WELCOME TO BPO SUMMERFEST 2021!

We’ve been holding our breath for the opportunity to return to local parks and venues and perform for our neighbors in the community spaces of Western New York. The long-standing tradition of concerts in the parks is an opportunity to meet and mingle with family and friends to celebrate our region in the company of outstanding musicians providing extraordinary performances. After the disappointment of last year’s pause in our summer schedule, we’re excited to introduce a new format at our Olmsted Park concert series featuring the BPO Brass, including trumpeters Alex Jokipii, Geoff Hardcastle and Phil Christner; trombonists Jonathan Lombardo, Tim Smith, and Filipe Pereira; and Daniel Kerdelewicz and Jay Matthews on French horn, with Dinesh Joseph on percussion. The genesis of this past concert season allowed us to explore the world-class talent of our musicians in unique ways, and we hope you were able to participate in our BPOnDemand events, BPO Out of the Box presentations, and our musician profiles in collaboration with WNED, to name just a few. Now, with the world re-opening, we’re taking note of our recent innovations and exploring how we can continue to incorporate them into our traditional offerings. Speaking of tradition, in addition to our new partnership with Buffalo Olmsted Park Conservancy performing at Riverside Park, South Park, Front Park, Cazenovia Park, Martin Luther King, Jr. Park, and Delaware Park, we’re pleased to return to several of our tried-and-true locations at Clarence Town Park, Niawanda Park, Bassett Park, M&T Plaza, Ellicottville Summer Music Festival, and Old Fort Niagara. And for those of you with a little wanderlust, Escape is at Hand for the Travellin’ Man when your BPO visits Batavia Downs to reunite with The Strictly Hip and perform the Music of The Tragically Hip. Of course, it wouldn’t be a ‘sunsational’ summer without the introduction of our spectacular 2021-22 season. We’ve included several pages in this book teasing the master composers, swinging tributes, and special events you can expect as we return to Kleinhans Music Hall. We hope to see you there!
