How does the “PARKSAFE” sensor system work? The “PARKSAFE” Parking Sensor is an accurate ultrasonic device which monitors the distance from your vehicle to potential obstacles in your blind spot. This distance is indicated by a sequence of beeps emitted by a Piezo beeper (in some cases also by an optional digital display). The closer the obstacle the faster the sequence of beeps, until a continuous tone indicates that your vehicle is now within 30cm of an obstacle.

Extended Zone - “The Blue Wire” For vehicles fitted with a tow bar, “PARKSAFE” control modules feature an adjustable extended zone which allow the system to “see” past the obstruction by pushing the start of the first zone out by 30cm. Refer diagram above The “PARKSAFE” Ultrasonic Reverse Parking Sensor System electronically scans the area behind your vehicle during reversing procedures and acoustically alerts you to other vehicles or objects within close proximity.

SENSOR FITTING GUIDE 1. Determine if there is any obstruction, particularly metal, behind the bar that may hinder the fitting of the sensor heads (If in doubt remove the bumper bar).

2. Use the guidelines set below to calculate the best location for mounting the sensors allowing for step 1. 3. In most cases we divide the distance between the outer sensors by three (3) to HORIZONTAL POSITION give an equal centre distance between sensor heads. 6. Carefully remove any relevant interior trim panels to locate an entry point/grommet into the vehicle to ascertain which side of the vehicle the control module will be installed to. 7. Carefully transpose the relevant dimensions with a Chinagraph/Wax pencil onto the rear bumper bar and accurately mark the drilling positions. Drill 3mm pilot holes for each sensor.

8. Using the recommended hole saw, carefully drill each of the holes. 9. Route sensor leads from the holes to the control module and plug into the relevant socket. e.g. CL = Corner Left, L = Middle Left, R = Middle Right & CR = Corner Right.

10. Pull approximately 100mm of extra sensor cable through the hole and temporarily tape to outside of the bumper bar for easier replacement should the vehicle or damaged in an accident. 11. With the cables connected, temporarily position the sensors halfway in their respective holes. (Do not push in all the way at this stage).

12. Source a power wire with a multi-meter, either, reverse for rear systems or accessory for front systems. 13. Connect red power wire from control module to power source. 14. Connect earth wire from control module to vehicle body (Do not earth to vehicle electrical system). 15. Mount beeper in an inconspicuous but audible location and connect to control module. below 450mm

16. To test systems apply handbrake, switch on ignition for front (do not start vehicle) or select reverse for rear. The beeper should emit one beep indicating that the system is switched on and active. 17. Stand to the side of the vehicle and slowly move the box supplied with the kit towards the corner sensor to determine that the tones change as you move from zone to zone. Repeat for other sensors. 18. Once you have confirmed correct operation of the system switch off vehicle. 19. Leaving each sensor head connected, carefully remove from the hole, coil and tape excess cable and re-insert each sensor taking care not to exert too much pressure on the center of the face. 20. Loom sensor cables together, wire tie into position and replace trim panels. 21. Re-test system before handing the vehicle over to the customer.

To test for sensor operation turn the system on and lightly place your finger on the centre of each sensor head and feel for a slight vibration. If there is no vibration then go to the next step.

Clean the face of each sensor to ensure that no dirt or paint is bridging the gap between the movable centre section and the outer shell. Re-test..

Cover each sensor with foam to absorb the ultrasonic beams. This will allow you to isolate each sensor during testing.

Starting with the first sensor, remove the foam one at a time and re-test the system to determine which, if any are false alarming.

The “PARKSAFE” front sensor system operates in a similar fashion to the rear system, with some noticeable differences. Front sensors have a full range coverage on all four sensors with a maximum range of 90cm. Provides the driver with a visual guide by illuminating LED’S.
