Homecoming parade set for Saturday Additional alumni events planned throughout day By ENTERPRiSE STAFF news@enterprisepublications.com @PlainfieldNews

The 64th annual Plainfield Community Homecoming Parade will take place Sept. 26 at 9 a.m. in downtown Plainfield. The parade will start at Van Dyke Road and Lockport Street. It will then travel east on Lockport and go south on Illinois Street. After that, it will head west on Commercial Street and south on James Street, where it will end at Fort Beggs Drive. Grand marshals for the parade are Bill and Linda Hanley, whose children attended District 202 schools. The parents of five were extremely involved in the school community, and their children attended Central Elementary, Indian Trail and Plainfield Central. Due to their volunteerism and activity in the community, the couple was chosen as grand marshals for this year’s parade. For future years, residents are encouraged to nominate candidates for parade grand marshal by emailing phsalumniassoc@ comcast.net with the reasons why they feel the candidate is deserving. The candidate will then be added to the list of nominees for Homecoming 2016. Plainfield police said that the event is expected to cause congestion and delays around Plainfield, especially by Plainfield Central. “Unless participating in or viewing the parade, motorists are asked to avoid the downtown area on [Sept. 26] between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and noon due to slower traffic movement and road closures,” police said.
