MATCH UP: In the second week of PSAC divisional play, Bloomsburg hosts the Warriors of East Stroudsburg University. In a series dating back to 1907, the Warriors lead 43-36-2 all-time, but the Huskies have won the last four. Bloomsburg is 18-22-1 against East Stroudsburg in home games. THE HEAD COACHES: Huskies coach Danny Hale (West Chester ‘68) is in his 18th year at the helm of the Bloomsburg program. With the Huskies, he has a 147-50-1 (.745) record and has the most wins in school history. For his career, Hale is 187-63-1 and his winning percentage of .747 is ranked among the top 10 active coaches in Division II and top 20 D-II coaches all-time. Hale has led BU to six playoff appearances, including the latest in 2008. He has been honored as the PSAC East Coach of the Year 10 times, the AFCA Regional Coach of the Year nine times, and was named the AFCA National Coach of the Year following the 2000 season. Warriors coach Denny Douds is the all-time winningest coach in the history of the PSAC, amassing a record of 227-149-3 (.603) over the last 37 seasons at East Stroudsburg. He is one of only five Division II coaches to have over 200 victories in his career. A native of Indiana, Pa., Douds was a high-school coach in Erie and later an assistant at West Virginia University before taking a position at ESU in 1966. Under Douds’ leadership, the Warriors have captured nine PSAC Eastern Division titles and have made four NCAA tournament appearances. SCOUTING EAST STROUDSBURG: (Courtesy Matt Beltz, PSAC) East Stroudsburg boasts a senior quarterback in Matt Marshall and a pair of experienced wideouts in seniors Jeff Giglio and Ed Kiser as it attempts to duplicate its NCAA playoff appearance from last season. Once again, the strength of the Warrior offense should be in its passing game behind Marshall, who was second in the PSAC in total offense and third in passing yards last year. He returns for his second year as a starter in addition to Giglio and Kiser, who combined for over 80 catches and 1,400 receiving yards last year. Both also are big-play threats on special teams. The East Stroudsburg running game produced 135 yards per game last year, its highest output since 2005. Starter Zack Krise completed just four games but still finished as the team’s leading running back. He is gone this year but trie sophomores Kendrick Williams and Eric Deery got a chance to receive significant playing time after Krise went down last year and the duo combined for over 700 yards. With four starters on the offensive line returning, the Warriors may look for a more balanced offensive attack. The Warriors’ defense ranked in the lower half of the PSAC in yards allowed last year but in the upper half in points allowed, mainly due to its league high 33 turnovers gained. ESU will be a bit thin on experience on the defensive line with just one starter returning but its starting linebackers are very experienced - three seniors and one junior - and will be relyed upon heavily to lead the defense. That group is led by senior Matt Freed, who has led the PSAC in tackles in each of the last two seasons, led the league in sacks and tackles for loss last year, and is coming off two straight All-American campaigns. The outside of the secondary is also high on experience, with David Castillo and Shawnte Carroll set to start at cornerback. That group will lead a secondary that co-led the PSAC in interceptions last year with 18.

LAST MEETING #5 Bloomsburg 27, East Stroudsburg 13 October 10, 2009 EAST STROUDSBURG--Tailback Derrick Price carried 23 times for 165 yards and one score to lead the No. 5 Huskies to a 27-13 win over East Stroudsburg in a PSAC Eastern Division matchup. East Stroudsburg jumped in front on its second possession of the game when Drew Reinhard connected on a 26-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead for the Warriors. The Huskies responded on their second drive going 57 yards in 13 plays and getting a 26-yard field goal from Jon Koenig. The Warriors went back on top 6-3 in the second quarter with a drive set up by an interception of Huskies quarterback Dan Latorre. ESU drove inside the Huskies 20-yard line, but a sack of Marshall by Bloomsburg’s Thomas McFarland forced the Warriors to settle for a 40-yard field goal by Reinhard. Bloomsburg answered on its ensuing drive, needing just three plays to go 67 yards. Kenny Domzalski started the drive with a 38-yard run and Latorre finished it with a 29-yard scoring pass to Cory Stiger making it 10-6 at the half. Bloomsburg made it 13-6 on the opening drive of the third period as Koenig hit a 49yard field goal to extend BU’s lead. On the kickoff, ESU’s Jeff Giglio fumbled with Ryan Sanders recovering for Bloomsburg at the East Stroudsburg 39-yard line. Three plays later, Price ran 27-yards for a score making it 20-6. East Stroudsburg responded on its next series with Marshall throwing a 27-yard scoring pass to Sam Shuman making it 20-13 midway through the third. In the fourth quarter, the Huskies clinched the game when Domzalski followed a 59-yard Price rush with a a 28-yard scoring run with 4:15 left to play. Bloomsburg East Stroudsburg

Bloomsburg University Football Game Notes

HONORABLE MENTION: For the second time this season, redshirt freshman Franklyn Quiteh was named PSAC Eastern Division Offensive Player of the Week. Against Millersville, Quiteh notched his second 200-yard rushing performance of the year and third of 100 yards or more. The Tobyhanna native carried the ball 22 times for a career-high 223 yards (10.1 ypc) and two touchdowns, scoring on runs of 25 and 2 yards. Quiteh had 186 yards at halftime and only played half of the third quarter, making his longest run of the day with a 67-yard gain on Bloomsburg’s first play from scimmage. RETAKING THE LEAD: After another massive game for Franklyn Quiteh, the running back has once again climbed to the top of the Division II rushing leaderboard. His average of 168.0 yards per game is best in the nation and is trailed by conference rival Akeem Satterfield, who averages 162.7. Quiteh is the third Husky to rise to the distinction at some point in his career, following Irv Sigler and Jamar Brittingham. Across all divisions, Quiteh is the fifth best rusher in NCAA football trailing only Michigan’s Denard Robinson (172.0) and three Division III players. WELL ROUNDED: East Stroudsburg currently ranks in the top-two PSAC teams in passing offense (271.5 ypg), sacks (3.00 per game), and net punting (36.69 yds/punt). Individually, quarterback Matt Marshall leads the conferene in total offense (299.5 ypg), and kicker Taylor Groff is tied for second in the PSAC with 1.50 field goals per game. NO RELATION: Other than having the same last name, Bloomsburg’s Mike Wagner and East Stroudsburg’s Ray Wagner also share the distinction of serving as backup quarterbacks. The surname is derived from the German word Waganari, meaning “wagonmaker” or “wagon driver.”

D2Football.com Top 25 FROM THE ARCHIVES By Bloomsburg University Archivist Bob Dunkelberger The 37-point margin of victory for Bloomsburg over Millersville was the second largest ever for the Huskies over the Marauders on the road. The most was 38 points when Bloomsburg defeated Millersville 40-2 in 1950. It was the third straight game Bloomsburg has scored at least 40 points, only the fifth time that has happened in program history, all under Danny Hale. The first time was in 1998, with the other four occurring in the past five years. The longest stretch was in 2005 when the Huskies scored 48, 40, 42 and 42 in their last four regular season games versus Cheyney, Mansfield, West Chester and Millersville. Bloomsburg has now scored a touchdown in 13 straight quarters, beginning with the fourth quarter of the opener with Ashland. This is the longest such streak since the Huskies scored touchdowns in 18 consecutive quarters from eighth game of 2007 through the second game of 2008. Bloomsburg’s all-time record versus East Stroudsburg is 36-43-2 in 81 games in a series that began in 1907, with the Huskies 18-22-1 at home, 18-19-1 away, and 0-2 at neutral sites. Danny Hale has been very successful versus the Warriors with a 14-4 record, including winning the last four in a row, the Huskies’ longest victory streak versus East Stroudsburg since they won eight straight from 1994 to 2001.

CHASING HISTORY: This chart shows the game-by-game rushing totals for Franklyn Quiteh compared to those of the best seasons of Bloomsburg’s three best all-time rushers. Through four games, Quiteh’s total (672) surpasses Glaze (406) and Brittingham (647) but trails Sigler (920) at the same point in their historical seasons.

Last Week BLOOMSBURG 44 - MILLERSVILLE 7 September 25, 2010 MILLERSVILLE—Franklyn Quiteh rushed for a career-high 223 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead Bloomsburg University to a 44-7 win over Millersville in the PSAC Eastern Division opener. Quiteh nearly put the Huskies in front on the game’s first play from scrimmage going 67-yards to the Millersville one-yard line. However, the Huskies could not punch the ball in on three plays and missed on a 19-yard field goal try. Bloomsburg did get into the endzone on its second possession when Quiteh capped a 50-yard scoring drive with a 25-yard run. The extra point failed and the Huskies led 6-0. Late in the first period, a Millersville punt pinned the Huskies back at their own 10-yard line. Quiteh got the Huskies out of trouble after three carries, moving the ball to the Bloomsburg 20. Alternating the passing game and the run, the Huskies worked the ball to the Millersville 37-yard line. Quiteh then had runs of 22, seven and four yards putting the Huskies first and goal at the four. QB Pat Carey then hit Ben Weaber with a four yard scoring pass on the first play of the second period to make it a 13-0 lead for Bloomsburg. After the Huskies defense forced a punt on Millersville’s next possession, Bloomsburg put together a 43-yard scoring drive to make it 20-0 capped by Carey hitting Tyler Guise with an 11-yard scoring pass, the first career touchdown reception for Guise. Codie Butler carried five times for the Huskies in the drive gaining 32 yards. Millersville got on the board on its next possession moving 80 yards in eight plays with Mike Jones scoring from one yard out to make it 20-7. Bloomsburg, though, got the score right back marching 64 yards in six plays on its ensuing possession and scoring with 1:56 to go before half. Quiteh scored his second touchdown of the game going in from two yards out for a 27-7 Huskies lead at the break. Bloomsburg started the second half forcing a three and out for the Marauders then put together a drive that stalled at the Millersville 15-yard line. There, Daniel Fisher connected on a 32-yard field goal attempt for a 30-7 lead. Bloomsburg added to its lead later in the quarter when Carey scored his first career touchdown on a one-yard keeper, then got the game’s final score midway through the fourth period when backup quarterback Mike Wagner scored his first career touchdown on a four-yard run. The Bloomsburg defense preserved the second half shutout late in the fourth period when Drew Siegfried intercepted Kevin Fowle’s pass in the endzone ending a Millersville drive. Quiteh finished with 22 carries for a career-best 223 yards, Carey was 11 for 17 for 119 yards and two scores and one rushing touchdown. The Huskies’ defense, which made three interceptions on the day and has eight over the last two games, got a team-high seven tackles from Jarrett Pidgeon.
