Annual Report 2018 / 2019

Blessed Trinity Catholic High School

Blessed Trinity Catholic High School exists to provide a nurturing educational environment that transforms lives in Christ, integrating spiritual formation, academic excellence, artistic sensibility, and athletic achievement.

From the President Dear Blessed Trinity Families and Friends, I want to sincerely thank you for supporting Blessed Trinity Catholic High School. It is because of your generosity that we were able to once again upgrade our facilities over the summer. It is a priority that we keep our buildings and campus operating safely and efficiently, and your financial support allows us to do that. Furthermore, your donations to our Annual Fund enable us to continue to improve our program offerings to better serve our students’ needs. The major renovation of our main and auxiliary gymnasiums over the summer will provide a better experience and a safer environment for our students, families, and guests during all-school Masses, sporting events, guest speaker presentations, physical education classes, summer camps, and graduation. This major project was greatly enhanced by the financial contributions of our donors. The addition of a very large crucifix in the stadium will remind everyone who attends an event there that Blessed Trinity is first and foremost a Catholic school. This was made possible by a very substantial donation from the parents of a Blessed Trinity alumnus. These are just a few examples of what your generous financial contributions are doing for our school and ultimately for our students. We are constantly striving to provide our students with the best Catholic education we are capable of offering. We continue to emphasize our Catholic identity, our academic rigor and support, and our extensive program offerings in both the fine arts and athletics, while continuing to promote service-learning and providing an outstanding guidance program. Blessed Trinity has grown significantly over the past 19 years in terms of enrollment, Catholic identity, academic offerings, college scholarship dollars earned, Fine Arts performances, and athletic championships. Much of our growth is due to the generosity of parents of alumni, alumni, and current parents. Nevertheless, there are still significant needs that must be addressed in the next few years as our school is now 20 years old. As we launch our Trinity Fund this year with new giving levels and association memberships included, I invite you to please read through this report and recognize how so many people have contributed financially to help make Blessed Trinity Catholic High School one of the best Catholic high schools in the country. Also, I ask that you please prayerfully consider a tax-deductible donation to the Trinity Fund. Unfortunately, tuition dollars do not cover the total cost to educate a child. The Trinity Fund is truly necessary to make every child’s educational experience significantly better in the present and in the future. I pray that you will strongly consider contributing to the Trinity Fund this year. May God bless you for your support of Blessed Trinity Catholic High School. Sincerely yours in Christ,

Mr. Brian Marks President

Annual Fund Dollars at Work... Gym Renovation

Video Scoreboard

Crucifix Banner

The new video scoreboard enhances every event in the gym. Hymn lyrics are shown during Mass to encourage more student participation, team rosters are shown to recognize our student athletes during competition, and ads are shown during events to help generate funds for Blessed Trinity.

Integrating Spiritual Formation is the first pillar of the Blessed Trinity Mission Statement. A banner now hangs on the wall in the gym with an image of the crucifix that overlooks our stadium. It is a reminder of why we are here and why we support Blessed Trinity.

Lights

Bleachers

LED lights were added in both the main and auxiliary gyms. The new lights provide better lighting for events at a reduced energy usage and cost than the old lights.

The old bleachers were installed when Blessed Trinity was built. Time had taken its toll on them and they would soon become a safety hazard. New bleachers provide peace of mind and add flair to the gym.

dollars are per student Blessed Trinity Catholic High School opened in 2000 in response to the overwhelming need for Catholic education. Costs associated with construction were partially funded by the issuance of bonds through the Fulton County Development Authority. Principal and interest payments on these bonds are paid by an annual assessment to all parishes throughout the Archdiocese. The funds received from this assessment are allocated to each school at the discretion of the Archdiocese and allow tuition to be subsidized. Blessed Trinity is grateful to the parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Atlanta for their investment in and support of Catholic Education!

Why I Give Jennifer Demarco New Class of 2007 I give to Blessed Trinity because this school has given me so much. BT is a family, and I want to help it grow. It helped me grow into the person I am today. In college, you find out the lasting impact this school and its teachers have on you. This school creates a family of people that you can always rely on. I remember the senior lock in. It was such a fun night that we all got to spend together. It allowed us to reflect on what we truly had at the school and allowed us to look forward to the future. However, no matter what, we always knew we had each other.

Ricky Turner Jr. Class of 2011 I give to Blessed Trinity in the hope that it will help the current and future students have the same experience I had and, hopefully, an even better high school experience than I had. I loved every minute of my time at BT. BT means a lot to me now as an alum just as it always has. The teachers and coaches I had at BT will be a huge reason for any success I am ever able to have in my lifetime because of the various principles and life lessons they taught me. Also, and more importantly, I met some lifelong friends at BT! Therefore, my Alma Mater will have a lasting impression on me because of the people I came across during my time there. I have many memorable moments prior to, during, and after my time as a BT student. Probably my most memorable moment as a BT student was attending the varsity boy’s basketball games my freshman year. They were some of the most fun and exciting sporting atmospheres I have ever been a part of!

Why I Give

Lauren Dudley Slay Class of 2006

I give to BT because of what BT gave to me. BT helped shape me into the person I am today. I gained knowledge, confidence, leadership, and pride during my time as a student at BT that I have carried with me into adulthood. BT made such an impression on me that I have returned as a coach on and off for the past 8+ years. Seeing BT grow has been amazing. Being part of the beginning years and playing a small role, while it has developed to what it is today is so special and something I cherish immensely. Of course it is swimming related: my favorite memory from BT was when Coach Coco fell in the pool at a swim meet, heels, skirt, fur vest and all, because of her excitement when I made my first individual state cut. That is true coach’s pride!

Thank you for your support on Giving Tuesday in 2018. It was the first year Blessed Trinity participated in #iGiveCatholic. We’re extremely grateful to the 254 donors, especially the 27 alumni donors who helped raise $58,665! Your generous support always makes a meaningful difference in our ability to live our mission through spiritual formation, academic excellence, artistic sensibility and athletic achievement. Your gift on Giving Tuesday helped us as we continue to ensure the safety of our students. All gifts made to Blessed Trinity Catholic High School on Giving Tuesday allowed us to further enhance the security of the Jessica Turner Memorial Field House for our students. That building is truly an extension of our main school building, as classes are held there every block. By donating to Blessed Trinity through iGiveCatholic.org, you made a positive impact on our school.

#iGiveCatholic 2019 Tuesday, December 3, 2019 Blessed Trinity will once again participate in #iGiveCatholic. We hope the generosity shown by our community in 2018 continues and grows in 2019.

Michael Felices Class of 2004

Upon speaking at Career Day and getting to reconnect with the campus, I truly was amazed at what improvements have been made to the facilities and offerings for students. It made a strong enough impression on me that I should be able to pass along some of the good fortune I’ve had back to the school which gave me the foundation for where I am today. As an alum, BT has a meaning to me of family. It never fails that coming back or connecting with those whom have graduated from BT have a bond. We always seem to find each other, and, as the years pass, this network grows and it’s becoming more common. I don’t know how many kids and families benefit from financial aid/work study, but I sure know I did. I was there in the early years of the school, empty halls and lockers, desolate classrooms, half-empty student parking lot! I honestly think people wouldn’t believe me unless you were there. Back to work study…I didn’t want to give up a block, so I came in during the summer. 4-5 days each week for a month! I spent my summer cleaning the kitchen and walk in coolers, pressure washing bleachers at the football stadium, fixing bathrooms, etc. Anything and everything building maintenance could get me to do…and you know what? I loved it! It was some great fun with a few other students (driving the Gator around), and the added benefit was we built some great relationships with faculty and staff. I believe the academics are just part of the equation. An unrelenting work ethic and ability to do anything no matter how hard or how much you hate it; these are the things that build character and get you through life.

Why We Give

Matt and Anamaria Batteh Class of 2007 & 2009

For Anamaria and me, giving back to Blessed Trinity is very important. We both had a terrific experience at the school, and we want to remain part of the community to help influence the next generation of Titans. Athletics were a big part of both of our experiences at BT, so being able to coach the Junior Titans basketball teams for a few years was an honor for me. All of the coaches at BT had a tremendous impact on my life, and coaching the Junior Titans teams allowed me to play a small role in the lives of the student athletes. For us, giving back ensures that we remain a part of the community and contribute to the growth of the school. As alumni, BT remains a close knit community of friends and family. Many of our closest friends are BT alumni, and we enjoy reminiscing about our time at BT and the growth that we have all had since graduation. The community that BT creates truly lasts, and we see that much more now that we have been out of school. We know that we have lifelong friends throughout the BT community.

Matt’s most memorable moment was winning the first ever baseball state championship. It remains one of his fondest memories that he will treasure forever. Anamaria’s best memories are from her time in dance, as well as those she made with friends through athletics.

Why I Give Will Check Class of 2013 By giving, I help today’s students gain the quality education and wonderful experience that I did. I want to contribute to Blessed Trinity’s journey towards the highest ranks of the country’s Catholic schools.

I am always proud to say that I am a BT alum. I will always reach back to the lessons I learned during my time at BT. I know that BT operates all areas of the school at the highest level and instills the same values in its students. I will always remember the feeling of walking out of the last exam of high school. In that moment, I felt like I could accomplish anything! BT gave me the confidence to take that attitude forward into the world.

Ellen Rick Class of 2012

I give to Blessed Trinity to make this the best environment possible for the current students. I know there were people giving when I was a student, and I could see the impact that made on me, so I want to be able to do the same for the students here now. BT means being a part of something bigger than myself. I have seen the impact that BT has made on the community around us, and I think that is something special. BT also means being part of a support system that lasts long after you graduate. Faculty and staff continue to support and connect with alumni in a way I would have never expected when I graduated. My most memorable moments as a BT student were in the volleyball gym, winning a state championship in 2010 and winning an Area Championship in 2011 with my sister and I playing on the same team. But I also remember little things like the gavel Mr. Henry always had on his desk, Coach Barden saying “Barden me” whenever walking past someone, Ms. Birth never being disappointed when yet another person forgot to bring snacks to family, or how everyone felt like their legacy at BT was more concrete when they made it into one of Fr. Tran’s homilies.

GRACE Scholars Program Blessed Trinity Catholic High School participates in the G.R.A.C.E. Scholars program, a state-approved Student Scholarship Organization (SSO) established by the Archdiocese of Atlanta. In 2008, Georgia passed legislation which allows Georgia residents to re-direct a portion of their state income taxes to a private school of their choice for use in providing financial aid to students coming from public schools. The students must qualify for the financial aid based on need. Last year, 186 participants in the G.R.A.C.E. program selected Blessed Trinity as the recipient of their funds. As a result, Blessed Trinity received approximately $358,036 and was able to provide financial aid to 100% of all new students who qualified. These students will continue to receive financial aid through G.R.A.C.E. for the next four years provided they continue to qualify. Because these funds came from G.R.A.C.E., it allowed regularly budgeted financial aid dollars to go farther in supporting the financial needs of the students coming from our Catholic feeder schools and other private schools. This past year, the funds approved by the state were exhausted on January 1. All of the BT participants were able to take advantage of the “Early Bird” registration provided by G.R.A.C.E. Applications are now being accepted online (www.gracescholars.org) for the 2020 tax year. We encourage everyone in the BT community to take advantage of this opportunity as soon as possible, and want to thank the following families who chose to participate in the G.R.A.C.E. Scholars program; we hope they will continue to choose G.R.A.C.E. as part of their tax planning strategy for years to come.

Ways To Give Each and every gift that is given to Blessed Trinity Catholic High School, regardless of the amount, holds an immeasurable level of importance to the school. All gifts are tax-deductible as allowed by law. Careful planning of your gift cannot only help to maximize the gift that you make to the school, but also your personal goals, as well. Legal and financial advisors can best help you determine the type of gift most advantageous and appropriate for you to make. There are several opportunities for faculty and staff, alumni, parents, and friends to financially support our school. TRINITY FUND - The Trinity Fund is the most important fundraising effort each school year. At Blessed Trinity, tuition revenues cover the basic operations of the school. Additional requested budget items can only be funded through a successful Trinity Fund campaign. Each year, there is a gap between revenues from tuition and the amount needed to fund the entire school budget. Our goal is to have 100% participation in the Trinity Fund from our faculty, staff and parent community, regardless of the amount you are able to contribute. Please help to increase our overall participation rate by making a contribution. AUCTION GALA - The Annual Auction Gala, held in April, is the single-largest fundraising event for the school. In order to have a successful Auction Gala, we need volunteers, donated items, sponsorships and attendees. To learn more on getting involved in the Auction, please contact the Office of Institutional Advancement. FINE ARTS ASSOCIATION - Different levels of membership are available for the BT Fine Arts Association. Each membership has its own set of benefits, including tickets and apparel. All proceeds help pay the expenses for the school’s arts program. ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION - Different levels of membership are available for the BT Athletic Association. Each membership has its own set of benefits, including tickets and apparel. All proceeds help pay the expenses of the school’s athletic program. FUNDRAISING PROGRAMS & EVENTS - The Office of Institutional Advancement raises additional funds for the school through partnering with select merchants, the BT Fine Arts Association, and the BT Athletic Association. SCHOLARSHIPS & ENDOWMENTS - The school has several endowed scholarships, awards, and funds. Only the interest of these gifts is awarded each year. With the principal’s approval, donors may contribute any amount to an existing endowment, or endow a scholarship of their own with a minimum gift of $25,000.

There are many different methods that donors may choose to fund their gift: Monetary - Your gifts provide immediate tax savings through deductions and provides the school with funds for current use. Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express are all accepted. Securities - Some donors choose to transfer stock to BT as their gift each year. Contact the Office of Institutional Advancement to make these arrangements. Matching Gifts - A matching gift is when an employer will match the charitable contribution made by an employee or the spouse of an employee. This can multiply your gift to the school by simply completing the appropriate form from your company. Check with your Human Resources Department about their matching gifts policies and procedures. Gifts in Kind - These non-cash gifts include items that the school needs and uses including, but not limited to, furniture, office supplies, or printing services. Planned Gifts - The most common planned gift is when a donor leaves a gift to the school as part of a will. Other planned gifts include life insurance, charitable remainder trusts, and annuity trusts. Establish a Scholarship or Endowment - The school has a number of endowed scholarships: Jessica Turner Memorial, Kevin Mann Memorial, Devon McKniff Memorial, 1st Lt. Scott Joseph Fleming Memorial, Elizabeth Huffner Memorial, St. Joseph Scholarship, Founder’s Scholarship and Louise B. Baker Memorial. Donors may endow a scholarship of their own for a minimum gift of $25,000.

If you would like to learn more about ways to give, please contact the Office of Institutional Advancement.
