PAIR HALF-DAY CAMPS TOGETHER TO CREATE A FULL-DAY CAMP EXPERIENCE. SEE SCHEDULE-AT-A-GLANCE

CARTOONS & COMICS

AGES 9-11: Learn design and drawing tricks to take your comics and cartoons to the next level. Campers look at a variety of illustrators and styles before incorporating special design elements into their work. Campers also discover how to enhance their work by learning about layouts, lettering, and figure drawing techniques. By the end of the week, students will have created their own storyline, cartoon, and comic strips to share.

CLAY CREATIONS

AGES 6-8: Join us for a week of hands-on play in our clay studio! In this project-based camp, students will learn fun and functional art through handbuilding methods including pinch, coil, and slab. Using stamps, textures, and colorful underglazes, they’ll add decorative techniques that make their creations unique. Finished pottery will be available 4-6 weeks after the camp’s end. All items will be dishwasher-safe and lead-free.

DARKROOM PHOTO

AGES 9-11, 12-17: Experience the magic of a traditional photographic darkroom! In this camp, students go on guided photo shoots in the South End of Burlington with our manual 35mm SLR film cameras and learn how to print their own photographs in our black and white darkroom.

DIGITAL PHOTO

AGES 9-11, 12-17: Learn the basics of digital photography! In this camp, students go on guided photo shoots in the South End of Burlington and are instructed in our Digital Lab, learning camera controls, image editing software, and color printing techniques to make prints, small books/zines, and more!

DIY T-SHIRTS

AGES 9-11: Create one-of-a-kind t-shirts using a variety of construction methods such as appliqué, embroidery, fabric dying, printing, and upcycling of old clothes. Students learn basic hand sewing techniques and take turns on the sewing machine. All materials are provided, but campers are also invited to bring in old t-shirts that they want to reinvent.

DRAWING & PAINTING

AGES 9-11, 12-17: Spend the week in BCA’s drawing and painting studio experimenting with different techniques such as acrylic, charcoal, perspective, and abstraction. Students develop a deeper understanding of professional 2-D artistic techniques and leave with painting and drawings to add to their art portfolio. Individual projects are encouraged in this class based on students’ interests.

FINE METAL JEWELRY

AGES 9-11, 12-17: Use professional jewelry tools to make rings, pendants, and bracelets with brass and silver. Learn basic jewelry techniques including sawing, filing, soldering, texturing, ring sizing, and more. Beads and other craft techniques enhance your wearable art. Leadfree solder and flux are used during the camp.

JEWELRY

AGES 6-8, 9-11: Paper beads, glass beads, clay beads, and more! Learn how to make jewelry with all different kinds of materials. Campers learn how to attach clasps, use beading tools, and make their own beads and pendants. By the end of the week, campers will have earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and more to share or keep.

LEGO ANIMATION

AGES 9-11 : Learn how to bring your favorite Lego characters to life using stop-motion animation! Students write original stories, construct sets, and then animate their characters for the camera. Aspects of postproduction work, including some computer editing, are incorporated. Campers leave with a flash drive of their images and projects. Bring your favorite Legos (or other small toys) or use the ones we provide.

MINI WORLDS

AGES 6-8: Shrink down with us and come create small wonderful worlds. Campers are encouraged to explore a variety of craft media to create tiny, intricate terrariums, doll houses, fairy worlds, and more.

NEEDLE FELTING

AGES 12-17: Explore fiber arts as a new way of making and creating! In this camp, students will learn needle and wet felting as well as decorative embroidery techniques to transform spools of colorful wool roving into whimsical 3D creations, felted soaps, and fiber relief wall hangings.

PHOTO COLLAGE

AGES 6-8: Experience BCA’s photography lab! Instant print photos, nature prints, found imagery, and camera-less photograph prints called photograms become the base for creating unique photo collages. Create landscapes, portraits, or silly abstract concepts and use other mixed media supplies to embellish your creations.

POTTERY

AGES 9-11, 12-17: Join us for a week of working with clay in the BCA ceramics studio. Create bowls, cups, sculptures, and more through wheel throwing and hand building techniques. Learn surface design and decorating tips to make your pieces amazing. Finished pottery will be available 4-6 weeks after the camp’s end. All items will be dishwasher-safe and lead-free.

PRINTMAKING

AGES 6-8: Learn all about printmaking as a way to make exciting new art. In BCA’s professional print studio, campers will learn different techniques such as carving foam stamps and monoprinting using professional tools. AGES 6-8: Make a stuffed animal or creature of your choice! Campers learn basic sewing techniques and use simple patterns to cut and create their own stuffies out of various sewing materials, including cottons, rickrack, yarns, ribbons, buttons, puffy fabric paints, and more.
