Route 59 Auto is seeking a special-use permit to relocate its current Renwick Road location (above) to this vacant lot on Fraser Road, just west of Route 59.

Several years ago, District 202 developed a late start option as part of its overall school closing plan. According to District 202 Director of Community Relations Tom Hernandez, the idea behind a late start was to be able to open school two hours later – rather than close school altogether -- when the weather was bad, but not terrible, or if it looked like the weather might improve early in the school day. The late start option is gone effective immediately. However, after further study this fall, it is clear that a late start schedule will not work for District 202 any longer. The reason behind this is because of two significant transportation-related challenges; the triple-tier busing system and the many out-of-district and off-site educational programs serving District 202 students. Hernandez added that when you factor in the size of District 202, it is nearly impossible to make a late start schedule work. Hernandez also wanted to assure that District 202 will do its best to close school only when necessary for the safety of our students and staff, based on the best information available at the time. Students and parents should plan for school to always be open. If school is closed, notification will be sent through the Connect-ED system, websites and the local and regional broadcast and print media. Hernandez added that the actual time of notification will depend on the weather, conditions, etc. “We’re not going to notify at 4 p.m. the day before only to have the weather be clear at midnight,” he said.
