Will County Board leaders on May 8 decided the full board needs to weigh in on adding language to confirm when Land Use employees use aerial photography in zoning cases. The issue was thought to be dead after the board’s Judicial Committee on May 6 rejected the proposed amendment to the county’s Administrative Adjudication Ordinance. The new language, agreed upon by the committee during a vote a few seconds earlier, read: “The Land Use Department and its personnel are prohibited from using aerial photography to initiate Land Use complaints of an ordinance violation.” County Board Member Steve Balich, R-Homer Township, who has pushed for the resolution nearly since he took office in December 2012, said later he was shocked at the Judicial Committee’s vote. “In December, (the language) passed through a joint committee comprised of the Land Use and Judicial committees before going to public hearing, and no one seemed to have a problem with it.
