H I S TO R I C L A N D M A R K ES TAT E P R ES E RVAT I O N Award-Winning 1920’s Spanish Revival Restoration
“I’ve never heard of anything but nightmares with remodels but that just wasn’t the case with [Allen.] They handled everything like professionals.”
Project Highlights 7,200 SF HISTORIC HOME
- Dave and Erica C., Repeat Clients
This 1920’s Spanish Revival estate, designed by famed architect Arthur E. Harvey, was purchased by our clients with the goal of honoring the home’s history. They have since registered it as a historical landmark. The restoration of the property was a triumphant accomplishment for the owners and the project team. In addition to restoring the home to its original quality, a major goal of the project was to make it Net Zero, where the house consumes only as much energy as it produces. Maintaining the original architectural integrity and historic value of the home, while bringing it up to and even beyond today’s energyefficiency standards, presented a unique blend of challenges. The end result is a beautiful estate and historical landmark that will delight residents and guests for at least another century.

B E V E R LY H I L L S HILLSIDE REMODEL Wall-to-Wall Windows with Spectacular Vistas
Project Highlights 4,991 SF HILLSIDE RESIDENCE
Designed by Tooke Architects, this four-bedroom residence boasts three full ensuite baths, two powder rooms, and a media room. The original home, which sits on a lot with a nearly 45-degree slope, was taken down to the studs, expanded, and reconfigured with a modern design. The result is this beautiful, three-story residence that features stunning open-riser stairs with glass railings and abundant skylights that help maximize the openness of the space. Limestone and white oak adorn the floors. Spark linear fireplaces in the living room and master bedroom further enhance the home’s contemporary aesthetic. Wall-to-wall windows on the top two stories and wraparound decks, with glass railings, on all three stories invite the outdoors in and frame stunning vistas of Los Angeles below. A complete home automation system, high-end Miele kitchen appliances, Dornbracht fixtures in the kitchen and baths, and outdoors, an infinity-edged pool and spa, outdoor fireplace, and outdoor shower, add luxurious touches to the project.

MODERN RUSTIC B E AC H F R O N T ES TAT E Connecting Indoor and Outdoor Environments
“Allen’s strength while executing the subtlest of details was their adeptness in providing inventive, well-thought-out solutions rather than challenges.”” - Barry Winick, Winick Architects
Project Highlights 7,500 SF BEACHFRONT ESTATE
This new glass and steel beachfront estate features classic contemporary lines softened by natural wood and stone finish materials. The entire first floor and podium deck “floats” on pillars eight feet above grade. Steel moment frames support large window and door systems, which maximize the surrounding views. Stone floor tiles in the interior flow through large sliding glass doors out to exterior patios, creating strong connections between the indoor and outdoor environment. Great attention has been given to the building corners and window and door corners where wood joints and mitered corners need to be achieved and, overtime, maintain their desired look.

4,112 SF MAIN HOUSE 1,300 SF GUEST-HOUSE 856 SF DETACHED 3-CAR GARAGE Set amidst a beautiful natural landscape, this property consists of a main residence, guest-house, and detached three-car garage/studio. The kitchen’s large 6’ circular skylight is a central design feature in the home, bathing the interior with sunlight. It is a re-creation of the Kazakh Shanyrak, the “smoke hole” and the most sacred space in a Kazakh yurt, connecting people to the sky and the stars. Tapered wood beams radiate out from the skylight, like spokes on a wagon wheel, creating a very simple yet dramatic effect. Allen Construction’s team of master craftsmen worked closely with the architect, clients, and designer to bring the plans for this new build to life. Whenever construction challenges arose, Allen’s building experts guided the clients and design team toward innovative, sustainable solutions. The result is a craftsman prairie home that was built in harmony with its environment and to withstand the test of time.
