Residents may experience a brief discoloration of the water during this period, but this is temporary. Care should be taken to ensure clear water before doing laundry. Notice of Sewer Main Construction — As part of the Town of Berthoud Wastewater Replacement Project, the sewer main in the alley between Fourth and Fifth streets, from Massachusetts to Capital is being upgraded. This project started Monday, Aug. 5 and will run through approximately Sept. 13. Construction of this project will require that the alley will be closed for this period of time. Intersecting east/west streets will also be closed for periods of time during the construction. Deliveries and trash pick-up should be on Fourth & Fifth Streets, not the alley, during construction. Your sewer service will not be interrupted while the project is being completed. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Community Partnering 2014 grant cycle begins Larimer County Natural Resources Department announces the opening of the 2014 Small Grants for Community Partnering grant cycle. Applications are due Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at 3 p.m., with awards announced by February 2014. These grants are offered to individuals, organizations and groups, and homeowner or property owner associations for community, neighborhood and group projects for: Protection or enhancement of open space, trails, natural areas, wildlife habitat, river areas and wetlands on private or public land, agriculture, increased access to open lands and natural areas, and research on open spaces. Designated areas in unincorporated Larimer County that are north of the city limits will be sprayed on Aug. 19. The mosquito spraying will be performed during the hours of 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. on these nights. Due to the nature of this public health spraying, shutoff requests will not be honored this time. Human West Nile virus cases escalating rapidly in Larimer County A rapid increase this week in reported human cases of West Nile disease reflects the significant rise in West Nile virus-infected mosquitoes during the second and third week of July. So far in Larimer County there are 12 WNV human cases reported, including four severe (neuroinvasive) cases, three from the Fort Collins area and one from the Loveland area. Neuroinvasive cases include meningitis, encephalitis and paralysis. Case reports are expected to continue to rise from infections that have already occurred but have not yet been diagnosed or reported. Historically (2003-2012), Larimer County has had one of the highest rates of neuroinvasive WNV disease in the nation.
