The university’s Division of Continuing and Distance Education serves students through nondegree credit courses, noncredit minicourses, off-campus classes, credit for life experience and distance learning courses on public television. The Town of Bloomsburg, located in the Susquehanna River Valley, has a population of about 12,000 people. The central business district is just three blocks southwest of campus, and includes more than 80 retail stores, restaurants, and the Bloomsburg Fair in September. More stores, restaurants and theaters can be found along nearby Route 11 and at the Columbia Mall, northwest of town.

The Nelson Field House, located on Bloomsburg University’s upper campus, serves as home for the university’s indoor athletic events. The facility, constructed in 1971, underwent a $13.4 million dollar facelift in 2007-09. Among the renovations to the field house were a new bleacher system for the main gym area, a new scoreboard, a new wrestling room on the lower level of the facility, a new and expanded press box, dedicated locker rooms for each sport, including an expanded football locker room, improved office space and additional storage space. In addition the pool area has been completely renovated with improved lighting, new bleachers, new starting blocks, improved timing system and record board. The project also enhanced both the upper and lower entrances that will showcase the awards the teams have won over the last three decades. The project was completed in August of 2009. Bloomsburg women’s basketball has been extremely successful at home in recent years - since the 1999-2000 season, the Huskies are 134-70 (.657) at home. Under head coach Bill Cleary, the Huskies are 66-20 (.767) at home including a 58-12 (.829) mark since the 2009-10 season.

By Scott Eddy, Assistant Sports Information Director Last spring, the Bloomsburg University women’s basketball team was one of the last 16 teams left playing in Division II, reaching the Sweet 16 and a spot in the Atlantic Regional Championship Game. With four starters and 11 players returning from that squad, the Huskies have high hopes of following in the footsteps of recent BU teams which have had the ability of taking one more step forward from one season to the next. Three years ago, the Huskies first reached the NCAA Tournament; the following year Bloomsburg captured the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championship before last year’s edition made one of the deepest postseason runs in school history, ultimately finishing with a 26-5 record. “We’ve been able to take one more step each year,” head coach Bill Cleary said. “There’s that bitter taste in our mouth of how last season ended. There’s a lot of motivation; a feeling of some unfinished business.”

intact. Add in the arrival of three potential impact newcomers and depth could be the team’s biggest strength. While that means the lineup might be up in the air, it’s a good problem for the coaching staff to have. “This might be the deepest team we’ve had here. We don’t have a set rotation yet because everyone is pushing,” Cleary said. “We have some tough decisions because our players are giving us everything they have.” The Huskies were selected second in the PSAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll, taking five first-place votes, the most of any team. West Chester took four first-place votes and ranked No. 1 while Shippensburg, Millersville and East Stroudsburg completed the top five. Bloomsburg will challenge itself right off the bat with a difficult non-conference game to begin the season against Northeast-10 member New Haven on Nov. 14 in Nelson Field House. Here’s a look at the 2014-15 Huskies roster:

While last year’s team came up four minutes short of a regional championship following wins over nationally ranked Virginia State and Glenville State before a tough defeat at the hands of Edinboro, there was much to be celebrated – the highest final national ranking in over 20 years (No. 14), a fourth consecutive outright PSAC East title; the deepest postseason run for the school since 2001; a 17-game winning streak and the second-most victories in school history among them.

BACKCOURT Jocelyn Ford earned a spot on the PSAC East Preseason All-Conference Team this fall and with good reason – a tremendously versatile player, Ford played every position for the Huskies last season. Her 2013-14 stat line is reflective of her all-around game: Ford averaged 12.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.8 steals per game while receiving second team PSAC East honors. She also ranked fourth in the PSAC last year in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.8).

Though two very important parts of last year’s team have graduated – leading scorer Catherine Noack, the top three-point shooter in the nation last season, and do-it-all guard Brianna Dudeck – the core of that squad remains

This season, she will take on added leadership responsibility in her senior season with a chance to be one of the region’s top players. “I really do think she wants that responsibility and is ready to take it on this year,” Cleary said. “She sees things three, four steps ahead.” Sophomore Morgan Klunk made an impressive Huskies debut a season ago, starting 25 of 29 games played while recording 6.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.4 steals per game despite playing out of her natural position. Called upon to play point guard last year, Klunk will likely shift to the wing this fall while focusing on improving her all-around game in her second collegiate season. Senior guard Marla Simmons has the most experience in a Huskies uniform of any player on this year’s roster – 93 games with 25 starts – and is the team’s strongest defender, according to her head coach. Simmons directs traffic well and has added a strong preseason in effort to improve allaround. She started 25 of 31 games last year, averaging 6.5 points and 4.4 rebounds in nearly 25 minutes per game. Junior Taylor Kaminski will battle for a starting role at point guard after taking great strides late last season. “From January on last year she was a really huge factor in us having the season we did,” Cleary said. Kaminski is strong attacking the basket and uses her long arms to create trouble for opponents on the defensive end of the court. Among the team’s assists leaders despite averaging 12.7 minutes per game last year, she tallied a careerhigh 10 points in the first round of the NCAA Tournament vs. Virginia State last March. From late January through the end of the season, she played less than 10 minutes just

once and could continue to see her role grow this fall. Lauren Nealon, a 5-10 junior, brings an ability to shoot from the perimeter as well as strong positioning and rotations defensively. Nealon saw action in 25 games a season ago. Nicole Southcott, the reigning PSAC Championship Scholar, also returns for her third season in the program after seeing time in 10 games last year in a reserve role. Sophomore Alex Ross saw action in 10 games as a freshman and has progressed during preseason in effort to carve a bigger role. Senior Maggie Borski averaged 5.9 points, 3.9 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game and was among the PSAC’s leaders in assist-to-turnover ratio last season but will miss the year due to injury. FRONT COURT Redshirt junior Adreana Sadowski enjoyed a breakout campaign last season and is the Huskies’ leading returning scorer after recording 13.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per night while starting all 31 games. She also finished the year ranked second in the PSAC in field goal percentage, shooting over 57 percent from the floor. Sadowski likely opened many eyes around the conference after averaging only 2.6 points in 18 games during the 2012-13 season. Her shotblocking ability, as well as ability to alter shots, is also key to the Huskies - she was third in the conference in blocks with 45 last year. “We want to see her continue to do those things, but we feel she can be a bigger threat defensively off the ball,” Cleary said, also adding that Sadowski has worked on becoming more aggressive in the post, particularly in terms of rebounding. 2014-15 Huskies Basketball

Senior Nikki Tamanosky also played big minutes in multiple key games last year and brings strength inside as well as rebounding ability after playing in 27 games with four starts in 2013-14.

“There really is a sense of family. That’s always been a staple of the program,” Cleary added.

NEWCOMERS Cleary hasn’t tried to hide his excitement about this year’s trio of newcomers. “We are very excited about the players coming in this year,” he said. “Very, very excited.” It isn’t often that teams can count a player with four years of experience, including NCAA Tournament background, as one of its newcomers, but that’s the case with the Huskies and transfer guard Taylor Maldonado. Using her graduate year of eligibility following last season when she played just three games due to injury, Maldonado arrives from Florida Southern College. An instant threat to start at point guard, she averaged 7.5 points per game in 24 games during 2011-12 and 11.4 points per game in 12 contests in 2012-13. She scored a career-high 26 points against No. 3 Clayton State last November, but injuries have been a recurring issue during her collegiate career. “She’s a true leader and tireless worker,” Cleary said. “She is a true point guard and a tenacious defender.” Two freshmen also join the roster – Camden Boehner and Morgan Thomas. Boehner brings an ability to beat defenders off the dribble and strong vision of the court and arrives at Bloomsburg after a 1,000-point career at Gettysburg Area High School. Thomas, meanwhile, is an aggressive defender who can hit mid-range jumpers and was also a 1,000-point scorer at Eastern York High. SEASON OUTLOOK With four straight PSAC East crowns, the Huskies will again bring a bit of a bull’s eye with them into the new season. There is a crowd of contenders as much of the league’s top talent returns this fall. “The East is a tough division. Every team in our league has given us a run for our money,” Cleary said. “We’ve 10

With so many returning faces, one area where the Huskies should draw strength from right away is their chemistry.

The past three years have stretched into the month of March – a time the Huskies again hope to be at their best. “We’re not talking about getting back to the regional championship, we are talking about taking care of our first scrimmage. We just look at our next day and go from there,” Cleary assessed. “At the end of the day, we have fun and play for each other. We only care about the name that is on the front of the jersey – we don’t care about who gets the accolades, just getting the win.” After the season-opener vs. New Haven, the Huskies open PSAC East play at Cheyney on Nov. 19 before home dates vs. Shippensburg (Nov. 22) and a regional championship re-match in non-conference action vs. Edinboro on Nov. 25.

Head Coach 7th Season at Bloomsburg Career Record: 181-135 (.573) Record at BU: 125-50 (.714)

Bill Cleary will begin his seventh season as head coach of the Bloomsburg University women’s basketball team in 2014-15. In his six seasons as head coach, Cleary has guided the Huskies to an overall record of 125-50 (.714), including 98-23 (.810) over the past four seasons as well as three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, the longest run for the school since making four straight appearances from 1989-92. The 98 wins tie the winningest four-year period in Bloomsburg women’s basketball history. Cleary came to Bloomsburg after spending five seasons as the head coach of the women’s team at Wilmington University in New Castle, Delaware, where he turned around the struggling program by leading the team from two wins the season prior to his arrival to a school-record 22 wins in 2007-08. In 2013-14, the Huskies won their fourth straight outright PSAC East title despite losing five of their six leading scorers from the previous year to graduation. In doing so, Bloomsburg became the first squad to win four consecutive outright Eastern Division titles since the Huskies achieved the feat from 1988-91. At the end of the regular season, Cleary was honored with his second PSAC East Coach of the Year award. 12

The Huskies made their deepest postseason run since 2001, reaching the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Championship Game and a spot in the national Sweet Sixteen after knocking off nationally-ranked Virginia State and Glenville State, the top-seeded team in the region, in the first and second rounds. Bloomsburg ended its season with a national ranking of No. 14, the highest spot for the Huskies in the final WBCA USA Today Sports Top 25 since 1990-91. The 2013-14 edition of the Huskies set school records for points scored (2,363), assists (569) and free throw percentage (77.6). Senior Catherine Noack was named PSAC East Athlete of the Year and also was named to the Daktronics Atlantic Region first team as well as the WBCA and Division II Bulletin All-America honorable mention teams after setting the PSAC record for three-point percentage in a season (49.5%). During the year, the Huskies ran off a 17-game winning streak, the third-longest in school history, while finishing the season at 265. The 26 victories tie the 2011-12 and 1990-91 teams for the second-most victories in school history behind only the 28 wins of the 1988-89 squad. As head coach of Bloomsburg University women’s basketball team, Cleary has guided the Huskies to one PSAC championship, three NCAA tournament appearances and four PSAC Eastern Division titles. He also recruited and coached two-time PSAC Eastern Division Athlete of the Year Kelsey Gallagher. Cleary also recruited and coached Dana Wieller, who along with Gallagher would earn PSAC Eastern Division Rookie of the Year honors. During his six years at

Bloomsburg, Cleary has recruited and coached four 1,000 point scorers in Noack, Gallagher, Wieller and Kayla Oxenrider. During the 2012-13 season, Cleary guided the Huskies a third straight PSAC Eastern Division title and PSAC Championship for the second time in school history with a 74-57 win over nationally-ranked Gannon University. In winning the conference championship, Bloomsburg advanced to the NCAA tournament for the second straight year. It was the first time since 1989-92 seasons that the team had made consecutive trips to the NCAA tournament. The Huskies were ranked fifth nationally among 287 women’s basketball programs in NCAA Division II in scoring margin, winning its contests by an average of 16.6 points per game. Bloomsburg defense also limited its opponents to the ninth lowest field goal percentage in Division II, as opponents shot just 34 percent for the season. Wieller and Oxenrider were both named All-PSAC that season. In 2011-12 Cleary brought the women’s basketball program to new heights, guiding the Huskies to the second most wins in school history with a 26-6 record. He coached the Huskies to their second consecutive PSAC East title, their first PSAC Championship appearance in 20 years, as well as their first NCAA playoff appearance in 20 years. The Huskies were also ranked 25th nationally, their first national ranking in 10 seasons. Gallagher repeated as PSAC East Athlete of the Year, along with a second team Daktronics All-Region selection and Women’s Division II Bulletin AllAmerican third team honors. Wieller

was named to the All-PSAC East first team, while Oxenrider picked up second team accolades. In 2010-11, Cleary led the Huskies a 22-6 record, including winning the PSAC Eastern Division title and a post-season game for the first time since the 2000-01 season. The success earned Cleary PSAC East Coach of the Year honors. Gallagher was named the Athlete of the Year in the PSAC East, along with second team Daktronics All-Region and Women’s Division II Basketball Bulletin (WDIIB) honorable mention All-American. In 2009-10, Cleary coached Bloomsburg to the PSAC playoffs for the first time since 2004-05, with Dana Wieller being named PSAC Eastern Division Rookie of the Year. During Cleary’s first season with the Huskies in 2008-09, he led the team to 11 wins, with Gallagher being named PSAC Eastern Division Rookie of the Year. The 11 wins were the first time in four years the team had won 10 or more games. As head women’s basketball coach at Wilmington, he helped turnaround the Wildcats’ program from a two-win team into a 20win team with a record over his final four seasons of 54-60. During his final season in 2007-08, Wilmington finished 22-9 and the Wildcats won the school’s first ever women’s basketball championship when the team won the ECAC Division II championship. That season, Wilmington was ranked in the NCAA Northeast Regional poll for the first time in school history, including ending the season with a ninth-place ranking. Prior to taking over at Wilmington, Cleary spent one season as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Towson University (MD) and two years as a men’s basketball graduate assistant at Georgia Tech under Paul Hewitt. While at Georgia Tech, Cleary also earned his Master’s Degree in Sports Administration. Cleary is a 1998 graduate of Villanova University with a degree in Political Science. He and his wife Jackie are the parents of two boys, Billy and Chase.

Diane Decker Assistant Coach • 7th Season at Bloomsburg

Diane Decker enters her seventh season as an assistant coach with the Bloomsburg University women’s basketball team in 2014-15. She has helped the Huskies to a 98-23 (.810) record over the past four seasons as well as three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, the longest run for the school since making four straight appearances from 198992. The 98 wins tie the winningest four-year period in Bloomsburg women’s basketball history. Decker came to Bloomsburg after spending three seasons at East Stroudsburg as an assistant coach. In 2007-08 Decker served as the acting head coach for the Warriors and posted a record of 12-15, 6-6 PSAC East earning a spot in the PSAC playoffs as the fourth seed from the Eastern Division. During her three seasons with the Warriors the team made the PSAC playoffs each year and in 2006-07 achieved the first 20-win season in 12 years. Prior to East Stroudsburg, Decker spent three years as head coach at Freedom High School in Bethlehem, where she guided the Patriots to the District XI playoffs each season. In three years she led the team to a record of 8215 and coached two 1,000-point scorers. Decker was a standout player at Marian Catholic High School and Villanova University. The Wildcats played in the NCAA Tournament all four years during her college career, including her sophomore season when they went to the Sweet 16. She was a second team All-Big East selection in 1989 and helped the Wildcats capture the Big East championship in both 1987 and 1988. She also served as team captain her senior year. 14

At Marian Catholic High School, the Mahanoy City native set the school scoring record with over 2,300 points and also grabbed 1,000 rebounds and was selected honorable mention All-American by both Converse and USA Today. Marian Catholic won a state title and two district championships during her career, and she was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame in 2006.
