Everybody needs a teddy bear some time. Caley Trepac, who is 16 and a junior at Plainfield South high school, has 154 bears, dogs, unicorns and storybook dolls in just about every color of the rainbow. And Caley has been giving the animals away to kids who are pediatric patients in Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. See the full story on page 8

The president of the Plainfield Teachers Association told village officials Nov. 3 the district loses teachers every year, in part, because the district doesn’t have the tax base to support them. Dawn Bullock, Plainfield Teachers Association president, said at Monday’s village board meeting the district loses 150 teachers each year because of salary and workload issues. “We train them, and then we lose them to higher salaried districts,” she said. Bullock said her concern was not enough commercial businesses in Plainfield. “What we do have is Mom and Pop Main Street mentality,” she said. Brian Murphy, village administrator, said he was upset to hear Bullock’s comments because the school district covers other municipalities in addition to the village of Plainfield. “We represent 30 percent of Plainfield school kids,” he said. “I am proud of what we have done so far to attract good businesses and over 500 jobs. We have a strong commitment to bring in commercial businesses.”
