A former Plainfield Park District employee who accused two district officials of retribution for labor union activity has received a settlement from the district. More than a month ago, the Illinois Labor Relations Board found the district violated labor law for reportedly harassing and later firing employee Joel Schumaker, who attempted to recruit another employee into the union. AFSCME Council 31 filed the complaint on his behalf. As part of its decision, the labor relations board ordered the district to rescind its decisions regarding Schumaker and reinstate his employment. The draft of the resolution authorizing a settlement agreement states: “The district denies that it took any action against Mr. Schumaker or any other employee due to their participation in protected activities and also denies that it violated the Illinois Labor Relations Act in any way.” Details of the settlement, obtained by the Enterprise under the Freedom >> see labor | page 2
