Department of Veterans Affairs Certifies American College of the Building Arts to offer Degree Program to Returning Servicemen and Women Charleston, SC -The American College of the Building Arts is pleased to announce that it has received certification from the Department of Veterans Affairs to accept servicemen and women as part of the department’s educational benefits. Licensed by the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education in 2004, ACBA is designed to address the need for skilled artisans trained in traditional building methods. It is the only institution of higher education in the United States that offers a four-year liberal arts degree with specialized training in one of six classic building trades: stone carving, timber framing, masonry, ornamental iron work, carpentry and plaster work. “This is another indication of the maturation of the American College of the Building Arts. We are very pleased to accept applications from our servicemen and women and look forward to providing them with an education unlike any other in the United States,” said Lt. Gen. (R) Colby M. Broadwater, III, President of the college. ACBA is a recipient of the 2012 “Heroes of the New South” award by Southern Living Magazine in the category of Architecture for advancing traditional southern craftsmanship with a modern spirit.
