A sea of people in purple packed Plainfield Central Saturday afternoon as cancer survivors, caregivers and team members came together to celebrate life at Relay For Life. The event began with opening remarks and exercises that allowed present survivors, ranging from zero to five years without cancer all the way to 20-plus years, to turn and face their hope before the relay began. The ceremony also noted caregivers and the community around those with cancer and
their importance. The survivors lap kicked off the relay, calling for all survivors to celebrate their victory over cancer as onlookers and caregivers cheered them on. Alisha Clements, who had Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia, was on crutches at the event and has been cancer free for 14 years. Clements also helped to organize a Relay event at Central Michigan University, which she attends, helping to raise $60,728 to fight cancer.
