TEENS! WAYS TO FIND YOUR FIT & STAY INVOLVED

The City of Burbank Parks and Recreation Department proudly offers many enriching and engaging programs for teens. The Parks and Recreation Department can provide meaningful and engaging experiences that help teens develop leadership skills, discover new interests, and make a positive impact in the community. Check out the many ways for teens to find a great fit below:

Youth Leadership Program (YLP)

The Youth Leadership Program facilitates opportunities that empower high school students to become more effective leaders and have a positive impact in our community while earning volunteer service hours, building their personal resumes, and enhancing their networking skills. Participants in this program will meet for 9 sessions. This program fosters personal growth, encourages civic engagement, and prepares teens for a future in leadership.

Burbank Youth Board

The Burbank Youth Board offers high school and middle school students the opportunity to learn about and actively participate in local government. Youth Board is comprised of representatives from public and private middle schools and high schools as well as at-large members. School representatives are nominated by school staff while at-large representatives are selected through an interview process.

Counselor in Training (CIT)

The Counselors in Training program gives teens who are entering grades 1012 the chance to gain firsthand experience in working with young children and assisting professional staff in recreational and educational programs. CIT offers a unique working environment where teens can develop leadership skills, enhance communications skills, and cultivate responsibility and teamwork.

Teens in CIT “Dare to Lead” through CIT program components such as:

• Daily interaction with participants and staff at Summer Camp sites.

• Hands-on experience working with children and interactive training sessions.

• Leading arts, crafts, science experiments, sports, games, special events, and more!

Junior Lifeguard

The Junior lifeguard is a paid program that teaches participants the fundamental skills needed to excel as a lifesaving professional. Participants will learn basic aquatic rescues, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and other first aid skills to aid those in need. Successful participation will provide Junior Lifeguards the ability to shadow Burbank Lifeguards in their duties.

Burbank Volunteer Program (BVP)

The Burbank Volunteer Program matches local volunteers with non-profits and public organizations. BVP is a great way to complete high school service learning requirements while being a positive influence in our community. With a wide range of “stations” to participate in, teen volunteers are likely to find their fit here.
