he long-closed Clark Auto and Truck Plaza still stands – at least for now. About five years ago, a “lifestyle mall” called The Boulevard – a type of shopping center featuring big box-style stores, restaurants and shops among pedestrian-friendly walkways – was planned for the site along U.S. 30 and just west of Interstate 55 in Joliet. But The Boulevard has yet to be built. So the old truck stop just sits there looking shabby. Although Joliet City Councilman Larry Hug has fielded complaints about the property, the city of Joliet isn’t insisting the buildings be razed. That’s because the land could be redeveloped fairly soon, Joliet City Manager Tom Thanas said April 1.The owner would like to keep the existing buildings so they could be used as staging See UN-PRETTY, page 2
