Teacher of Secondary Mathematics The British School of Guangzhou Guangzhou, China THE ROLE: As a key member of the Secondary Mathematics Department at The British School of Guangzhou, The teacher of secondary Mathematics will be accountable for the delivery of this subject across the Secondary School. Reporting to the Head of Secondary Mathematics, the successful applicant will be an effective professional with a thorough knowledge of the curriculum. Experience of teaching at A-level or further mathematics is essential. In addition, the school particularly welcomes applications from those that embed AfL strategies within their teaching and that are able to show evidence of how they nurture engagement and enquiry within learners. The Mathematics teacher will also be expected to follow assessment procedures of the subject area and take individual responsibility for their professional development needs. The successful candidate would be instrumental in maintaining or improving the excellent levels of student attainment within mathematics. THE PERSON: Will need to have obtained either QTS or PGCE and a good Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, or a closely related discipline. In additon, they will have at least 2 years’ experience of teaching in the UK or of delivering the UK Curriculum. The Mathematics teacher will have excellent interpersonal skills and a high level of personal organisation. Some key tasks and responsibilities of the post will include:
Monitoring and intervening to ensure student progress is high in line with High performance learning. Ensuring that their teaching and learning encourages engagement and enquiry. Ensuring that they monitor, assess, record and report on student learning in line with school expectations Refining and developing schemes of work that enhance student learning. Performing the role as a tutor in conjunction with a form mentor for a specific form group. Contributing to the wider school community by offering appropriate after school clubs and extra curricular activities that add to our student’s educational experience. To complete other professional requirements in line with the Job Description of subject teacher. Use up to date technology, specifically Ipad and Macs to enhance our students’ independent learning skills.
