COAT TREE Description: As a gift for my girlfriend, I designed the coat tree to be freestanding, self-bracing and use a minimum of metal parts. Anticipating a move later in the year, the coat tree has no glued joints so it can be dissassembled. Wood Species + Materials: Western Red Cedar, Brass Hardware, Finish: Danish Oil. Methods / Processes: Mechanical (Bolt) Assembly. Tools used: Planer, Joiner, Tablesaw, Bandsaw, Drill Press, Belt-Sander.

AMPLIFIER Description: The amplifier, modeled on an old Fender(R) prototype, was designed and built by a friend. I created the box to contain it. Wood Species + Materials: Walnut, splines White Ash Finish: Linseed Oil.Painted steel grills held in grooves. Methods / Processes: Spline-jig, mitres joined using splines, Glued using nylon cloth tension straps. Tools used: Planer, Joiner, Tablesaw, BeltSander, Hand-sanding blocks.

WALL BOX Description: Originally intended as a small cabinet for precious objects I decided I liked the open shelves bettern than with a hinged cover. The shelves are sized to hold now obsolete media such as CDs and DVDs, but can also be used to display small trinkets. Wood Species + Materials: Flame Maple (box) + Cherry (shelf), Walnut (splines), Plywood back + Z-clip. Finish: Linseed Oil, (hardwood box), Acrylic Paint (plywood backing). Methods / Processes: Dovetail center shelf, Dado grooves for Plywood backing inset, Spline-jig, mitres joined using splines, Glued using nylon cloth tension straps. Tools used: Planer, Joiner, Tablesaw, Router, Sanders.

CUTTING BOARD Description: I had some scrap materials lying around, so I decided to glue them together and make a decorative cutting board. Wood Species + Materials: Mahogany, Purple Heart, Walnut, White Ash. Finish: Mineral Oil. Methods / Processes: Simple edge-joined glue-up. Pass through drum sander to finish sides Tools used: Planer, Joiner, Table-saw, Radial Arm Saw, Pipe-clamps, Drum Sander.

NIGHT-LIGHT Description: This wall hanging lamp was my first wood working project, created using only hand tools. Wood Species + Materials: Mahogany, Acrylic w/ color pigments. Finish: Linseed Oil. Methods / Processes: Hand carving, acrylic setting, wiring. Tools used: Chisels, Rasps, Sandpaper, Hand drill.

BOOK-SHELF Description: This bookshelf was built by my girlfriend and myself to house oversize books and display a few key items as a feature peice in our new apartment. Wood Species + Materials: Edge-glued Knotty White Pine Copper pipe. Finish: White Lacquer. Methods / Processes: Designed with Sketchup(R) to study how to optimize use of readily available, standard parts from a home-improvement supplier. Tools used: Hand-Drill, Palm Sander, Pipe-cutter.

LUNAR LAMP Description: This wall-mounted lamp rotates to display the phases of the moon on each of its 4 faces. Wood Species + Materials: Maple, Black Walnut (splines), Plywood (top + bottom). Paper Film inserts. Finish: Danish Oil Methods / Processes: Dadoed grooves locate and hold plywood top + bottom in place, Assembled using tension cables. Tools used:

Planer, Joiner, Tablesaw, Drum Sander, Spline-jig, Scroll Saw, Sanders.

COFFEE TABLE Description: Small, 3-legged table. Wood Species + Materials: Flame Maple, Oak, Black Walnut Poplar (cones) Finish: Linseed oil, Acrylic Paint (cones) Methods / Processes: The cones were assembled using a barrel staving process. To make the cones, each 8-piece leg required a custom jig to cut the compound mitres for glue-up. They were then turned on a wood lathe. To make the top, oak boards were first edge glued. Later, cuts were made and accent woods glued in place. Tools used:

Planer, Joiner, Band-saw, Tablesaw, Pipe clamps, Wood Lathe, Drill Press, Drum Sander, Spindle Sander, Palm Sander. p. 18

CABINET CAROUSEL Description: This whimiscal contraption was an excuse to practice a technique known as bent-wood lamination. Suspended from a wall the apparatus can be spun to allow a user to access the contents of each of the 4 boxes. Wood Species + Materials: Boxes are Maple with Walnut splines and Plywood bottoms. The sinecurve forms are Walnut and White Ash. The paraboloids are made of Walnut, excepting the center which is made of Birch Plywood. Painted Steel Bracket, Machine ball bearings. Finish: Danish Oil. Methods / Processes: Jig manufacture, resawing, bending and glue-up plies of alternating wood species. Rotary mechanisms cut on wood lathe.
