SECURITY
ENGINEERED BEYOND EXCELLENCE BUBEN&ZORWEG - the name is synonymous with luxury and security around the world. Today, the company’s master-crafted objects to protect even finer objects are being celebrated for 20 years of being light years ahead By: E.J. Webber
T
he history of a company is not always the most interesting – often it is cut and dried and very to the point. But, the House of BUBEN&ZORWEG is another story entirely. Celebrating their 20th anniversary as a true luxury company that is known all over the world, BUBEN&ZORWEG’s kernel of inception began in Austria when two ten year old boys, Harald Buben and Christian Zörweg dreamed of traveling around the world as they walked home from school together, kicking the pebbles of their future along the road. Soon, as university students, they found themselves selling Australian opals to jewelers and while still in school, established their company, one that specialized in luxury watch winders, designed to encase and care for self-winding watches. Their dedication and craftsmanship to the automatic mechanical rewinding of timepieces led them to invite Daniel Private Air New York | Summer 2015
Zörweg, Christian’s brother, to become a shareholder of their brand and becoming the manager of the clock and watch atelier. From small beginnings luxury empires may grow, and grow it did with BUBEN&ZORWEG becoming a leader in the technology of not only the finest of timepieces and watch winders, but of the creation of bespoke objects and interiors that showcase all that is precious to clients in over 100 countries. And looking to the future and being able to see the imaginable is after all what has propelled them forward since they were ten. Seeing the design that encased a self-winding watch made them realize that other items far larger than a watch, such as prized family heirlooms and collections of great value could also be stored and displayed in customized “boxes” to suite the pleasure of those who wish their collections to also be available for viewing. 44

SECURITY
PRIVATE MUSEUM is a security system where design, aesthetics, and cutting edge security come together. Inserted into a wall, the system frames armored glass and slides vertically to allow access and viewing. A biometric fingerprint system and invisible infrared grid supplies multi levels of security and protection.
X-TREME 007 are safes by BUBEN&ZORWEG that literally elevate at the touch of a button, and one would think are taken out of a 007 movie. This generation of safes has an “X” shaped cover and the only safe in the world that opens vertically and is completely disguised to the uninformed viewer.
The GALAXY are head-turning, sophisticated safes covered in various luxurious leathers. A completely futuristic look marks these devices of high quality quilted leather and high-gloss lacquer - available in Pearl White or Black Stardust. Chrome metal shaped handles allows owners access to precious content.

With seven standalone boutiques and over 25 in-shop boutiques, the company makes their cutting edge technology and stunning custom cabinetry available to showcase glorious objects in private residences, yachts, and palaces around the world. The company has collaborated with Aston Martin, heads of state, royalty, athletes and Hollywood stars among many loyal clients. Currently, taking inspiration from the early 20th century Art Deco period, BUBEN&ZORWEG have thought of every detail of their collectibles cabinets – making them a work of art in themselves as well as the laser focus on security for their clients. The Art Deco collection was shown at Baselworld this year. Their manufacturing facility in Germany’s engineering region near Stuttgart, invests thought in every detail from hand selecting woods for perfect grain and color, to engineering how the doors will glide and open. 46
Taking a cue from famed auction houses such as Sotheby’s or Christie’s proved to the company that paintings, sculptures and other fine art objects, are coveted by collectors and investors and need securing. Thus the PRIVATE MUSEUM was unveiled recently to show that design, aesthetics, and cutting edge security can come together in one single and sophisticated display system. Inserted into a wall, the system frames armored glass and slides vertically to allow access and viewing. A biometric fingerprint system and invisible infrared grid supplies additional levels of security and protection. Luxury at its best often belies the fact that it is difficult to keep truly stupendous items safe and secure. However, BUBEN&ZORWEG have made it easier and sophisticated at the same time. Not a bad way to continue a dream begun a long time ago, and to celebrate a 20th anniversary. www.privateairny.com
