toit-terrasse, équipé d’un bar et de sanitaires et en partie couvert par l’immense casquette qui enveloppe le bâtiment est un lieu social diurne comme nocturne. Outre l’accueil, le sous-sol reçoit un auditorium de 200 places.

Creation of a cultural center in a city center, on the Old Port of Marseille.

The plot is at the crossroads of the port, the Canebière, the rue de la République and the Palais de la Bourse and has to cope with the influence of these historic urban symbols. The proposition is a dynamic, smooth and destructured object in opposition to the Haussmanian buildings. The plane as the cut is sliced in oblique lines that redefine the public space. The discreet entrance, located at level -1 is served from the Vieux Port by a gentle slope and from the Palais de la Bourse by wide stairs that invite to the wandering around the building. The interior space is distributed over two storeys in trays freed from any structural element thanks to the metal framework rejected towards the external walls. The spaces are intended to be modular and multi-functional. The large roof-top is a terrace equipped with a bar and sanitary facilities and partly covered by the huge cap which envelops the building. It is a day and night social place. In addition to the reception, the basement receives an auditorium of 200 seats

Maison économique et soutenable dans un quartier périphérique à Zapopan, Mexique. Cet exercice proposé à l’école d’architecture de Guadalajara, consistait en l’élaboration d’une réponse aux problématiques du logement individuel dans les quartiers périphériques pauvres de la ville. Les infrastructures publiques (eau, électricité, transports...) y sont souvent inexistantes et les conditions sociales éprouvantes : misère, chômage, violence, trafics. L’enjeu est de taille : trouver une qualité de vie dans ce contexte difficile à moindre coût et selon une logique de soutenabilité environnementale. Bien que d’une échelle modeste, ce projet interroge les stratégies de construction et d’ambiance, le choix et l’économie des matériaux, les technologies au défi de l’économie et de l’écologie, etc. Mais il s’agit aussi de considérer les modes d’habiter dans les milieux urbains et périurbains défavorisés, une problématique majeure dans le Mexique actuel.

Affordable and sustainable house in a suburban neighborhood of Zapopan, Mexico. This exercise proposed at the School of Architecture of Guadalajara, consisted in the elaboration of a response to the problems of individual housing in the poor peripheral neighborhoods of the city. Public infrastructures (running water, electricity, transport ...) are often non-existent and the social conditions are tough : misery, unemployment, violence, trafficking. The stakes are high: to find a quality of life in this difficult context, at a lower cost and according to a logic of environmental sustainability. Although of a modest scale, this project questions the construction and ambiance strategies, the choice and the economy of the materials, the technologies with the challenge of cost savings and ecology, etc. But it is also raised the question of considering ways of living in disadvantaged urban and peri-urban areas, a major problem in today’s Mexico.

Tour de logements en bois de 25 étages avec espaces partagés, dans un parc résidentiel. Au coeur de la ville de Guadalajara, ce programme d’habitation s’inscrit dans un projet global de rénovation des environs du parc Agua Azul. Figure symbolique de la modernisation de ce quartier, cette tour en matériaux durables se veut un nouveau point de repère au centre de l’agglomération. La structure se décompose autour d’un noyau en béton contenant les circulations verticales, et d’une grille en bois lamellé-collé composant les étages. Ce tissage mêle en façade murs porteurs, nez de dalles et lames brises-soleils de manière à révéler le système porteur tout en le fondant dans un maillage irrégulier. Profond, le quadrillage prolonge les balcons et en crée dans son épaisseur. Le programme offre par ailleurs un salon panoramique au dernier étage ainsi que deux espaces partagés entièrement ouverts au R+9 et sur le toit-terrasse, agrémenté d’un terrain de sport. En RDC le restaurant offre une double ouverture sur la place Benito Juarez réaménagée, et sur le parc résidentiel accueillant la tour, créé en place de locaux industriels désaffectés. 25-storey wooden housing tower with shared spaces, in a residential park. In the heart of the city of Guadalajara, this housing program is part of a global project to renovate the surroundings of Agua Azul Park. Symbolic figure of the modernization of this district, this tower, whose proportions do not exceed those of its neighbors, stands as a new landmark in the center of the agglomeration. The structure is composed of a concrete core containing the vertical circulation, and a grid of glued laminated timber slats composing the floors. On the facade, this weaving combines visually support walls, slabs and sun-breaker blades so as to reveal the carrier system while blurring it with irregular spacings. One meter deep, the grid allows to enlarge the terraces. The program also offers a panoramic lounge on the top floor and two shared spaces fully open at the 10th floor and on the rooftop terrace, provided with a sports field. At ground floor, the restaurant offers a double opening on the expanded Benito Juarez square and on the residential park hosting the tower, which was created in place of abandoned industrial premises.

Rénovation d’un centre commercial et culturel dans les quartiers Nord de Marseille Le Centre Urbain du Merlan est un gigantesque complexe ouvert en 1976 regroupant dans une même structure hypermarché, galerie commerciale, théâtre national, bibliothèque, commissariat, burau municipal, parkings souterrains. Il est un lieu de vie sociale et économique essentiel au quartier mais son architecture et l’agencement de ses programmes apparaissent en décalage avec les pratiques urbaines modernes. Ce projet de rénovation vise à donner au Centre les qualités d’un noyau urbain pleinement intégré à son territoire. Cela passe par une fragmentation de la megastructure en plusieurs entités permettant de distinguer et reproportionner les programmes, par la création d’un parc autour du bâtiment, par la piétonnisation et la pacification des voies de circulation alentours... Le théâtre est agrandie et reçoit une nouvelle salle, aux normes internationales. Une halle de marché de 4000 m² est aussi créée, favorisant le circuit-court et définissant la nouvelle identité visuelle du centre.

Refurbishment of a commercial and cultural center in the northern districts of Marseille The Centre Urbain du Merlan is a gigantic complex opened in 1976 and grouping together in a same structure a hypermarket, a commercial gallery, a national theater, a library, a police station, a municipal office, underground car parks. It is an essential place of social and economic life in the district but its architecture and the layout of its programs appear to be out of step with modern urban practices. This renovation project aims to give the Center the qualities of an urban core fully integrated into its territory. It involves a fragmentation of the megastructure into several entities to distinguish and reproportion the programs, the creation of a park around the building, the pedestrianization and pacification of the surrounding traffic lanes ... The theater is enlarged and receives a new hall, with international standards. A market hall of 4000 m² is also created, encouraging short food supply chains and defining the new visual identity of the center.

Requalification d’un site industriel rural en pôle culturel et d’experimentation en HauteLoire. A travers l’analyse historique, géographique, sociologique d’un territoire isolé, le projet se penche sur les dynamiques et les enjeux contemporains de l’espace rural. Projet manifeste, il explore les questions de la résidence, du travail, de la culture, des déplacements et plus largement celle de l’intégration aux flux et aux aires d’influence, notamment la métropole. Le projet de relance territoriale s’articule autour de trois interventions : La réhabilitation des papeteries Lumière en ateliers polyvalents ouverts aux habitants et aux étudiants des grandes écoles de la région. La restructuration du parc résidentiel de loisir pour répondre aux risques naturels du site et introduire de nouvelle qualités spatiales, paysagères et environnementales via des modules d’habitation autonomes. Enfin la redéfinition de la base de loisir locale, autour des berges du fleuve aménagées et rendues accessibles aux piétons.

Requalification of a rural industrial site as a cultural and experimentation hub in HauteLoire, France. Through the historical, geographical and sociological analysis of an isolated territory, the project examines the dynamics and contemporary challenges of the rural area. As a manifesto, the project explores the issues of residence, work, culture, mobilities and, more broadly, integration into flows and areas of influence, particularly in the metropolis. The territorial revitalization is structured around three interventions. The rehabilitation of the Lumière paper mills into multi-purpose workshops open to the inhabitants and students of the region’s universities. The restructuring of the leisure residential park to respond to the natural risks of the site and introduce new spatial, landscape and environmental qualities via autonomous housing modules. Finally, the redefinition of the local leisure base along the river banks, which have been redesigned and made accessible to pedestrians.
