We are the Birds! Hello, we are the Birds! This year we have a lovely group of eight children, all of whom love to fly! Our class of Birds are learning their English through listening and writing, through storytelling and songs, and – perhaps most importantly at this age - through conversation and play. We started off our week with introductions and lessons in “Who am I?” in which we practised the words used to describe ourselves. What colour is our hair? What colour eyes do we have?
Of course, it is always fun to talk about our noses, mouth, teeth, hands, legs and toes! After a cut and paste activity we played some terrific games to practise our words, and even drew a full-sized body to mark the body parts we have learned about!
We are the Birds! We continued learning about the colours of the rainbow and how to mix red, yellow and blue. What is your favourite colour? How can you mix it? We painted our own rainbows and labelled the colours ourselves. We practiced our words again through games such as find the colour and ‘red, yellow, green’.
On Wednesday we also learned about pets, what different kinds of pets are there, and what do they look like? We made our own clay pets (there were quite a few pet unicorns!) and decorated them with the colours we have learned. What other kinds of animals do we know from stories? How about “The Three Little Pigs”? We listened to the story and role-played the parts. What kind of house do you live in? Is it brick, or wood, or straw? Is it strong? Which colour is it? How do you go inside? Do you have a garden? With these questions we spent Thursday learning about our own homes. We talked about how our homes were the same as the Three Little Pigs and how they were different.
With paper cut-outs, we then created our own homes to show each other.
Do we all have kitchens in our houses? What do we do in our kitchens? On Friday, we talked about our favourite food. Our birds love to eat fruits, all different colours: yellow bananas, red strawberries, green kiwis. What else do we like to eat? We sang songs about the yummiest and yuckiest food (“Do you like broccoli ice-cream? Yucky!”) and created a meal from magazine cut-outs.
Group 2
Fish Welcome to the Fish Group! This week, we have been learning English through the topic of Under the Sea. We have been learning about lots of sea creatures and we have been practising our English vocabulary. Look at how many animals we managed to match to their English names!
Look at how many animals we matched to their English names!
We have enjoyed listening to different stories in English which are set under the sea. We have been particularly interested in clownfish and Finding Nemo, and we have followed English instructions step by step to create our own handprint paintings of clownfish!
Look how proud we are of our art!
Group 2
Fish We have had so much fun getting to know one another and practising our English language skills. We have been enjoying playing outdoors in the sunshine with new friends. We have been exploring the forest garden and using the materials creatively to build structures including houses, see-saws and bridges. We have also enjoyed learning new games and we have been very successful at understanding and following the rules of games in English. It has been great to hear the children communicating with one another in English! Well done Fish.
Trees (Group 3) In English class with Ms Cherish and Mr Maciej they played icebreaker games and learned about new vocabulary, colours, numbers, shapes, countries, cultures, origami, modes of transportation, and cooking skills.
We had a fantastic week and we are very excited to start week 2 of summer school!

We planted some cress seeds and labelled our pots. Let’s hope that in a few days we see some little green shoots. Every morning we check them. Growing plants means lots of waiting but I think we can manage it!

Group 5 Space Wow! What an action packed week SPACE group has had. All lessons were based on the book DINOSAURS and all that RUBBISH.
Children listened to the story then ordered photos and text in the correct order. They then illustrated the story during a drawing dictation, which they were able to retell to their partner and together as a class. Very impressive!
They studied the language in the text then recreated their own version of the story by adding descriptive language and powerful verbs. Ultimately, the children collaborated with others in their group to write, dramatise and narrate their stories, using IMovie. All of this, in between enjoying fun language games and quizzes.

Group 8 (Water) This week we have been learning all about water; why it’s important, problems we have surrounding water and what we can do to save it. Our week started with an alphabet challenge. We found some very creative ways to represent all 26 letters!
Group 8 - Water
We also wrote some acrostic poems using our water vocabulary and ended the week on a project making posters about water and the environment.
Group 9 — Town Welcome to Town! We had a great week together.
In our English lessons, we thought about the world around us and had to use all of our senses to find things around Summer School for our Scavenger Hunt quiz.
We also practised a little bit of grammar and created our own exciting Create-YourAdventure story book. We worked together for this, to write exciting and surprising story pages with beautiful illustrations.
Group 9 — Town We also did lots of different activities, such as art, drawing, films, music and sport...
In the breaks, we played with the new friends we have made. Group 9 had a fantastic time, learning and having fun together!
We are City, welcome to our class! It is a pleasure to introduce ourselves to you. This year we are a class of six girls, no boys allowed;) We are from all over the world. We have done far too much to mention on just two pages, but these pictures show just how much fun we had and should give you an idea of the work we produced! It was a fantastic week, and we have been incredibly focused on different stories and projects. The picture with the train is from our work on storyboards. This story is about time travelling, and if you look closely you’ll be able to tell where we are going!

Felt Crafting with Marian and Amy Our older students worked with silk fibres over two lessons. They split the fibres, arranged them in a grid pattern, added water and glue and turned this‌‌.
‌.into silk paper!
...and then into tea light holders
Felt Crafting with Marian and Amy We also used felting soap and water to turn wool into felt friendship bracelets. The children were interested to see the change in the fibres from soft wool to unbreakable felt.
Felt Crafting with Marian and Amy With our youngest students, we had fun using wool to make multi-coloured sheep.
As you can see, some varieties of sheep are woollier than others!
Realism Drawing with Katie
This week we’ve been learning to draw eyes and lips. We worked really hard and surprised ourselves with the finished results!
Fine Arts with Tina We had a lot of fun this week using bright colors to create beautiful landscapes. Everyone enjoyed the effect of wet-on-wet watercolor.
We also used chalk pastels to create a beautiful sky effect for our 3D cityscapes.
Painting with Danielle!
This year in Painting with Danielle, we have been exploring different painting techniques. Some of the artists we explored were Fernando Botero (still life), Mondrian (DeStijl) and Georges Seurat (Pointillism). The children enjoyed exploring their creativity and imagination creating an original artist inspired technique.

Dance with Asena The Dance Activity kept everyone mobile and creative.
We have learnt: How to create simple dance moves. How to create our own choreography.
Art with Stephie This week we have created a Monet inspired art piece, painting an outdoor scene using cotton buds instead of paint brushes!
We have also created our own gardens by making flower petal stamps with paint!
Music Ms Cherish Our students had a great time in music class! They learned about classical, popular and world music as well as how to analyze songs. Students got to experiment with instruments around the world such as the djembe, rainstick and guiro. Many students demonstrated their incredible talent on the piano, drums and guitar.
