What it means to

be a bison “... the pursuit of athletics in college need not interfere with a fellow’s studies, and if you give a boy a well developed body his brain will get the benefit of it.” — Christy Mathewson in his book Won in the Ninth, Ninth, written in 1910

The term “student-athlete” signifies something extraordinary on the campus of Bucknell University. Being a Bison means that you have the rare blend of physical skills along with the drive and passion needed to succeed at the highest level of collegiate athletics. Being a Bison also means that you are a scholar first and foremost. You believe that values associated with Division I athletics, such as time management, leadership, teamwork and grace under pressure, are but a part of a well-rounded college experience. At Bucknell, our students, faculty and staff pride themselves as national leaders in upholding the scholar-athlete ideal that balances a challenging academic program with the demands of successful Division I athletics. Being a Bison means that you have pledged to be a studentathlete in the purest sense. In doing so, you will be rewarded for a lifetime.

BUCKNELL BISON ATHLETICS SETTING THE STANDARD OF EXCELLENCE Bucknell takes great pride in its commitment to excellence on and off the playing fields. From Presidents’ Cups to Academic All-Americans to graduation rates that are ranked annually in the national top-10, Bucknell is clearly at the head of the class when it comes to upholding the scholar-athlete ideal. •

According to federal data released by the NCAA each fall, Bucknell’s student-athlete graduation rate annually ranks in the top 10 among all Division I institutions. Bucknell has led the nation in graduation rates three times and ranked second in the most recent survey in the fall of 2014. All 27 Bison varsity teams easily met the NCAA’s Academic Performance Rate (APR) standards once again last year. In fact, 19 programs boast perfect scores in the four-year rolling average. Bucknell received 19 NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) National Recognition Awards, the second-highest total among all Division I institutions.

Bucknell has claimed a league-high 139 Patriot League Scholar-Athletes of the Year since the league’s inception as an all-sports conference in 1990-91.

A total of 441 Bison appeared on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in 2014-15 after recording a GPA of 3.2 or better during their sport’s competition season. Among all BU student-athletes, 312 made the Dean’s List with GPAs of 3.5 or better during the spring 2015 semester.

In addition to the 128 Capital One Academic All-Americans produced since 1970, Bucknell has also claimed 346 Academic All-District honorees over the same span, including five in 2014-15.

Bucknell has earned 101 Patriot League championships in 25 years in the league. In addition, Bucknell has had 129 conference players of the year, 110 PL coaches of the year and a whopping 605 individual league champions from sports such as cross country, track & field, swimming & diving, tennis and golf.

26 of Bucknell’s 27 varsity squads posted team GPAs of 3.0 or better in the spring of 2015.

Bucknell has captured the Patriot League Presidents’ Cup, signifying the league’s all-sports champion, 18 times in the 25-year history of the affiliation, including 14 of the last 18 years.

Bucknell ranks FIFTH in the nation (to Nebraska, Notre Dame, Penn State and Stanford) in total number of Capital One Academic All-America selections with 128.

A major element in ensuring Bucknell’s commitment to athletics excellence is the Kenneth G. Langone Athletics & Recreation Center, which opened fully in 2003. One of the finest collegiate athletics facilities of its kind, the center includes the 4,000-seat Sojka Pavilion, the Olympic class Kinney Natatorium, the Krebs Family Fitness Center and the Berger Family Weight Room. A Hall of Fame area, a display of Bucknell’s Medal of Honor recipients, an Academic All-America wall, a sports medicine suite, modern offices for coaches and staff, and locker room and classroom space are also included in the facility’s layout.

BUCKNELL BISON ATHLETICS A NATIONAL MODEL IN PROMOTING THE SCHOLAR-ATHLETE IDEAL Bucknell Athletics is first and foremost a student-centered organization, one that strives to be a national leader when it comes to operating by a true scholar-athlete model. At Bucknell, student-athletes’ academic programs are their first priority, and providing a competitive Division I athletics program only advances the mission, values and residential learning goals of the university. To that end, the Department of Athletics and Recreation proactively seeks ways to assist student-athletes in their daily academic pursuits. Below are just some of the student-athlete support programs currently in place. BUCKNELL BISON LEADERSHIP ACADEMY: In 2011-12, the Department of Athletics launched the Bucknell Bison Leadership Academy. This program is designed to help student-athletes learn how to be effective leaders on and off the playing fields. The Leadership Academy features programming and instruction that bridge theory, development and real experiences in an interactive learning environment. Through this endeavor, team leaders can enhance their impact on their teammates’ and their program’s performance immediately and for years to come. FACULTY ATHLETICS REPRESENTATIVE: The faculty athletics representative (FAR) is a member of the faculty or administrative staff who is designated to represent Bucknell in its relationships with the NCAA and the Patriot League. Bucknell’s FAR is Mitch Chernin, Professor of Biology. The FAR can enhance the student-athlete experience by promoting a balance between academics, athletics and the social lives of student-athletes, which affords them opportunities to enjoy a full range of collegiate experiences. SIDELINE COACH PROGRAM: This program is a truly unique initiative in Division I college athletics, and it involves the invitation of a member of the faculty, administration, staff or community by one of Bucknell’s 27 varsity teams. The participant has the opportunity to discuss the overall program with the respective coaching staff, including practice preparation and strategy for the upcoming contest. The sideline coach attends a practice session and an actual intercollegiate competition, where he/she is introduced to the team and gains rarely seen insight into the relationships that exist between player-coach and player-player. The purpose of the Sideline Coaches Program is to foster a better understanding by the faculty and administration of the roles played by coaches and athletes in the university’s competitive intercollegiate athletic arena. ACADEMIC ENHANCEMENT CENTER: In the Fall of 2005, the Department of Athletics opened a study/computer lab for student-athletes on the concourse level of Sojka Pavilion. The center is outfitted with computers, a laser printer, four television monitors and a projection unit with computer, VCR and DVD player. Additionally, the study lab can be used as a meeting place for group projects, tutorial area or just a secluded and quiet study space before or after practice. In addition, the Department of Athletics owns a number of laptop computers that may be signed out by student-athletes for use on away trips. STUDENT-ATHLETE ADVISORY COMMITTEE (SAAC): Representatives from each varsity team comprise the SAAC, which is designed to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete welfare, and fostering a positive student-athlete image. The Committee is an invaluable resource for promoting communication between athletics administration and student-athletes; promoting communication between athletics and campus-wide administration; providing feedback and insight, as well as soliciting responses into department issues and proposed NCAA legislation; building a sense of community within the athletics program involving all athletics teams; organizing community service projects and efforts; creating a vehicle for student-athlete representation on campus-wide committees; serving as a collective voice of campus student-athletes; and disseminating information to the student-athlete body. Among the programs the Bucknell SAAC has undertaken in recent years are regular volunteer trips to the Lewisburg Food Bank, and involvement with the “Orange and Blue goes Green” sustainability program. BISON GOOD SPORTS: Now in its ninth year, Bison Good Sports is a sportsmanship awareness program designed to promote appropriate fan conduct at all Bison sporting events. Bucknell teams have some of the best fan support in the Patriot League, and we encourage all fans to enthusiastically cheer on the Orange & Blue in a positive manner.

Season Outlook In 2015, Bucknell posted a 16-10 non-conference record against a formidable schedule, was a strong 11-7 at Depew Field, had an ERA more than a run lower than its opponents, outhit and outscored its foes, and was one of just two Patriot League teams to finish above .500. The Bison will attempt to build upon those accomplishments in 2016 and return to the Patriot League Tournament for the third time in the last four years. Fourth-year head coach Scott Heather, the 2014 Patriot League Coach of the Year, expects Bucknell to make a postseason appearance and be in the mix at the top of the always competitive Patriot League. "We want to compete for a Patriot League title," noted the 12-year member of the Bison coaching staff. "We will play a tough non-conference schedule that will challenge us. We want to get better each week and be playing our best ball when Patriot League play rolls around. Maybe we peaked a little early last year. "I thought we played well out of conference, but didn't play as well once league play started and lost some close games. Being the returning champion, we were the hunted and got everybody's best. We can certainly learn from that." There are 17 members of the 2016 Bison who were part of the team that captured the Patriot League regular-season and tournament titles two years ago, and they will provide plenty of leadership for the younger classes. "It helps that those guys have tasted the success and know what it is like to have that experience," said Heather, who was a Bison assistant for eight years before taking over the top spot in 2013. "They are motivated to get back to the postseason. We had a productive fall and one of the best offseasons since I have been here. We have seen a lot of improvement." Bucknell has an experienced group in its lineup and in the field. All eight of the players expected to start in the field on opening day are members of the junior or senior classes. Those eight players combined to start 236

games last year, and they have 527 career starts between them. "We have a veteran offensive group," commented Heather. "Our lineup should have a little more punch and depth this year. Hopefully the defense will be as good as we were two years ago. We will play a lot of veterans and we feel good about their improvements over the years." Overall, Bucknell has 26 letterwinners back from last year's team. STARTING PITCHING: For the first time since 2012, Bucknell has to replace two members of its weekend starting rotation as the Bison lost standouts Xavier Hammond and Bryson Hough to graduation. Hough was a four-year weekend starter, while Hammond was a jack-of-all-trades lefty who spent two years as a regular member of the rotation, but also pitched out of the bullpen in many key situations While those two veterans will be missed, there is still plenty of talent remaining, headlined by senior team co-captain Andrew Andreychik. The 2013 Patriot League Rookie of the Year enters his fourth year as a conference starter, and this year he will move from pitching game one on Sunday to pitching the first game of each series. "Andrew's role has expanded each year, and each year he has stepped up to the challenge," praised Heather, who was the team's pitching coach during his days as an assistant to Gene Depew. "He has always had great command, and this year he has added a little bit more velocity. He is a consistent pitcher who will give us a chance to win each time no matter who we are facing." Andreychik enters the season tied for Bucknell's all-time shutout record with five during his career. His control has been impeccable throughout his tenure as a Bison, walking just 2.24 hitters per nine innings of work, the sixthbest ratio in program history. A native of nearby Danville, Andreychik is 13-13 in his career with a 3.41 ERA, which ranks ninth in school annals. He has allowed just 167 hits in 169.0 career innings and oppo-

Mike Castellani

nents are hitting just .259 off him. Last year, Andreychik was 4-5 with a 2.44 ERA to rank fourth in the Patriot League. He tied his career high with four complete games and was twice named Patriot League Pitcher of the Week. The other returning member of the starting rotation is junior lefty Mike Castellani. After opening the season in the bullpen, he joined the rotation beginning with the second Patriot League series of the year. He was 1-1 with a 4.78 ERA as a starter. "Mike has been so valuable to us out of the bullpen during his career, but he is working on building his pitch count now," said Heather. "He needs to add that third pitch. He does a good job with his fastball and throws a couple different types, but adding the full arsenal is key." Castellani has an impressive 7-1 record in his career with a stellar 2.61 ERA. He has allowed 76 hits and struck out 48 in 86.1 career innings. Sophomore Connor Van Hoose is one of the leading candidates to scoop up one of the remaining two spots in the rotation. The Alxandria, Virginia, native logged 6.2 innings in five relief appearances as a rookie, but impressed Heather and pitching coach Jason Neitz during the offseason. "Connor had a great fall and has the potential to be a front-line pitcher in the Patriot League in the years to come," praised Heather. "He needs to go out there and prove it now. Connor will work to solidify his spot during the pre-conference portion of the schedule." Two seniors (Dan Keller, Max Kra) and two freshmen (Jeff Gottesman, Jack Grabek) are also in contention to be weekend starters. Keller, who along with fellow seniors Andreychik, Joe Ogren and Tommy Pennington, is a team captain, earned three mid-week starts last year in his first campaign back from missing a season due to injury. He struck out 15 and yielded just 16 hits in 19.0 innings of work over seven appearances. Kra missed the early part of 2015 with an injury, but finished with 15.1 innings in nine relief appearances, five of which were against

Season Outlook lineup on a consistent basis." There are a number of players also in mix at first base, including catchers Fritz and Klugerman. Sam Clark, who has played third base most of his career, could play some first, as could freshman Miles Moore. Mayer could also play first base at times to give him a bit of a rest and still keep his potent bat in the lineup.

Jon Mayer

Patriot League opponents. Kra has had varied roles over the course of his career. He was the team's closer as a freshman in 2013, made four mid-week starts in 2014, and pitched exclusively out of the bullpen last spring. "Both Dan and Max are primed for big senior years," predicted Heather. "They will have major roles on our staff. "All seven of the guys are good options to start. We should have good depth on the staff. Now we need to develop roles for each guy and see who rises to the top." Heather also noted that freshmen P.J. Strahm and Christian Tailor could develop and become mid-week starters as the year progresses. RELIEF PITCHING: Bucknell has a versatile and talented bullpen that is strong at the end of games. At the back end of the bullpen is a pair of pitchers who had sub-1.00 ERAs last year in junior lefty Danny Rafferty and sophomore righty Mike Stephens. Rafferty, who will also be the team's starting left fielder once again, will serve as closer. He is coming off a season in which he averaged nearly two strikeouts per inning and allowed just one earned run in seven appearances. "Danny is good at getting himself ready to pitch, even when he is playing the field," commented Heather about his two-way star. "We just have to plan ahead when going to him." Stephens was nearly as unhittable as Rafferty as the two combined to allow just 14 hits in 29.1 innings. His 0.53 ERA was best on the team as he filled both the setup and closer role as a rookie. One thing that makes Heather excited heading into the year is the ability for the bullpen to match up with opponent lineups. Senior Austin Zimmerman and Stephens both throw from a low angle on the right side, while junior Jack Schoenberger does the same from the left side. Heather also thinks Grabek can be tough on lefties out of the bullpen. Freshman Hunter Robichaux and junior Tommy Gambon are the relievers with the best "stuff ", according to Heather. Gambon

6

2016 Bucknell Baseball

has logged 9.1 innings of work his first two seasons and has nine career strikeouts. Heather is also confident in the abilities of Nolan Brennan, a sophomore lefty who allowed one run over five appearances last spring. CATCHER: A First Team All-Patriot League catcher in 2014, senior Jon Mayer returns for what promises to be a strong final campaign in Orange and Blue. The Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, native is a durable backstop who has four home runs and 57 RBIs in his career while continuing to improve behind the plate. "Jon has been a major contributor the last two years and will need to produce in the middle of our lineup," noted Heather. "Hopefully we can find a way to spell him behind the plate and give him more rest. We are looking for more power from him this year and he showed the ability in the fall. "Jon has been through the battles behind the plate and does a nice job. He has plus arm strength and is probably our guy with the most professional prospects. He is going to play hard and bring energy and toughness to our team." Sophomore Aaron Fritz saw action in 12 games last year with seven starts and he will continue to serve in a reserve role. Heather predicted Fritz will work his way into the lineup on a regular basis partly due to his bat. He hit .280 in limited at bats last spring. Left-handed hitting freshman Evan Klugerman could also see time at catcher, while also possessing the ability to play first base. FIRST BASE: Multiple-year starter Rob Krentzman graduated last year and that has opened a starting spot for senior Spencer Stokes. Heather has tried to get Stokes into the lineup the last few years, but was unable to find an opening. A versatile player, Stokes hit .333 last year while earning starts at first base, left field and designated hitter. "Spencer had a great fall and is primed and ready," said Heather. "He has settled in nicely at first base. It will be nice to keep his bat in the

SECOND BASE: For the third straight year, Joe Ogren is expected to be a key player on the right side of the infield. The senior twotime All-Patriot League selection is entering his fourth year as a starter, having started in right field as a freshman in 2013. The team co-captain was one of three Bison to start all 46 games last spring and he hit a team-best .357 to rank third in the Patriot League. He also ranked in the top 10 in the conference in eight other key offensive statistical categories, including second in both slugging and on-base percentage. "Joe Ogren is one of the best hitters I have coached in my time at Bucknell," mentioned Heather. "He has continued to improve. He was unanimously voted captain this year and has shown leadership on a daily basis. We can always count on him to be ready to play each game. He is a clutch performer, too. We like to see him at bat with the game on the line." Sophomore Luke Johnson, who has the ability to play second, shortstop and third, will be Ogren's primary backup, while graduate student Alex O'Neill and freshman Bruce Keenan will provide depth. "Luke has proven he can play all three infield spots and probably had the best fall of all our infielders," said Heather. "Alex provides us with some experience. He has good defensive mobility and always finds a way to get a clutch hit for us. Bruce can play both middle infield spots. He makes all the plays. He will be in a backup role, but is a consistent player we can count on." SHORTSTOP: Moving from third base to his more natural shortstop position is junior Mark Powell. He was the team's primary starter at third last year, but with the graduation of

Mark Powell

www.BucknellBison.com

Season Outlook two-year shortstop starter Greg Wasikowski, Powell is now penciled in at short. Powell hit .263 with one home run and 15 RBIs a year ago. "Mark had a strong fall and has had two strong summers playing short," noted Heather. "We are looking forward to him being at shortstop on a consistent basis and reaching his full potential." Johnson will be in the mix at shortstop along with Powell, and Keenan will both back up at shortstop as well as second base. THIRD BASE: Junior Sam Clark won the third base spot as a rookie in 2014, but battled some injuries last year and appeared in just 20 games. The left-handed hitter still hit a strong .317 against right-handed pitching while playing mainly at designated hitter. Clark is the frontrunner to play third base this season. Heather wants to make sure his bat stays in the lineup. "Sam is a guy we missed once league play rolled around," mentioned Heather. "He is a big RBI guy and not having him hurt us." Johnson and sophomore Keifer Rawlings will add depth behind Clark. Klugerman can also play third, in addition to catcher and first base. "We have some guys on the infield who can play different positions, and are interchangeable" explained Heather. "We have a lot of leftand right-handed bats, so we can match up where necessary." OUTFIELD: Two-thirds of Bucknell's starting outfield remains the same as last year with Rafferty penciled in left field and junior Brett Smith slated to start in center field. Senior Tommy Pennington is expected to fill an enhanced role as the starting right fielder after serving mainly as a reserve his first three seasons. Rafferty, who has driven in 26 runs over his first two campaigns, is a powerful left-handed hitter who will also serve as the team's closer on the mound. "Danny is going to be a major part of our offense," commented Heather. "He had a nice

fall and is a great outfielder defensively." Smith is a two-year starter in center. He joined the Bison in 2014 and has started all but one game since and has batted leadoff in virtually every contest. He enters the 2016 campaign with a streak of 90 consecutive starts. A Second Team All-Patriot League selection and the Patriot League Rookie of the Year in 2014, Smith saw his average dip a bit last year, but Heather looks for Smith t0o return to the nearly .300 hitter he saw two years ago. "Brett actually hit the ball harder as a sophomore than as a freshman, but he got out more," noted Heather. "He has continued to get stronger, so hopefully more of those go through. He is finding the holes again, has great speed and gives us a great chance to score when he gets on base." Pennington, a team captain, finally gets his opportunity to be a member of the starting lineup on a regular basis. He has played in 54 games with 22 starts over the last three years. "Tommy had a great fall and has solidified himself in right field," said Heather. "He will be a big part of what we do and he helps give us a very good defensive outfield." Sophomore Chuckie Scales, who was the team's primary pinch runner last year, will back up in both left field and center field, while junior Alex Salem and freshman Miles Moore could also see some time in left behind Rafferty. Freshman Jared Drizin and sophomore Mike Korchak will be in the mix in right field along with Pennington. Heather noted that Drizin might be the newcomer with the most potential to contribute in 2016, while Korchak has been working on his defense after mainly pitching and playing at designated hitter a year ago. Korchak has a valuable bat as he hit .290 with one home run and six RBIs in 69 at bats as a rookie. Korchak will be the frontrunner for the DH position, although Clark, Fritz and Johnson are sure to work their way into the lineup there as well.

#34 Scott Heather

Head Coach | 71-76-1 | Fourth Season | Arkansas '03 Scott Heather was named the head coach of the Bucknell baseball program on June 18, 2012, succeeding the retiring Gene Depew. Heather spent the previous eight years as an assistant coach at Bucknell, helping the Bison to a pair of Patriot League Tournament titles and NCAA appearances. It took Heather, the 2014 Patriot League Coach of the Year, just two seasons as head coach to lead the Bison through a successful postseason run. Under Heather's tutelage, Bucknell won the Patriot League regular season and Patriot League Tournament titles in 2014. The Bison advanced to the NCAA Regional at Virginia and posted the second NCAA win in program history, defeating Liberty 5-2 behind a complete game four-hitter from pitcher Dan Weigel. In his three years as head coach, Heather has guided the Bison to a pair of 20-win campaigns and 71 victories overall. Over the last two years Bucknell is a Patriot League-best 55-43-1 (.561) and is the only conference team with back-to-back winning records. A former pitcher at the University of Arkansas, Heather served as the pitching coach during the first eight years of his tenure at Bucknell. The staff had a 4.30 ERA in 2006, marking the team’s lowest since 1983 (4.10). The strong pitching has continued with last year's 3.44 team ERA ranking second in the Patriot League and 73rd nationally. During his tenure as pitching coach, Heather tutored a number of outstanding hurlers, including 2011 Patriot League Pitcher of the Year Ryan Ebner. Additionally, Heather oversaw the development of 2008 graduates Jason Buursma and Mathew Wilson. Those two former Bison claimed back-to-back Patriot League ERA titles, while Buursma earned a pair of First Team All-Patriot League selections as a relief pitcher. Wilson, who was the 2007 Patriot League ERA champion, broke the school record for career shutouts and pitched a complete-game shutout against nationally ranked Florida State in the 2008 NCAA Tournament. Heather has had the opportunity to see Bison pitchers selected in three Major League Baseball Drafts since his arrival in Lewisburg in August 2004. Buursma was drafted in 2007 (42nd round by Seattle Mariners) and 2008 (25th round by St. Louis Cardinals), while Kyle Walter was selected in the 18th round of the 2006 draft by the Toronto Blue Jays. In addition to his duties with the Bucknell pitching staff, Heather served as the program’s recruiting coordinator and assisted with all fundraising projects during his time as a Bison assistant. Prior to his stint as an assistant at Bucknell, Heather served as an assistant coach at Arkansas-Fort Smith from 1999 to 2004. Heather began his playing career at Arizona Western College in Yuma, Ariz., where he was MVP of the 1996 team that was ranked third nationally, before moving on to Arkansas. Heather lettered for the Razorbacks as a pitcher in 1997 and 1998, and then became a student assistant in 1999 when Arkansas won its first Southeastern Conference championship. He also pitched professionally for the Duluth Dukes of the Northern League in 1998. Heather, who earned his degree from Arkansas in 2003, and his wife, Emily, live in nearby Mifflinburg with their daughters, five-year-old Ellie, and Maren (1).

#43 JASON NEITZ

ASSISTANT Coach | SIXTH Season | East Carolina '06 Former professional baseball player Jason Neitz joined the Bucknell staff in the winter of 2011, and in the summer of 2012 he was promoted to top assistant coach under new head coach Scott Heather. A native of nearby Mifflinburg, Pennsylvania, Neitz was drafted in the 37th round of the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft by the San Francisco Giants. Since taking over as Bucknell's pitching coach, Neitz has helped the Bison continue as one of the best pitching teams in the Patriot League by focusing on keeping the ball low and throwing strikes. In 2015, Neitz oversaw a staff that posted an impressive 3.37 ERA, the lowest for a Bucknell squad in nearly 40 years. That figure barely eclipsed the 2014 staff, which registered a 3.44 ERA. The Bison's team ERA has been lowered every year since 2009, with Neitz serving as pitching coach for the most recent three campaigns. A 2002 graduate of Mifflinburg Area High School, Neitz played baseball for four years at East Carolina before graduating in the fall of 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. A left-handed pitcher, Neitz was 3-2 with an ERA of 4.71 in 80.1 career innings over 43 appearances with the Pirates. He recorded 55 strikeouts. Neitz, who serves as Bucknell’s pitching coach, played professionally for four seasons, three in the Giants organization, and most recently one with the Washington Wild Things. Neitz got his start in the coaching profession as an assistant at Mifflinburg Area High School in the spring of 2010.

#39 Matt Busch

ASSISTANT Coach | Third Season | Bucknell '13 A 2013 Bucknell graduate and four-year baseball letterwinner, Matt Busch is part of his alma mater’s baseball staff as a volunteer assistant coach while pursuing a master’s degree in college student personnel. He is in his third year with the Bison in 2016. A Roseville, Minnesota, native, Busch appeared in 83 games, recorded 42 hits and scored 28 runs during his Bucknell career. He was a valuable twoyear starter in the outfield who also served as a pinch runner. Busch, a three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll honoree, was a member of the Academic All-Patriot League Team as a senior and was part of Bucknell’s 2010 Patriot League Tournament championship and NCAA team. Busch has coaching experience as a volunteer instructor at various Bucknell baseball camps the All-Star Baseball Academy in Pennsylvania, Minnesota Twins Youth Baseball Camps, Lovdahl Pitching Academy in Minnesota and with the Roseville, Minnesota, VFW. Busch graduated from Bucknell in May 2013 with a degree in education and psychology and a minor in classics.

#37 Bobby Felmy

ASSISTANT Coach | First Season | Georgia '06 Bobby Felmy is in his first season as an assistant coach at Bucknell in 2016. He spent the previous five years at the high school level as head coach of the nearby Shikellamy Braves in Sunbury, Pennsylvania. Felmy is an accomplished baseball player. He was drafted in the 22nd round of the 2006 Major League Baseball Draft by the San Francisco Giants and went on to play four seasons in their minor league system. He played in the Northwest League (A) for the Salem Keizer Giants, the Southeast League (A) for the Augusta GreenJackets, the California League (A+) for the San Jose Giants, and the Eastern League (AA) for the Connecticut Defenders. As an outfielder, he hit .281 in his minor league career, with 223 RBI and a .410 slugging percentage. He ended his career with a total of 36 home runs and 82 doubles in 429 games. Felmy played collegiately at Georgia Perimeter College and the University of Georgia. While at Georgia Perimeter from 2002-2003, Felmy was named a Second Team NJCAA All-American along with First Team All-District and All-Region honors. Felmy then transferred to Georgia, where he was an outfielder for the Bulldogs from 2003-2006. During his time at UGA, he played in the 2004 and 2006 College World Series and was a part of the 2004 SEC Championship team. A native of Sunbury and a graduate of Shikellamy, Felmy resides in his hometown with his wife, Bria, son, Bobby, and daughter, Baylor.

About More than Bucknell 350 full-time faculty

Plan for Bucknell Bucknell is a unique national university where liberal arts and professional programs complement each other, where 3,500 full-time students are educated for a lifetime of critical thinking and strong leadership. For more than 160 years, the University has remained true to its fundamental purpose: to educate and prepare students for lives that make a difference and have a positive impact on the world. In keeping with that purpose, the University has developed The Plan for Bucknell, which includes its collective vision — “To provide students with the premier undergraduate experience in American higher education.” Students helped shape this vision because of their confidence in the University. The Plan comprises five strategies: Strengthen the Academic Core aims to ensure that a Bucknell education is challenging and engaging, with openness to new ideas and a culture of innovation; Deepen the Residential Learning Experience will provide a residential learning and living experience that complements the academic program, integrates the athletics and recreation program and promotes personal growth and development and civic and ethical responsibility; Enhance Diversity is a commitment to diversity in all its forms within a civil and supportive environment of open exchange to prepare Bucknell graduates to live and work in a globally integrated and intercultural world; Build Bridges will bring the world to Bucknell — through visiting scholars and sports teams, international students and alumni, guest speakers, international focus semesters, and electronic communications — and bring Bucknell to the world through strategic partnerships and community engagement activities as well as opportunities for off-campus study and faculty research; Secure Our Financial Future will secure resources necessary to engage new opportunities, lessen dependence on tuition, and ensure our financial future.

Bucknell Athletics Mission statement The Department of Athletics and Recreation strives to set the standard of excellence for intercollegiate and intramural programs in higher education, thereby advancing and drawing attention to the mission, core values, and educational goals of Bucknell University. The Department believes that student-athletes’ academic programs must be their first priority. It is therefore committed to maintaining Bucknell’s high national ranking for student-athletes’ graduation rates and for producing Academic All-Americans, and to continued leadership of the Patriot League in Academic Honor Roll nominations, based on grade-point averages. The coaches’ and staff ’s paramount responsibility is maintaining academic priorities and supporting student-athletes’ education, even while providing the rigorous and serious NCAA Division I athletic opportunities Bucknell studentathletes seek. Further, the Department promotes the personal growth of student-athletes and the general student body by encouraging personal health, development, and balance among intellectual, social, civic, and physical pursuits; by celebrating challenge and competition; and by preparing participants for service and leadership in the world. Coaches and staff direct a rich array of athletic programs and recreational opportunities aimed at increasing student engagement, as well as strengthening character, healthy living, teamwork, sportsmanship, and spirit. In creating shared experiences for students, faculty, and staff, as well as alumni, family, and friends, the Department’s programs add substantially to Bucknell’s sense of community and foster life-long relationships with Bucknell. The Department embraces the University’s decision to compete at the highest extramural level, in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Division I membership is valuable not only because this level of competition maximally challenges student-athletes, but also because it signals clearly Bucknell’s high standards and seriousness of purpose in all extracurricular endeavors and it helps position Bucknell apart from other National Liberal Arts Colleges. Likewise, the competitive success the Department seeks, measured in part by consistent contention for the Patriot League Presidents’ Cup, reflects positively upon Bucknell’s student-athletes and the University alike, and it brings distinction and national recognition to Bucknell. A student-centered operation, the Department is committed to providing equitable opportunities to women and men, as well as members of minority and majority groups of all kinds. The Department subscribes to, and complies with, all principles and regulations of the Patriot League, the Eastern College Athletic Conference, and the NCAA. The department is proud that so many of today’s exemplary Bison scholar-athletes will be tomorrow’s outstanding leaders.

Patriot League Now in its third decade as an all-sport conference combining academic and athletic excellence, the Patriot League sponsors championships in 24 men and women’s sports. Initially started as an NCAA Division I-AA football conference in 1986, the Patriot League became an all-sport conference in 1990 and includes American, Army, Boston University, Bucknell, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh, Loyola and Navy as full members, and Fordham, Georgetown, MIT and Richmond as associate members. These institutions are among the oldest and most prestigious in the nation and their alumni have and continue to play leadership roles in shaping our country. The Patriot League will celebrate its 25th Anniversary as an all-sport conference during the 201516 season. The Presidents’ Cup The Presidents’ Cup signifies overall excellence in the 24 sports sponsored by the Patriot League, and Bucknell has won the Cup 18 times in its 25-year existence, including 14 of the last 18 years. The Presidents’ Cup is awarded annually to the institution that accumulates the highest point total over the entire academic year, with points awarded on the basis of the school’s finish in each of the 24 Patriot League sports. If there is a league tournament in a sport, the points are awarded based on the average of the regular season and tournament finish, and if there is no post-season tournament, points are awarded based on regular-season standings. As Bison Athletics seeks to create a comprehensive learning environment that meshes with the academic mission of the University, an important element of the complete student-athlete experience is participation in an elite leadership development program designed to identify, develop, challenge and support student-athletes and coaches in their continual quest to become leaders in academics, in athletics and in life. This is the Bucknell Bison Leadership Academy.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM • In the summer of 2011 the Bucknell Department of Athletics & Recreation implemented a formal leadership development program. • Initial workshops were facilitated by the Janssen Sports Leadership Center. • As part of a Patriot League-wide leadership initiative, the program is designed to help student-athletes learn how to be effective leaders on and off the playing fields. • Initially, a group of 60 student-athletes were identified as members. These workshops for both student-athletes and their coaches have set the stage for ongoing programming that will encompass the Bucknell Bison Leadership Academy. GOALS FOR THE LEADERSHIP ACADEMY • Identify and develop high potential leaders in their sophomore or junior years • Help young best athletes become best leaders • Create strong leaders by example and set the stage for developing vocal leaders • Build a strong peer support network for aspiring leaders • Develop leaders who support and learn from current team captains/leaders • Practice leading self, their class, and below • Succession Planning — smoothly replace graduating leaders • Encourage veteran leaders to step up and be vocal leaders • Establish a solid, cooperative and ongoing partnership with the coaching staff • Teach and apply the insights and skills necessary to be a responsible and respected leader • Provide veteran leaders with ongoing coaching and support as they tackle the tough issues of team leadership • Provide veteran leaders with a solid peer network for guidance and support • Provide veteran leaders with highly marketable leadership skills for a lifetime
