Debian 8 jessie Debian 8.7 fue lanzado recientemente el 14 de enero del 2017. Originalmente Debian 8.0 fue lanzado el 26 de abril 2015. Después de 24 meses de constante desarrollo el equipo de Debian Project presenta su nueva versión estable (jessie), el cual tendrá soporte por los siguientes 5 años gracias al trabajo combinado entre Debian Security Team y Debian Long Term Support Team. Sistemas Operativos Padre Jessie proviene de la distribución Wheezy o Debian 7, el cual proviene de la distribución lanzada en febrero 2016 llamada Squeezy o Debian 6. Características “Jessie” viene con un nuevo sistema init , “Systemd”. Systemd trae buenas características tales como arranques del sistema más rápidos, cgroups para servicios y la posibilidad de aislar parte de los servicios. Sin embargo el sistema init “sysvinit” aún está disponible en “Jessie”. El UEFI (“Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) soporte introducido en “Wheezy” también ha sido mejorado, esto incluye soluciones para muchos errores de firmware conocidos, soporte para UEFI en sistemas de 32-bit y soporte para kernels de 64-bit con firmware 32-bit UEFI.
