concept

Centred around an angled seat, the client can choose from a variety of interchangeable attachments to create modular seating arrangements that suit their interior space. By placing backrests on either side of the 165Ëš angle, the seat either directs people towards each other, or away, facilitating collaborative and solitary work.

8

. cumulus sofa .

Cumulus uses voluminous shapes derived from pebbles, clouds and hills to bring a softness to office environments. The seating area is split by a dividing seam, highlighted by a contrast double top stitch. This visual boundary defines personal territories that help users feel comfortable within their own space.

disassembly

Cumulus’ backrests, table and base are fabricated from mild steel and powder coated. By using simple button clips, the backrests swap across either side and end of the angle, and the tables attach onto any of the poles or legs.

The system has a standard base, off which there are six points for optional extensions.

cubby storage Are people too dependent on objects? Cubby is an interactive storage system to display precious objects. Designed to tackle issues of consumerism, Cubby breaks the bond between humans and objects by removing them from reach.

opie pendant How can light show off oak’s natural grain? Designed during a live project with Heal’s, Opie is a statement piece for domestic spaces. Manufactured from a combination of smoked and natural oak, Opie’s angled slats cover the bulb while creating striking reflections on the wood’s grain.

layering with light

Three heights of oak create the illusion of Opie’s slats being suspended. With a simple interlocking system, the slats are safely fixed to two concentric rings. The weight is held perfectly by six black wire rods. Smoked and natural oak gives warm textures for the light to reflect off.

1 product.

As a group of recent design graduates, we wanted to push the limits of commercial creativity. We went from initial brief to finished product within two days. All ideation, design and CAD was done on Day 1, leaving manufacture and photography for Day 2.

. artist’s storage .

artist’s storage How can a classic design be modernised? A portable storage unit following the values of the original Isokon Penguin Donkey, the Artist’s Storage holds supplies for painters. The removable top section allows the artist to take materials all around their studio, as well as the height being perfect to work standing or sitting.

The holes allow the user to pick up the top section and move around the studio. The top section locates with small feet. Lips on the shelves also prevent brushes falling out. It is manufactured from 9mm and 12mm birch plywood, jointed with dominos and finishes with Osmo Oil.

. wire chairs .

wire chairs How can an existing chair be adapted for a new market? Whilst working for Spiral Product Design, I redesigned their existing wire frame chair which they manufacture for CB2, USA, but for Freedom Furniture, Australia. I created a set of new wire weaves and patterns, along with altering the framework so they stack.

A project with

new designers 2019 As part of my role as Co-Ordinator for NTU Design Industries 2019, I designed the stand for New Designers, an annual exhibition in the Business Design Centre, Islington. Responsibilities included product layout, colour and artistic direction, plinth manufacture, postcard design and vinyl ordering. I also oversaw the team of students setting up and executing the vision of the exhibition.
