LANNAM ROAD
BRIEF Hilbert is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia and is located at the city’s fringe of Armadale. The composition of this suburb comprises of residential zones situated at the north while the farming estates are situated at the southern segment of Hilbert. The divider between these two contrasting zones is defined by Lannam Road, which also serves as a connection link between Eleventh Road and Ninth Road. Since 2010, the land began to be subdivided by Armadale city council for urban purposes due to the town’s growing population and the accending demand of property investors. According to the 2011 census report, this 120 years old semi-rural suburb presently hold 400-450 residents and this figure is set to increase in the forseeable future. Summarily, the suburb of Hilbert will continue to expand, so as to meet the growing population. Current urban infrastructures such as Lannam Road which is identified as one of the main crossroad will be expected to sustain the heavy carbon footprints in the long run.
OBJECTIVE The main objective of this street analysis report is to study how Lannam Road can serve the greater public efficiently through careful and thoughtful consideration before the execution stage of design.

NORTH DESCRIPTION Lannam Road serves as an prominent delineation that peacefully seperates the residential zone and the southern farming estates of Hilbert. Additionally, it is also a connection link between 2 main roads, Eleventh Road and Nineth Road. As for public transportation, the nearest bus-stop for the suburb of Hilbert is located infront of Armadale City Community Centre, approximately 800 metres away from Hilbert’s residential zone. This distance fall short of 400 metres of what the Australia department of Transport has in their urban planning regulation. With this study evidence, a bus-stop and re-diversion of bus routes will be proposed within a 400 metres radius to include Hilbert in the transportation loop. This will be further developed in the design stage later on.

LANNAM ROAD DEEP SANDY SOILS SOILS W/ SHALLOW WATER TABLES GRAVELLY SOILS
NORTH DESCRIPTION DEEP SANDY SOILS - Poportionate mixture between sand and soil with a depth of more than 80cm is considered under this category. Profile averaged shear wave velocities undertaken within this site class ranged from 129 m/s to 539 m/s, with an average profile value of 300 m/s SOIL WITH SHALLOW WATER TABLES - Soils which are wet in some part of the profile for a major part of the year. Approximately 80% of the soil-dominated site class is represented by a mud profile of 10–30 m thick, while the remaining of the 20% is represented by a shallow water profile (10–30 m depth) GRAVELLY SOILS - Soils dominated by ironstone gravels.

LANNAM ROAD LAND CONTOUR WATER CONTOUR BEARD VEG TYPE 968
NORTH DESCRIPTION According to the Australia Department of Environment & Conservation, the condition of the native vegetation is likely to vary throughout the South-East sub-region Western Australia (WA) with the overall vegetation condition expected from average to good condition. Some of the key native flora under the category of the ‘Beard Vegetation Type 968’ includes: - Eucalyptus gomphocephala - Eucalyptus marginata - Melaleuca quinquenervia - Agonis flexuosa -Casuarina In present context, newly planted softscapes proposed by the awarded landscape architect such as the ‘Casuarina’ can be found along the streets of Lannam Road.

NATIVE VEGETATION
Eucalyptus gomphocephala Native to the southwest of Western Australia the tree grows to over 35m tall. As a durable hardwood the timber is sought after for scantlings, structural timber, the construction of railway carriages, and boat building. The colouring and grain pattern of the timber also makes it a popular choice for furniture manufactures. Due to over logging the Tuart is a protected tree with conditions placed on logging.
Eucalyptus marginata Native tree which sometimes grows to a height of 40m high with a trunk up to 3m in diameter. Older specimens have a lignotuber and have roots that extend down as far as 40 m. It is a stringybark with rough, greyish-brown, vertically grooved, fibrous bark which sheds in long flat strips. Also, an important element to its ecology, providing numerous habitats for animal life.
Melaleuca quinquenervia Melaleuca quinquenervia is a small to medium sized, spreading tree which usually grows to a height of 8–15m high and a spread of 5–10m but is sometimes as tall 25m. The stamens are white, cream-coloured or greenish and are arranged in 5 bundles around the flower, with 5 to 10 stamens per bundle. Flowering occurs from spring to early autumn, September to March in Australia.
Agonis flexuosa Agonis flexuosa occurs mainly as a small and robust tree, usually less than 10 metres tall, although it may grow to 15m. It has fibrous brown bark, long narrow dull-green leaves, and tightly clustered inflorescences of small white flowers in the axes. It grows in a weeping habit, and looks remarkably like the weeping willow from a distance. Leaves are narrow and reach a length of 150mm. It is most readily identified by the powerful odour of peppermint emitted when the leaves are crushed.

NORTH DESCRIPTION The different tones of green as highlighted in this study map potrays the density of greenery in the suburb of Hilbert and it’s vicinity of 1600 metre radius. The consideration of the existing trees, which are highlighted in blue revealed opportunites that Lannam Road particpate. For one, it could also complete an ecological bridge that links up the south-eastern woodlands to the suburb of brookdale which already has many established trees scattered among the residential zones. Birds with immigration instinct can take refuge or travel along Lannam Road to get to the greater suburb of Armadale. This proposal will be further discussed in the design stage.
