By kris stadalsky FOR THE ENTERPRISE Sunday was the perfect day for the Plainfield Harvest 5K run. Jenna VanGilder, race starter and Administrative Director of Edward Plainfield, said it well: “It’s a Chamber of Commerce day,” VanGilder said, as the runners readied at the start line. It was the 16th annual run for the Plainfield Area Chamber of Commerce, and the 10th annual with Edward Hospital as the title sponsor, said Chamber event organizer Davy Jones. “It’s grown into quite an event,” Jones said. “We’ve added the kids’ race, an after party and corporate challenge event.” Proceeds from last year’s race resulted in the Chamber giving away $25,000 to local charities, Jones said. “We hope to equal or exceed that this year,” he said. The kids hit the pavement for their one-mile run at 8 a.m. A group of young friends ran together. The race was so close, 11-year-old Alyssa Grigg, prior to hearing the official results, thought she had taken second or third place. “We’ve done the race every year,” said Grigg, as she and her friends enjoyed free TCBY yogurt. “We run for our school, and they try to get us all to do it.”
