Burbank’s Path to Sustainable Water Use

Burbank is currently in Stage III of the Sustainable Water Use Ordinance:

Attended hand watering is allowed any day before 9 am or after 6 pm.

Low flow irrigation is allowed on watering days, they are exempt from the 15-minute rule.

No outdoor evaporative cooling devices, such as misters.

Pools must be covered to decrease water evaporation. Visit bit.ly/pool-cover-credit for bill credit information.

Outdoor Watering is 2 Days/Week

April - October

Tuesday and Saturday

Before 9 am or after 6 pm 15 minutes per irrigation station

CHECK.

How do you know if your tree needs to be watered? Check! Use a screwdriver or other tool and gently push it 6-8 inches into the ground. If the soil is dry and crumbly, it may be time to water again.

How often will you need to water?

Every tree is different, but generally young trees will need watering 1-3 times a week (depending on the temperature) and mature trees will need watering 1-2 times each month.

Step 2

WATER.

When watering your tree, think low and slow. Water at ground level to avoid losing water to evaporation. Use a watering tool with a slow, steady release to make sure water soaks into the ground.

The goal is to get the water to the roots, which are typically 1218 inches below the ground.

Don’t forget to limit your watering times to before 9:00 a.m. and after 6:00 p.m.

Step 2

MULCH

Mulch keeps moisture in the soil and protects your tree’s roots from extreme heat.

Simply layer about 4 inches of mulch on the ground surrounding your tree, making sure to leave about 6 inches of empty space between the trunk of the tree and where the mulch begins. Did you know that the City of Burbank has a FREE mulch program? Take a look and find a convenient pick-up location. Need a lot of it? You may qualify for home delivery. For more information, contact: (818) 238-5300.

Pablo

Pablo is a 2-year-old male Pitbull terrier mix who adores people. He is a very smart dog who likes to show off his skills. He knows "sit" and sits nicely while waiting to be fed in the morning. He is very food motivated so continuing training outside of the shelter once he is adopted should be a breeze. Pablo adores people and is still working on not jumping up on them when he gets overly excited. He is a high energy dog who will enjoy constant walks and exercise. Pablo participates in our Shelter canine playgroups and has proven to be very tolerant and social with other dogs.

Astrid

The next time you encounter a coyote, remember to GET BIG. GET LOUD. AND SHOUT: “GO AWAY COYOTE!”

Astrid is a 2-year-old Armenian Gamper weighing in at healthy 125 pounds. Although Astrid is a big girl, she has the heart of a puppy and prefers to be a lap dog! She does well with other dogs at the Shelter and plays well in playgroup. Because of her big size, she’d do best in an adult only household as she loves to spin and whack any unsuspecting victims with her large tail. Astrid can spend hours throwing her squeaky toys in the air and catching them as they make their way back down, guaranteeing to keep her owners entertained.
