AKAR BAMBU,

At one of the exhibition in Jakarta last year, an opportunity arose for Budiman to do one of his favorite activities which is factory visit. He was introduce to this malleable material made of HDPE, nontoxic and 100% recyclable. A very interesting contender to use in our lighting. It is quite apparent from the beginning that this material has distinct character, it has a memory once it has been handled, and it really is something quite remarkable.

Sometimes it took a while to seek a quality of a certain material that can be woven into the identity of a product, however, this time, just within a single journey commute back home brought up a very clear direction for this material.

When worked at John Hardy, a decade back, Budiman did development of one of a kind luxurious bangles and vases from giant bamboo roots and this whiskers like material remind him of just that. It is always wonderful to tie up positive familiarity and use it to elevate the work, then it became very clear that the name of this product has to be AKAR BAMBU.
