Large 8vo, in the publisher’s original gray-blue cloth, the upper covers with large yellow emblems of the Russian Imperial Eagle and hammer and sickle in black, the spines lettered in black with yellow decoration. xi, 511; ix 556 pp. A nice set of these impressive tomes, internally quite fine though a page of the table of contents in Vol.I has been torn and neatly repaired with library tape, a much smaller repair to the half title, otherwise the books are very well preserved. The front hinge to Vol. II with cosmetic splitting of the paper at the join but no loss of firmness. The cloth is quite fresh, a touch of rubbing to the bottom edge and a hit of general mellowing. FIRST EDITION OF THE AUTHOR’S BEST WORK, his history of the Russian Revolution was written while living in Russia between 1922 and 1934. Initially, the author’s sympathies were with the Soviets, but he gradually turned anti-communist while living in the Soviet Union. Chamberlin continued to write books about the Cold War, Communism, and American Foreign Policy. $140.

Small 8vo, in contemporary full mottled calf, the spine with elaborate gilt decoration including gilt tooled flat bands, fanciful gilt tooled compartments and gilt lettering. vi, 304 pp. A surprisingly well preserved example of this scarce early political biography, the text with far less foxing and toning than is normally found on American imprints of this period.
