2nd Exam Week Your official bulletin for all the latest resi news and events info!

Wishing you well! The Resi Office would like to wish all of you well for Tri 1, 2014! We hope you have all enjoyed living at the Burwood Residences this trimester.

To those who are leaving Australia, we hope you have some great memories to take back with you. Best wishes for the future!

For those of you staying over the break, the Resi Office will operate as normal.

For those coming back after the break, we look forward to another great trimester at the Burwood Residences!

Checking out and keeping tidy If you are checking out on the 23rd June, it is essential you leave your room in a clean, neat and tidy state and hand back your access card/keys to reception. Financial penalties will apply if your room is left unclean or you do not hand your key in.

Resi Cold Rock The last Resi Cold Rock session is on tonight (Wednesday 18th), 7.30pm in the MB rec room. Bring your bowl and spoon to enjoy a yummy study break!

Donating Goods Are you moving off res and have unwanted clothing and food? Don't throw it away, help make someone else's day! You may drop off unwanted items (specified below) to the Resi Reception. These items will then be distributed to a local charity.

UNWANTED CLOTHING & BEDDING / LINEN To assist us please ensure the clothes/linen are clean and in a plastic bag or a box.

UNWANTED FOOD Unopened non-perishable food that has not gone past the expiry date (eg: cans of food or unopened packets) that you do not want to take with you when you leave.

WE DON’T WANT JUNK!...... Any larger old, broken, out of date stuff can be placed in the MB rubbish room. Just ask resi reception for assistance. 2


Please consider other ressies Even if you have finished your exams, please be considerate to others who have not. The party/guest/noise-free period still applies until 4pm this Friday 20th June. Breaches of the party, guest & noise-free policy will NOT be tolerated during the study/exam period and a $100 charge will apply.

Breaches include: 

guests (registered or not)

noisy gatherings

noise when coming home late

using BSV basketball court (except between 2-4pm)

The successful completion of the trimester is dependent on all residents showing consideration and respect for each other. Your cooperation is sought to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to do well in their exams.

Free Giveaway! Congratulations to last week’s winner, Jade Williams, who picked up a free Hoyts movie pass. Jade was the first to show reception two photos of the designated smoking areas on res (the netball ring at BSV and the smoker’s decking at MB).

Recipe of the Week Microwave tomato, ricotta and spinach risotto Ingredients (serves 4) 

3 1/4 cups boiling water

2 x 10.5g vegetable stock cubes, crumbled

2 tablespoons tomato paste

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 small brown onion, finely chopped

1 garlic clove, crushed

2 cups arborio rice

400g can crushed tomatoes

200g fresh ricotta cheese, crumbled

50g baby spinach

2/3 cup shredded fresh basil leaves

Small basil leaves, to serve

Method 1. Place boiling water in a heatproof jug. Crumble over stock cubes. Stir to dissolve. Add tomato paste. Stir to combine. Cover to keep warm. 2. Combine oil, onion and garlic in a 2 litre-capacity, microwave-safe dish (with lid). Microwave on high (100%) for 2 minutes or until onion has softened. Microwave on high (100%) for 1 minute or until wine is hot. 3. Add rice. Stir to combine. Microwave on high (100%) for 1 minute. Add 21/2 cups stock mixture. Stir to combine. Microwave, covered, on high (100%) for 10 minutes or until liquid has reduced by half.

4. Add tomato and remaining stock mixture. Stir to combine. Microwave, covered, on medium (50%) for 5 minutes. Stir. Microwave, covered, on medium (50%) for 4 minutes or until almost all liquid has absorbed. 5. Stir in half the ricotta. Add spinach and shredded basil. Stir until spinach has just wilted. Season with salt and pepper. Serve topped with basil leaves and remaining ricotta.
