Job Description: Learning Support Assistant with specific skills and knowledge in how to apply Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA*) techniques. *Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) is an evidence-based therapy that focuses on improving specific behaviours, such as social skills, communication, reading and academics as well as adaptive learning skills such as fine motor, dexterity, hygiene, grooming, domestic capabilities, punctuality and job competence. ABA helps children and adults with Autism adopt beneficial behaviours and skills.
Duties & Responsibilities •
Key Duties & Responsibilities o Fulfilling the role of Learning Support Assistant for a student with Autism Spectrum Disorder applying Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) techniques to manage behaviour, optimise learning, increase independence and maximise focus in the classroom. o Providing individualised ABA therapy services within a classroom environment directed toward the development and/or enhancement of skills necessary for emotional, cognitive, behavioral, language, and interpersonal growth of the child. o Actively assisting the classteacher in finding effective reinforcement for the student and assisting in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on individual needs, interests and abilities. o Using a variety of teaching techniques such as: reinforcing, modeling, questioning, observing, demonstrating and prompting. o Utilising and applying Applied Behavior Analysis principles (in conjunction with other approaches suitable), communication and reinforcement methods correctly and consistently. o Keeping updated in the latest ABA research, terminology and behavioral approaches. o Working closely with other professionals including the Speech therapist, Occupational therapist and assigned Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to find the best individualised approaches for the student. o Collecting behavioral and skill acquisition data, as per the ABA data collection protocols designed by the BCBA. o Implementing Behavior Support Plans (BPS). o Applying multidisciplinary learnings/techniques in the school environment eg sensory diet. o Conducting ABA therapy incorporating Discrete Trial Teaching (DTT) and Natural Environment Teaching (NET) to pre-teach academic and social skills required in the classroom. o Reviewing and actioning recommendations of the student’s BCBA monthly online supervision sessions receiving feedback from the BCBA on the student’s programs, behaviours and development. o Working with the classteacher, parents, BCBA, speech therapist and occupational therapist to progress and monitor the student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP). o Differentiating the curriculum based on the student’s individual needs. o Supporting free play / structured play and contriving role play scenarios to encourage social interaction with peers. o Implementing social skill training. o Providing a variety of experiences and materials to stimulate. o Liaising with the parents and classteacher of any concerns or specific information pertaining to the child. o Maintaining a high-level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information at all times. o Providing training, suggestions and guidance for classteacher and parents, as appropriate

Administrative o Accurately completing all required data collection and documentation in detailed, accurate, consistent and timely manner (where requested by classteacher and/or BCBA). o Participating in meetings to discuss treatment plans with multi-disciplinary team and parents. o Contributing to the professional communication of student’s progress to parents.

Outreach
o Contributing to all communication with the classteacher / parents / therapists, which will be coordinated by the Lead AEN teacher. o Liaising with the parents, to ensure they have input in all the development of educational and clinical programmes. •
Physical o Administering protective holds, movement and carries as appropriate o Applying physical interventions in response to aggressive behavior (if necessary).

Qualifications & Experience o Holds a Bachelor/Masters degree in a relevant discipline e.g. Psychology. o Has at least 3-5 years of experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. o Communicates clearly and effectively with teachers and multi-disciplinary colleagues. o Sets a good example in terms of conduct, punctuality and attendance. o Creates a supportive and cohesive environment. o Always behaves respectfully and sensitively to cultural and religious norms and values. o Communicates in a professional and respectful manner with teachers, parents and therapists. o Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships within a multidisciplinary team.
