Being Secure on Res If a door is left open, chocked open or left unlocked then property and people are at risk. There is only one way to prevent this and that is to LOCK UP. Please take careful note of the following friendly, but important reminders about staying safe on res!: 

Ensure your unit is fully secure — please do not chock ANY doors open.

Lock up your bedroom when you are not using it.

Walk briskly and confidently to and from campus.

Avoid places where there are few people. Stick to well-lit pathways and avoid dimly-lit parts of campus.

If you are walking at night, never walk alone. Instead, walk with a group or call Deakin Security for an escort.

If you are staying back late at campus, ensure that you inform your family or friends of where you are and when you can be expected home.

Never be afraid to call Deakin Security to escort you to your car. Store the Deakin Security number in your mobile phone or download the SafeZone app. http://www.safezoneapp.com/ Don’t hesitate to report an incident to security, police or both depending on the nature of the incident and where it happened.

Deakin Security Officers are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to ensure the safety of all Deakin students. Deakin Security is a free service and if ever you feel you need them, please don’t hesitate to ring 222 (from an internal phone) or 1800062579 (any other phone) or via Safezone

Resi Movie Night Get your unit or level together and make a video! Submit your movie to Ryan and Louis from BEARS by Sunday 7th September. Then on Mon 8th September at 8pm in the rec room, come along to watch everyone’s videos! The winning movie will receive a $100 Safeway letter for a function.

R U OK Day R U OK Day is a national day of action on Thursday September 11 to remind us all of the importance of asking our mates, colleagues and family "are you ok?"

If your gut says something’s not quite right with someone, chances are that they might need a bit of extra support from the people around them.

They might be acting a bit differently, seem to have a lot on their plate, or simply aren’t themselves. Don’t ignore those signs but instead take some time to start a conversation and ask….“R U OK?” 3
