Here is some information about him: Osmani was born in ‘Habana Vieja’, a very special barrio of Havana, Cuba. He began his dancing journey at age 16 in Cuba. Since then, the street was his main school and the stage became his second home. He was a member of several dance companies in Cuba, allowing him to improve his knowledge of dances like, Rumba, AfroCuban Body Isolation, Mambo, Cha Cha Chá and other traditional cuban dances, as well as Casino de Calle (also known as Salsa Cuban Style) and international dances like Samba and Hip-Hop. His career as a teacher started back in Cuba in 2002. In 2006 he became a member of the german hip-hop crew ‘Just blaze’ led by Camillo Lauricella and with them became a German Hip-Hop Champion. Since 2010 he provides his knowledge to his students, all the way from beginners to stage performer level. Milano Latin Festival 2018 - 66 days of music and culture in Italy Five different Dance Squares to experience all the music of Latin America in one event! Thousands and thousands of people of all ages danced for 66 days in a row in this 4th Milan Latin Festival. On the 66th night, a Saturday night fever was skyrocket, before finally closing its doors on the 2018 edition and to meet again in the summer of 2019.

On Saturday, August 18th, as every day since June 14th, the Milano Latin Festival opened the gates at 6.30 pm and closed them at 2 am, for the last mint-flavored aperitif and lime; the last dinner with authentic Latin-American flavors, the last night with the favorite Latin music to listen to and dance in the Festival's 5 plazas: Plaza 100% Latina full of cumbia, salsa brava and salsa dura with Dj Dee and Dj Lamega and their dancers had fun to the rhythms of bachata, reggaeton, salsa, merengue, dembow; and commercial music in Playa Santo Domingo; the "Cubanissimo show" of dance and animation directly from Isla Grande, in Plaza Cuba; this year's novelties, met with great success, are the Salsodromo Camana, ran directly from the very famous Camana Club for all of the music and dance lovers, and PraĂ§a Brasil, the square dedicated exclusively to Brazilian music and dance, a location that had been missing for many years and has been re-inserted to give great importance to the great tradition of the Brazilian sound.

The fourth edition of the Milan Latin Festival ended. During the 66 days of the show, we enjoyed over 190,000 appearances. In over two months, 32 live concerts by some of the greatest stars of Latin music took place, uninterrupted such as Ozuna, Lali Esposito, Prince Royce, Willie Colòn, Piso 21, Grupo Niche, Daniela Mercury, Havana D'Primera 14 groups of traditional music and dance for the inaugural party, 7 national festivals, 16 cultural events dedicated to different countries, 21 folk events, 5 different dance squares opened every night, a big screen TV to see the world cup, 4 restaurants and 4 tasting points where you could enjoy all the nuances of Latin American cuisine, 5 discos & cocktail bars and a rum museum; the stands that revived the typical Latin American handicraft markets, a children's area and the Great Ferragosto of the children with Geronimo Stilton.

Hay muchas personas que se desenvuelven en el ámbito musical ya sea artistas, maestros, promotores, entre otros que consiguen sus metas mediante el trabajo duro, perseverancia y amor a la realización de su sueño. En esta ocasión conoceremos a Jimena Verano León, quien nació en 1974 (44 años) en Bogotá, Colombia. Nos menciona que a partir de sus 5 años es salsera gracias a su padre que es músico, quien trabajo con prestigiosas Orquestas Colombianas que marcaron su gusto musical, entre los temas que más le agradaron están “El Gran Combo”, “Richie Ray” y “Andy Montañez”. Oscar Dudamel el padre de Gustavo Dudamel director de la Orquesta filarmónica de los Ángeles y de la Orquesta Simón Bolívar de Venezuela, tiene muchos años de ser músico, todos los viernes y sábados, recibe los aplausos del público en el local donde toca el trombón desde una pequeña tarima con” La otra Banda de Dudamel” el conjunto Agraz, un grupo de salsa que tiene como plato fuerte los temas de la dupla que hicieron famosos Héctor Lavoe y Willie Colón. Los domingos, a Oscar Dudamel le toca estar en la otra orilla y aplaudir de pie, como lo hacen los padres, hinchados de orgullo por el talento de su hijo que con batuta en mano, dirige una Orquesta Sinfónica de prestigio mundial y que si se piensa bien, su vena musical germinó de los metales de la charanga la salsa y el guaguancó.

Y es que la música, a menudo, entra también por los ojos, que lo diga Oscar Dudamel, que supo que quería ser trombonista cuando vio en La Feria de la Alegría a Willie Colón empuñar su instrumento al tiempo que inflaba los cachetes, de esa manera, es sabido, que el primer acercamiento del hoy brillante, joven y cotizado Director de Orquesta Gustavo Dudamel a la música, no fue apreciando al Tchaikovski que tanto le gusta dirigir, por el contrario fue apreciando la música que salía del trombón de su adorado padre. En junio anterior Oscar rindió como de costumbre homenaje a Hector Lavoe, por conmemorarse años de su muerte. “Héctor Lavoe murió el lunes 29 de junio de 1993 a las 11:45 de la mañana”, suceso que recuerda con la exactitud que marcan los hechos tristes, pero a pesar del dolor, con satisfacción y orgullo, menciona que su hijo Gustavo de solo 29 años, antes de entrar a escena repite un ritual especial: “ANTES DE ENTRAR A DIRIGIR EN NUEVA YORK ALGUIEN LE PREGUNTÓ A GUSTAVO: ‘”MAESTRO, ESCUCHANDO?

Pasadas las 10 de la noche es difícil encontrar lugar en “El templo de la salsa”, las entradas no se agotan, pero sí las mesas y los mejores puestos de este local ubicado en la calle 7 que cruza la avenida Bolívar de Maracay, allí se dan cita fanáticos y bailarines aficionados. de la salsa y lógicamente admiradores de Héctor Lavoe y Willie Colón. A Oscar Dudamel en el trombón lo acompañan Charly Guzmán, un joven talentoso que con apenas 18 años muestra los dotes de su voz; Oswaldo Agraz (director musical, piano y coros), Gerardo Vargas (bajo), Vicente Guzmán (timbal), Júnior Narváez (bongó), Diego Camus (conga y coros), Ventura Prieto (trombón) y Johan Figueroa (trombón suplente). Se trata del mismo formato, instrumentos e idéntica distribución (los trombones al lado del vocalista) de la orquesta que lo cautivó.

Si alguien dijera que Gustavo Dudamel tiene una deuda de su vocación de músico con Willie Colón y Héctor Lavoe no sería desacertado, o reconoce su padre, quien muchas veces ha referido que la versatilidad de su hijo se debe a que siempre escuchó música popular y clásica. “ESCUCHABA MÁS SALSA QUE BEETHOVEN, POR ESO SERÁ QUE TIENE TANTO RITMO”, DICE ENTRE RISAS.

En una vida marcada por la música no podía faltar un soundtrack para el enamoramiento. Fue durante la visita de El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico a Barquisimeto a finales de los 70, que Oscar se fijó en Solange Ramírez, su esposa y madre de Gustavo; hoy 30 años después cuando en Maracay suena Falsaria, el tema lo lleva a recordar aquel momento imborrable.

“Yo me imaginaba que Gustavo iba a ser músico”, cuenta. “Le dije: ‘Tienes que ser el mejor o estar entre los mejores y nunca perder tus principios ni olvidar de dónde venimos’”. A los siete años Gustavo tocó el timbal con La Banda Actual y a los nueve años le hacía los arreglos a esta orquesta de salsa en la que Oscar tocó por 16 años y con la que se reencontró, luego de muchos años. Gustavo se decidió por el violín, un instrumento que se ajustaba a su talla, y en casa, padre e hijo tenían la manía de estudiar caminando. Había momentos en los que uno se agachaba para que pasara el otro, para que la vara del trombón y el arco del violín no se tropezaran. Sin embargo, música popular y música académica hicieron finalmente su propio encuentro. El padre habla de su orquesta de salsa, con el mismo orgullo que el hijo (Gustavo) lo hace de sus músicos clásicos.

Gustavo Adolfo, como lo llama su madre, comenzó desde antes de los cuatro años a tocar güiro; más tarde él mismo armaba su batería con latas de galleta y cascos de seguridad. Gustavo recibió los primeros conocimientos de música de su papá, que entonces era trombonista de la Sinfónica de Lara, a quien le sobraba pasión para tocar y le faltaba paciencia para enseñar. Quiso ser trombonista, como su padre, pero su pequeño brazo no alcanzaba el instrumento.

EDWIN “EL CALVITO” REYES FROM COMBAT TO BEATS

After participating in the largest military coalition in the history of the United States, Edwin "El Calvito" Reyes has shown that the phrase "If you dream that you can achieve it" is totally true. Dreams are achievable with perseverance, dedication and talent, qualities that this dreamy Sonero has, who will launch his record label soon for all Salseros lovers who support the new blood of the Salsa. Edwin was born in Trujillo Alto (Puerto Rico) in 1974 and when he was 19 years old, he began his artistic career, playing and doing concerts of Plena (Folkloric Puerto Rican Music) in his hometown. Five years later "El Calvito" Reyes enlisted in the US Army in order to give a better future to his family, after a terrible work accident in his previous job (He was an Electrician). During this year of change (1997) Edwin had his first opportunity in front of the American public as vocalist leader in a consolidated orchestra in these lands, "Papo salsa and his Tumbao" in Fort Stewart Army Post, GA, thanks to the expert eyes of Víctor Paris and Mr. Godreau, "Papo Salsa".

From March 2003 to 2007, Edwin "El Calvito" Reyes went to combat four times in Iraq and once fought in Afghanistan, but he always felt the need to help relieve the stress of all the soldiers who were in those circumstances like him. In this way he created Saturdays of Salsa in combat for which he received help in the first instance from an U.S. civilian specialist in communications, Mr. Pérez, who contributed a large part of the necessary sound equipment to carry out this incredible idea at the beginning. Later, Edwin with his percussionist and DJ skills in 2005 returns to Iraq but this time better prepared to carry out the Saturdays of Salsa parties during the fight. During this year he had his first performance in front of a crowd of soldiers and civilians accompanied by an orchestra of 14 musicians live, among which were:

19 the Puerto Rican and master pianist José Pomales, Willie Báez, Julio De La Rosa, and Javier Solivan, among others ... Everyone playing outdoors in the main dining room at Camp Liberty where the stage was. From this success, the band continued its touches until 2007 in this warlike country with an orchestra of more than 15 pieces: Piano, Bass, Trumpets, Trombones, Tenor Sax, Conga, Timbale, Bongo / Bell, Drums, Vocalists and a sound master, with which this wonderful orchestra made a total of 25 presentations. “We were flown like true artist, in helicopters from one base to another, to just perform and then return back to our original base… Playing at Saddam’s Palace (a true palace made of concrete and marble) was the highlight. Also, at Camp Slayer where the biggest dancing crew gathered was an adrenaline rush for us… All with the help of great people who really felt like I felt; boost our own moral in combat!” told us Edwin.

In parallel to his military career, "El Calvito" Reyes participated in the Latin Music Orchestra in the city of Savannah, GA, "Ron con Anís" by the dead musician David Mercado and of which in 2006 he would be its owner under the new name "Orquesta con Clase" reaching objectives such as: leading the Latin American Services Organization (LASO) Festival in Savannah with more than 6,000 attendees; They were the "Guests of Honor" for the Fiesta Atlanta Festival at the Olympic Centennial Park in Atlanta, Georgia, performing in front of 10,000 people. Also, they served as the backup band for: Salsa Legend, Larry Harlow, the 2011 Hotalanta Salsa Congress, and many more.. In 2011 he is part of a selection of elite musicians of the U.S. Army to form a Latin music band called "One & Only" idea of creation by The Army Marketing & Research Group (AMRG) and carried out by the musicians Carlos Negrón and Albert Sánchez. This band, similar to U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors sang Salsa, Merengue, Bachata and other Latin rhythms for the entertainment of their audience.

During his tenure in this band he performed at the annual conventions of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), which is the largest nonprofit organization in America. He helped many Latinos obtain millionaire scholarships, he was master of ceremonies on three occasions contributing with his knowledge on "The importance to stay positive and reach that goal" and "How the army life will impact your life”. From 2012 to 2016, he was the Official in charge of the Ensemble. He achieved the inclusion of more musicians to the group including female talent. He had the privilege of meeting political figures such as Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton and Ricky Rosello (current Puerto Rico’s Governor), as well as acting in front of world-renowned stars such as: his idol Gilberto Santa Rosa, Olga Tañón, Tito Nieves, Jennifer Lopez, and many luminaries of the country's Hispanic television. Edwin "El Calvito" Reyes, leader, visionary and humble was also the host of a radio show called "My Salsa Show" in WHCJ 90.3fm at Savannah State University. From there derives his nickname "El Calvito", thanks to one of his fellow broadcasters of the station and since then he is known as Edwin “El Calvito” Reyes by all his fans.

This Sonero, percussionist has composed several songs and has made numerous covers. "You are My Wife" (2016) with arrangements by Castor Ugarte was his first composition with lyrics inspired by his wife. His most recent single "Mi Tierra Querida", al Son de Bolero, (2018) showed that doing what he loves has been one of his best keys to his resounding ascent in this career. This composition of the "Virtuoso de la Salsa" Rey Torcat with arrangements of the same Edwin with Eric Maldonado (Owner and Master Engineer at Paris Recording Studios, Tampa, FL) and on the piano, Adam Perez, has been a symbol of hope for all Puerto Rican emigrants based in the U.S. "Mi Tierra Querida" was awarded by the Akademia Music Award for Best Song back in April 2018. Lyric by Rey Torcat, produced by Eric Maldonado, and with the participation of: Archie Pereira (piano), Kevin Pagan (Bass), Luis Chafalote (trumpets), José León (trombones) and Ricardo Rodríguez (saxophone Bari). This song currently ranks # 1 in Salsa Tune in Barcelona, Spain, based on the Record Pool of "Gussi DJ" on Tune in Radio. "Soneros de Sangre Nueva" is another song of his authorship and the third that works in conjunction with Rey Torcat. In this single they share together the interpreters: Josean Rivera "El Nuevo Amolador", Edwin Lebron "Xtraordinario", Nandy "El Sinsonte" (Conquistador Del Elemento) and Gumbay Navedo (Carmen Sol).

CREDITS: Roberto Valentin, better known as Bobby Valentin, was born on June 9th, 1941 in Orocovis - Puerto Rico. His father taught him to play the guitar at a young age. When he was 11 years old, he participated in a local talent contest with a trio that he had formed. He played the guitar and sang for the trio and they won the first place prize. In 1963, Valentin joined Tito Rodriguez and traveled twice with Tito's orchestra to Venezuela. He also made musical arrangements for Tito and at times for Charlie Palmieri, Joe Quijano, Willie Rosario, and Ray Barretto. Bobby was also the musical arranger for the Fania All Stars, and is featured in a live recording of the conglomerate's song "Descarga Fania" (which he also wrote) playing a bass guitar solo. In 1975, He left Fania and founded his own record label "Bronco Records" and released the album "Va a la Carcel" Vol 1 and Vol 2, recorded "live" at "El Oso Blanco", Puerto Rico's oldest state penitentiary. During the years Valentin has been featured in recordings (and occasional live performances) by Larry Harlow, Ismael Miranda, Roberto Roena, Cheo Feliciano and the always remembered, Celia Cruz.
