“The Earth’s biosphere seems almost magically suited to human beings and indeed it is, for we evolved through eons of intimate immersion within it. We cannot live long or well without a functioning biosphere, and so it is worth everthing we have.” - Joseph Guth

white springs community revitalization White Springs is located off Interstate 75, north of Lake City. It was once a popular tourist location for presidents, camping enthusiasts, and families. The proximity of the Suwannee River gave White Springs an ideal source of income; it fueled businesses, community interactions, and the natural ecosystems surrounding the river. Currently fading in the highway of progression, White Springs is looking for ways to bring more revenue to its economy. Using the Sawannee River as an amenity, and the inflow of people from Interstate 75, White Springs plans to develop a new community that encourages ecotourism, sustainable living, and respect for the natural environment.

university oasis In the midst of fast-paced college life, the design for the University Oasis facilitates rest, where students can find their own moment of pause and recharge their energies. The oasis directs pedestrian traffic through its most utilized paths, and gives its users a chance to rest and ponder.

Nothing is more important to humans than an ecologically functioning, life-sustaining biosphere on Earth. Earth’s complexity and richness allow us to call her home, but life for many is quickly becoming increasingly hard. Public access to nature is less available to the people, and we face very difficult environmental issues and design challenges that inhibit a good quality of life for future generations. The contemporary human crisis is leading us from the hopes and ideas that stimulated our political and economic progress. Clearly we must influence our culture to become inclusive, meaning greater clarity and articulation, and greater richness and complexity in expression. Our major objective is the establishment of good relations between the physical forms of nature and the physical manifestations of man in the landscape. Johan Andres Bueno
