NEW EVENT: BLACK HISTORY MONTH 2025 FESTIVAL

This year marks its inaugural celebration in the city, a momentous occasion reflecting a growing awareness and commitment to recognizing and honoring the rich cultural heritage of the Black community. The festival aims to educate, inspire, and foster a deeper understanding of Black history and its profound impact on society.

The event will take place at Lincoln Park on Saturday, February 1, 2025. Interested vendors and participants should visit cob.recdesk.com to reserve their spot.

NEW: SENIOR CENTER

Brownsville has opened a vibrant new Senior Center inside the Brownsville Community Resource Center located at 519 E. Madison Street, offering a haven for local seniors. This welcoming space provides a range of programs and services, from exercise classes (line dancing, Tai Chi) to wellness workshops and social events. The center aims to foster community connections, encourage active lifestyles, and enrich the lives of Brownsville’s older residents.

The Keep Brownsville Beautiful program, in partnership with the City of Brownsville Parks and Recreation Department, offers a unique opportunity for volunteers to get involved in hands-on projects that benefit both the environment and the community. Camp K9 Dog Park at Charles M. Cabler Park (550 Burnett Rd) is officially OPEN! Thanks to the collaborative efforts of Gabriel Sanchez of Boys Scouts of America Troop 777 Eagle Project Build, volunteers, and PARD staff, our furry friends now have a dedicated space to play and socialize.

Little Dribblers is a fun and engaging basketball program designed for girls and boys ages 3-4.

Capable Kids is an inclusive program supporting children with disabilities through recreational and developmental activities. The program offers diverse events and workshops that enhance physical, social, and cognitive skills in a fun, engaging environment. Capable Kids fosters community, promotes independence, and encourages participation in activities tailored to individual needs.

The Inclusion Caboose at Linear Park, a historic train caboose transformed into a sensory-friendly space and lending library, welcomes visitors Saturdays from 9 AM to 12 PM. It offers inclusive activities like arts and crafts, storytime, occasional puppet shows, and themed photo props.

SERVICE LEARNING

The Bike Barn’s “Volunteer to Earn a Bike” program allows participants to earn a bike by volunteering 15 hours fixing up donated bicycles and working in the small community garden.
