‘This was an attack of evil’ - Brent Bahnub
editor’s note: Brent Bahnub, son-in-law of Liz Collins of plainfield, wrote this after the sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Collins’ memories, as well as those of her daughter, Jodie, follow.

Eighteen contestants cooked baby back ribs in their own style over hot coals and then served them up to the judges and the public. The afternoon-long event was held to raise money for “I Am Me” burn camp, a beloved charity of many fire departments including Plainfield Fire Protection District. “It’s nice because we do this in conjunction with the Plainfield Fire Department, and they have a good cause,” said Katie O’Connors’ bar manager Eric Yevin, who helped organize the second annual event.

While we were admiring the view, I quietly explained what the terrorists attempted in 1993. I explained the attempt to topple WTC 1 (the tower with the antennae) into WTC 2. Back then, the hotel was not a Marriott, but an independent hotel named “The Vista.” After checking into the hotel, I sent Jodie back to our hometown of Cleveland. At 8:00 a.m.Tuesday, I walked into the bottom of WTC 1 – just passing through, as usual – on my way to the PATH train to New Jersey. My client, American Express, was the primary occupant of a 51-story tower (the Amex Tower) in the World Financial Center (WFC). The WFC is located across the street from the WTC and connected by a third-story walkway. A few of the American Express personnel including my project team were located on the New Jersey side of the Hudson River.
