We will feature all Sizes, Heights, Weights and AGES, yes, we will feature the Mature Model. We will feature YOU, this magazine is for YOU, the designers we feature will designer garments that fit YOU. This magazine is all about YOU, the non‐straight size model type. You can send us your hi res picture with a short bio and we can feature you in the magazine. We are looking for models to be on our Cover Page each month. You can email us your event and it will appear on our Event Page. This is our first issue, for us to conMnue we need to get many, many people to subscribe – the subscripMon is FREE, but we need you, the people, to forward this informaMon to everyone that you think might be interested in this magazine. Plus Size Modeling: An Introduction By: Rebecca Jennings Plus size modeling is a growing industry that is gaining popularity and acceptance throughout the world. Because plus size models and modeling has gained popularity in the last ten years, the opportunities have broadened considerable, but all modeling shoots for a plus size model are not the same. Plus size models will discover major differences between shoots, whether operating as a free agent or with representation and between different markets. When you decide you want to try plus size modeling, you need to consider whether you want or can get representation right away, or if you want to act as a free agent. Finding representation can get you into many doors, but in some cases, if you are just starting out, you may want to be a free agent and market yourself to build your portfolio and get experience. Finding representation can be challenging. You'll need some photos of yourself and you may need to try several agencies before you find the right one. Some agents want to see professional headshots, while others prefer a simple Polaroid. In many cases, they prefer to see your "raw material" and then they'll help you find and cultivate a desirable plus size model "look." If you find representation, you should remember that the agent is working for you but you still need to take an active interest in your own modeling career. You should know what kinds of jobs they are promoting you for and why you are or are not getting jobs. (cont’d next page)
Plus Size Modeling: An Introduction (con’td) As a free agent you may have more flexibility, but you'll need to carefully protect yourself and make sure you're booking legitimate, paying jobs. Regardless of your status, you should constantly seek feedback, and do your best not to take it personally. Consider yourself a product that will be effective selling a product, or not. You may need to alter your look, gain weight, tone up or change your hair to be more marketable. Make sure you remember on thing; you won't be right for every job no matter what you do. If you want to be a plus size model, you do need to consider that there are different kinds of plus size modeling and different markets for different sizes. Here is an interesting guide to some of the different markets and needs for plus size models. Plus Size Lingerie Modeling: Really good plus size lingerie models are hard to find. Not only are companies and agencies looking for well proportioned and sexy women from sizes 10 to 18, they are also looking for toned, curvy bodies that will really make their photos pop! In many cases, a plus size lingerie photo shoot will also be different than that of a catalog or fashion shoot. They may want sensual, sexy or even playful moods and you need to be comfortable with your body and your sexuality to project the right feelings. (Cont’d next page)
Plus Size Modeling: An Introduction (con’td)  Plus size catalog photo shoots for clothing are very different than plus size lingerie modeling. Most companies are looking for plus size models that are from sizes 10 to 18 with well proportioned bodies, pretty faces and positive, professional attitudes. Since plus size clothing is designed to flatter fuller figures, you may not have to worry about being as toned as for plus size lingerie. In many cases, these shoots are more about smiling, laughing, and being active. If you are modeling plus size swimwear or active-wear, you may need to have a more toned physique. Plus size fashion shoots will always favor the prepared. Although you may or may not be showing a lot of skin, couture plus size fashion will fit better and look better if you are well toned and filling out the clothes in all the right places. Additionally, high fashion is frequently made of higher end silks and satins which are less forgiving than cottons and knits. With strong abs and smooth lines that show off your gorgeous curves, a fashion house or magazine will be far more likely to book you again. Finally, different geographic markets call for different sized plus size models. For instance, the UK market favors sizes 12 and 14, American client's book specific sizes anywhere from 10 to 18 while the Italian market targets sizes 12 to 16. Markets like South America are just introducing plus models while the German market still favors sizes 8 to 12. One unifying factor is certainly attitude. If you are a go getter who arrives at every shoot upbeat and prepared to work, you are more likely to be a successful plus size model. The plus size models that realty stand out are always well groomed and ready to slip into whatever role they are called on to perform. Whether portraying a confident business woman or a sexy siren the most successful plus size models glow with inner confidence. The best plus models know that they are sexy and beautiful because of their curves, not in spite of them. End

Plus-size label Elena Miro goes it alone in Milan It was standing room only on Wednesday at plus‐size fashion designer Elena Miro's show ajer her house was excluded from the official programme of Milan Fashion Week. The designer, whose real name is Elena Miroglio, said she was "sMll wondering" why the organizers terminated a five‐year‐old tradiMon of scheduling her show as the Fashion Week opener. Mario Boselli, head of the NaMonal Chamber of Italian Fashion, jusMfied the move by saying: "Some labels just weren't in line with what ready‐to‐wear week should be. We wanted to champion the values of creaMvity to reaffirm Milan's role in the world." Miroglio fought back on Wednesday with an independent show harking to the 1950s "when the beauty of women, the round shapes and soj bodies" were de rigueur, she told AFP backstage before the show. Her voluptuous models took to the catwalk flaunMng their full figures, ample breasts and thighs, as well as their coque]sh smiles, against the backdrop of a romanMc black‐ and‐white cafe scene decorated with real flowers.

Her collecMon for spring/summer 2011, rich in solid light greys, beiges and whites ‐‐ normally shunned by heavier women ‐‐ was one of unabashed femininity, "posiMve and sunny," in Miroglio's words. Miroglio, who herself is diminuMve and quite thin, recognizes that designing for larger women is more challenging than for the more linear, but said that through her 25 years of experience she had developed the "know how about proporMons and shapes." As hairdressers and makeup arMsts prepared the models backstage, they could help themselves to sugary pastries weighing down a table in the back. Australian model Penelope Benson, 23, who carries 76 kilos (167 pounds) on her frame of five foot ten (1.78 metres), said fashion should get with the Mmes and was making a mistake by ignoring larger women.

A move towards more generously sized models has gained momentum since the death from anorexia in 2006 of Brazilian model Ana Carolina Reston, which shocked the fashion world. Spain and Italy banned models below a certain body mass index ajer her death, while Britain stopped short, banning only those aged under 16 from the catwalk. Leading fashion magazine Elle, in a reflecMon of the expanding market for women who defy the super‐slender ideals of the catwalk, put out a special issue in March featuring larger than normal models ‐‐ and sales jumped. Tegan Stum, a 19‐year‐old model from Texas, called the fashion world's standard thin model "a bit unhealthy." Stum, who also models for plus size labels Evans and Simply Be, said she had decided to accept her shape because she had never succeeded in losing weight. The plus side of being a plus size? At last, Big is BeauMful in the Big Apple. THEY have traditionally been shunned from the world's catwalks in favor of stick-thin women. But the rise in popularity of plus-size models is gathering pace as New York Fashion Week prepares to host its first show featuring only fuller-figured women. U.S. fashion company OneStopPlus.com will showcase dozens of outfits for larger women on prominent plus-size models including Toccara Jones and Lizzie Miller. The company, which carries British sizes 16 and above, said it wants to take a stand to 'prove that curvy women are equally as beautiful and as fashionable' as their thinner counterparts, and that New York Fashion Week was the place to do it. Although next week's show is not linked to any of the major fashion houses, it is indicative of the growing prominence of plus-size models. Miss Miller was recently pictured in a popular fashion magazine with her belly hanging out and Mad Men's Christina Hendricks has emerged as the most celebrated example of a woman who can look sexy and curvy at the same time. Several top designers, including Marc Jacobs and Prada, included fuller-figured women in their shows for autumn this year and Mark Fast used size 12 and 14 models. One of the best shows I did was with Dave Ray the Hair Surgeon on Fashion on the Hudson in 2009. I have also modeled for many designers such as Nippy Lavern, Mathew Cash, 54 kingdom, Courtney Washington, The fabric Twinz also walk in Brooklyn Fashion Weekend in 2009, 2010 just to name a few. I have also been in some music videos for artists such as rich pretty, young future, da’ville just to name a few . On July 17 2010 I received the Fashion Icon Award from BTE TV’s producer Sofia Davis. One of my goal is to walk in Mercedes Bens Fashion Week NY. I recently did an independent movie, And can’t wait to do some more acting.
Fitness has been part of my lifestyle since I was 5 years old. I am originally from AusMn, TX, so I'm a southern girl at heart, but I love my NYC, and represent Harlem to the fullest!!! I have parMcipated in cheerleading, basketball, volleyball, and track, since grade school, and coached these same sports at the college level. My fitness regime includes working out 6 days a week and consists of cardio/weights at the gym (3) Mmes a week and dancing/sports (3) Mmes a week. Petite modeling is a tough industry to break into. Especially since most modeling agencies won't represent models unless they're 5 feet and 9 inches tall or taller. Have you had people tell you that you're cute? Do you hear all the time that, "you should be a model," but you just don't qualify for the strict standards that most modeling agencies have? Rest assured there is a career out there for the petite model. There is work in the worlds of fashion, commercial publishing, and many other industries for the less than 5 feet 9 inch models. There is even work for models as short as 5 feet tall. Most of the work in the petite modeling industry involves close up pictures of the face, hands, feet or other body parts instead of the body as a whole. The fashion modeling industry, however, is very body focused. That is why they have such stringent height requirements for their models. As a peMte or average size model, you would probably not be working much in the fashion industry, so bodily imperfecMons and height are not usually factors. Even a fairly average‐looking person can be very successful in this industry if they are willing to work hard, get the job done, and show clients they are easy to work with.

Pe?te Modeling: is There a Career for You? So how do you get in to this specialized segment of the modeling market? First, remember the focus in this market is very much on the face rather than the figure. To make it in this market, you need to have nice skin, a good bone structure, good teeth, and be cute. Most of your success will also be based on the look that is "in" at the moment. To find out if you have any chance of success as a petite model, you need to get an evaluation from an agency or someone who has contact with clients within the industry. This will tell you if you have the look that their clients are hiring at the moment. If you are told you just don't have the right look at the moment, don't despair. The modeling industry moves at a fast pace, and what's not in now could be the rave in the next 6 months. The models in this segment of the market are ojen paid very well because adverMsers usually focus more on the look of the models face than her figure. AdverMsers usually have more money to spend than many clients in the fashion industry, and a good model could make as much as $125.00 per hour on her first job. Cont’d next page
Pe?te Modeling: is There a Career for You? Not cute? Don't think you have that "glamorous" look that could get you high paying jobs as a model? Don't despair, because even a normal person can get high paying jobs in this industry if they are easy to work with and sparkle on camera. A plain model who exhibits spark and vitality is more likely to get the job than a beautiful model who is lifeless. Photographers and clients would rather work with a model who is vibrant and easy to work with than a beautiful one who is horrible, does not take instructions well, and acts "snobby" or conceited on the job. Putting too high a price on yourself in this highly competitive industry many times will cause clients to pass you over for a more pleasant model. Rest assured there is plenty of work in this industry if you have the looks, talent, and are easy to work with. High Self Esteem Will Improve Your Happiness
Most agree that we need to develop high and healthy self esteem or confidence. It should be obvious why, but nevertheless it is worth mentioning what an improved self confidence can do for your life, your well being, your relationships and your happiness. So what does self confidence or esteem mean? Confidence means more tolerance and respect for others you are confident enough to accept responsibility for your actions self confidence or esteem mean that you have integrity if you are confident you'll take pride in your accomplishments self confidence means self motivated you are confident enough to take risks if you trust yourself you are able to handle criticism from others you love and trust in yourself, which make you more loving and lovable to others when you have a high self belief you will seek the challenge and stimulation that's needed to set and achieve worthwhile and demanding goals self confidence means that you can take command and control of your life.

High Self Esteem Will Improve Your Happiness (cont’d) The term self confidence or esteem, however, has been hampered by misconceptions and confusion over it's real meaning. Some have equated self confidence with egotism, arrogance, or even a trait leading to violence. This is in fact a mis-conception. Real, healthy self confidence has nothing to do these negative attrubutes. They rather seem to be defensive reactions to the lack of real confidence. People with low self confidence typically focus on trying to prove themselves or impress others. Therefore, they tend to use others for their own gain. This is leading us to the question; is it possible to have too much self confidence or esteem? Since having high confidence is equivalent to having good health, I don’t believe that it is possible to have too much real self confidence. A major characteristic of people with high self confidence is that they are well grounded in reality and balanced between an equal sense of worth and competence. You don't have to be anything but yourself. And that makes you and the people you love happy. End

I am the mot her of a 3 year old son, with an Associates degree in AccounMng, and currently embarking on a Bachelor degree in Business AdministraMon. I have always had a love for fashion and with the inspiraMon of my son and friends, decided that it was Mme that I began my modeling career. I have began to showcase my talents in a variety of fashion and hair shows, and have met wonderful friends along the way. It has been graMfying to network and form friendships with other men and women who support and praise the new era within the fashion and modeling industry for PLUS SIZE women.
