Weather hinders annual bird count Between the snowfall and frozen lake feathered friends were hard to spot By Tereza Verenca
tverenca@burnabynow.com
It appears the recent heavy dump of snow had a big role to play in this year’s Christmas Bird Count in Burnaby. The 10-year average for the annual census of winter birds is 62 species, but this year’s Dec. 18 event recorded only 57 species, 15 fewer than last year. “(It was) probably some of the worst weather we’ve ever counted in,” said George Clulow, an avid birder who’s been organizing the count since the 1980s. “The other thing that made a difference is that the lakes were mostly frozen, so a lot of birds move out because there just isn’t the water for them to do their usual feeding.” Missing this year were the pine siskins, a small finch that normally has a count of 700, he noted. “It’s probably food-related.They’re a tiny bird, but they wander huge distances all over the continent, and they may have been pushed south by the poor weather. What’s more likely (is) the weather doesn’t bother them, and the food that they like is available, (but there’s) more food elsewhere than in

The snowy weather had an impact on bird numbers in this year’s count, according to Clulow – who’s been organizing the local count since the 1980s. PHOTO JENNIFER GAUTHIER
our local area,” Clulow said. While the count was below average, some bird species had higher numbers than usual. The team of 10 bird watchers spotted 182 spotted towhees. “Usually, we get between 60 and 70, so (it’s) a big increase. The previous highest count in the last 15 years was 103,” Clulow said. “I suspect it was more relat-
ed to the weather, pushing them up where we could see and hear them.” Another species that made more of an appearance thanks to Mother Nature was a robin-like bird called varied thrush. Fifteen of them were seen, marking the second highest count of that species. The fox sparrow (46) and the song sparrow (160) also had high
numbers. “These birds move into lower elevations when the snow fall is really heavy higher up,” Clulow explained. Unlike last year, where three new or rare species were noted (the redhead duck, the pine grosbeak and Lincoln’s sparrow), the same can’t be said for 2016. The birders did, howev-
er, spot three red-breasted sapsuckers. None have been recorded in the last decade, and “if you go way back” in the counting records, counters have never seen more than one at a time. They also saw one merlin, a midsized falcon, at Deer Lake. For the first time since 2008, sightings of Anna’s hummingbird took a dip (six were tallied), again due
to the snowy weather. In 2015, they were spotted in areas away from houses, like parks. But Clulow said this time, they were crowding around people’s feeders. The Christmas Bird Count also noted 7,200 crows in the Still Creek corridor, which is on par with previous counts.

Judge sends driver to jail for 4.5 years Man ran a red light, killing a 25-year-old Burnaby woman, and then fled the scene of the accident By Jeremy Deutsch
jdeutsch@burnabynow.com
The man responsible for running a red light and causing a crash that killed a 25-year-old Burnaby woman will spend the next four years-plus behind bars for his actions. On Wednesday, provincial court judge Harbans Dhillon handed Ibrahim Ali a global sentence of 4.5 years
for dangerous driving causing death and failing to stop at an accident causing bodily harm for his role in the crash that killed Emily Sheane. In October, Ali pleaded guilty to the two charges related to the events on the evening of March 9 this year. Sheane was driving home from work on Moscrop Street before mid-
night when she was hit by an SUV running a red light at Willingdon Avenue and Deer Lake Parkway. The driver, Ali, and passenger in the SUV took off on foot but were eventually arrested a few days later at a hotel in Creston. In her decision, the judge said Ali showed “disregard” for the speed limit and other motorists and made a deliberate decision to ignore traf-
fic signals that put Sheane in harm’s way. Ali claimed he was distracted by an argument with his passenger at the time of the crash. Dhillon said she didn’t believe Ali’s excuse that he took off out of panic but instead said his actions were designed to avoid responsibility. At the time of crash, Ali was prohibited from driving and also got his
hands on the Range Rover by using a bad cheque. While Dhillon noted his criminal record, which includes 20 convictions going back to his youth in 2007, she accepted that Ali feels remorse and considered his guilty pleas a mitigating factor in her sentence. Court heard Ali’s DNA wasn’t found in the vehicle and the case relied on the cooperation of the passenger.
Dhillon also reflected on Sheane’s life, noting the victim impact statements from family and friends were a “testament to the life of a beautiful young woman” who was “fully engaged in humanity.” The judge said no sentence could adequately compensate the loss to Sheane’s family. ‘They feel they are in prison’: Alsaleh
Syrian refugee’s family still in limbo in Europe, one full year after a successful crowdfunding campaign Tereza Verenca
tverenca@burnabynow.com
A Syrian refugee whose family is split between three countries and remains “in limbo” is planning to pen a letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Mohammed Alsaleh made headlines in the fall of 2015 when the NOW’s sister paper the NewWest Record first covered his story. He was arrested in Syria at the age of 24 while writing a test for medical school and was detained for 120 days,
All they need is to get here and start their lives tortured and nearly killed. He fled to neighbouring Lebanon and eventually landed in New Westminster, leaving his family behind. Two of his brothers, including a 16-year-old, are currently in Germany, while his mom and other siblings are in Turkey. After reading the story and meeting Alsaleh, New West resident Deana Brynildsen started crowdfunding to help bring his family to Canada and met the $30,000 goal in less than three weeks. St. Albans Anglican Church in Burnaby agreed to help with set-
tlement services, such as taking the family grocery shopping or helping register the kids for school. But now that a year has gone by, Alsaleh said the process has dragged on, and the separation has negatively impacted his family. “They feel they are in prison,” he said. “They are in a situation in which they don’t have work, they don’t have school, and once they go out, they don’t have any friends. They don’t know anybody there, and there is a language barrier.Their lives are not being taken seriously. That’s what they feel and that’s what they told me.” Alsaleh, who works for the Immigrant Services Society of B.C. as a national youth worker, added his family’s situation is stressful for him, too. “I’m not being able to sleep well, to eat well. My overall well-being is being tremendously impacted by this,” he said. The family’s sponsorship applications filed by the Anglican Diocese of New Westminster were approved in Canada a few months ago, but they still have to be called for interviews by officers from the Canadian embassies in Ankara and Vienna (Germany does not have an immigration office at its Canadian embassy). Alsaleh told the NOW

he’s been advised by Peter Julian, MP for New Westminster, that the file for the family members in Turkey may be finalized by next March, but “no promises.” For his brothers in Germany, he’s been told those applications could take up to 46 months. In his letter to Trudeau, Alsaleh plans to write about
his two encounters with the prime minister. The first was during Trudeau’s initial visit to B.C. after he won the 2015 election. The second was when the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, (Prince William and Princess Kate) were in Vancouver at the end of September and met with a family of Syrian refugees. Alsaleh
served as an interpreter. Alsaleh said he’s not asking for special treatment. “I’m writing to him to just share the feeling of gratitude to Canada and all Canadians for helping me and saving my life, and share with him that my family is so grateful for everything Canada has done for us,” he said. “I would just ask for
(him) to take into consideration that (my family) has everything ready for them here in Canada. They have an expanding network of people; they have enough to support themselves, and all they need is to get here and start their lives.” COMMENT ON THIS STORY

Teens help peers navigate the world of healthy relationships Cornelia Naylor
cnaylor@burnabynow.com
Older students at Byrne Creek Community School will soon be teaching younger kids about tricky topics like sexual consent and dating violence. Last month, Grade 12 students Francesca Ferraresso and Nikhil Narayan and Grade 11 student Jasmine Morrison attended a two-day Red Cross conference on healthy youth relationships, and they’ll be passing on their learning to Grade 8 and 9 students in the coming months and ele-
mentary kids after that. The Red Cross conference, attended by about 150 high school students from around the province, was designed to certify students as youth facilitators to teach the Red Cross’s healthy youth relationships course. It’s the first time high school students will take on a teaching role in the course, which deals with topics like personal boundaries, gender identity and sexual orientation, media influence, dating violence, consent and sexting. They’re tough topics, admits Red Cross Respect
Education manager Mary Crocker, but getting kids involved in teaching other kids about them is effective, she said.
We want them to feel like there are clear boundaries “Younger students and peers tend to both take a subject more seriously when it’s role-modelled by their fellow classmates,” she said. “Sometimes subjects can be
really intimidating to even approach, and yet they’re so important to talk about, and having youth trained up in it and being able to bring down the alarm level of certain subjects, it’s very comforting.” And students taking on a facilitator role will always be supported in the classroom by an adult teacher. “We care about their safety as well, obviously, and we want them to feel like there are clear boundaries about what they can and cannot do as a youth facilitator,” Crocker said. Opinion now OUR VIEW
Counting our blessings, yet again There are two holidays during the year that always make us deeply grateful for what we have. Thanksgiving is the obvious one.The other one is Christmas.Yes, it’s an adopted Christian holiday cobbled together with ancient pagan rites and rituals that have little to do with Jesus Christ. But this holiday, like so many others, is not about its historic origins but the feelings we hold for it. How
it touches us in so many non-religious and religious ways. How it evokes memories of family, travel, of laughter, joy – and, yes, even sadness. Of people missing from our lives, of family long lost. Or of family members reunited after too long absences. Not everyone celebrates Christmas, but there are few who can remain untouched by the sentimentality of the songs, the generosity of spirit and the theme
Not everyone celebrates Christmas, but there are few who can remain untouched by ... the generosity of spirit and the theme of charity. of charity. This Christmas is no different. We are reminded how blessed we are in so many ways.We reside in a peace-
ful country, surrounded, for the most part, by kindred spirits who hope for the best for others. We have doctors and nurses who work hard to keep us well,
firefighters and police officers who work tirelessly to keep us safe, and kind strangers who will come to our assistance if we ask. Most of us will be able to wake up on Christmas morning knowing that there is a good meal to be shared with family or friends in the making. We are also reminded of how fragile life can be and how hard it can be for many. There’s not a week that goes by when we here
at the Burnaby NOW aren’t struck by that fact as we cover the news. We hope that this Christmas all of our readers, and everyone near and far, stays safe, gets many hugs and smiles, breaks bread with family and friends and joins us as we count our many blessings. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. No matter what you celebrate, enjoy every moment.
MY VIEW DERMOD TRAVIS
B.C.’s masters of self-promotion
It’s official. After hitting send to more than 2,680 news releases this year, the B.C. government’s Communications and Public Engagement Office is now scraping the bottom of the barrel for an excuse – any excuse – to trumpet the government’s prowess. If you’re not on the distribution list, you may not appreciate the leave no stone unturned – Todd or otherwise – gusto they bring to the job. The Ministry of Education has issued 273 releases in 2016, including 50 in one 10-hour span alone celebrating new dust collection systems, upgraded floors and air conditioning systems at various schools across the province. News releases for school improvement projects in government-held ridings also came with tailor-made quotes from the local MLA. With all these improvement projects, is it any wonder the B.C. Liberal party gave a shout out to Education Minister Mike Bernier in a recent update to party members for “knocking on more doors in more ridings than any other member of #TeamBC2017 to date.” JohnYap – who seemingly has issued more news releases as Parliamentary Secretary for Liquor Policy Reform than he ever did as a minister – sent out one this week headlined: “Get cozy with your cocktails at B.C. hotels and resorts.” It prompted the official opposition to finally call for a moratorium on future liquor announcements.
The big daddy of news release saturation is the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure with more than 400 to date. Thinking ahead to next May’s election, the transportation ministry is also inviting the public to submit ideas for 75 new stops of interest signs, each undoubtedly with its own news release and photo-op. Think of it as 75 quick wins. How far overboard has the government gone in the news release saturation department? Since the last election, they’ve issued more than 7,700 releases. Dig a little further back into their online archive and under former premier Gordon Campbell, the government made do with 2,130 news releases from 2001 to 2005. Some of the difference could be attributed to pruning for the archives, but even that would say a lot about the more than 5,000 releases that would have been pruned. Perhaps the news release overkill by the current government can be explained by the annual budget for the Communications and Public Engagement Office. While most ministries scrape by, since 2010/11 the communications office has seen its budget jump by 43.3 per cent to $37.9 million. Who took the defibrillator?
Burnaby firefighters were combing Government Street between Brighton Avenue and Cardston Court in March, looking for their lost $5,000 defibrillator. The machine, used to revive heart attack victims, had apparently fallen off one of their trucks. Officials said firefighters from Hall No. 6 had been working with the machine just before getting a call and probably didn’t secure it properly. They warned the device could deliver a powerful electric charge and shouldn’t be tampered with.

Heights residents still have good bus options, TransLinkVP says
Downpayment loans: setting a debt trap or lending a hand?
Dear Editor Re: Bus cutbacks hurt seniors in the Heights, Letters to the editor, Burnaby NOW, Dec. 16. I want to assure Karen Dean and others in her neighbourhood that there will continue to be good bus service on the local stops for people who live and shop in the Heights along Hastings Street. What we’ve done this week is launch the new 95 B-Line – a service that will provide more reliable trips along Hastings Street between Burrard station and Burnaby Mountain. Creating this new service involved discontinuing the 135 and reducing the number of stops to improve the reliability of that connection. That said, we know it’s important that we keep strong local service on Hastings with bus stops close together for those who either can’t or don’t want to walk too far. For local stops, we’re providing good options. Notably, as of this week the 160 We think it is a Kootenay great addition Loop/Port to the corridor Coquitlam station providing more serves all local stops choice on Hastings Street between Cliff Avenue and Kootenay Loop with 15-minute frequency at peak periods. It will operate between 5:30 a.m. and 1 a.m. For travel between Willingdon Avenue and Kootenay Loop, the 130 bus provides 15-minute frequency all day. It operates between 6:15 a.m. and 2 a.m. And for travel between Holdom and Gilmore avenues, the 129 also offers 15-minute frequency at peak periods and will operate between 6:15 a.m. and 1 a.m. The discontinuation of the 135 and the creation of the 95 B-Line was an important change to a high-demand service. The 135 had among the worst on-time performance in our system due to high congestion on Hastings. It was also the sixth most-crowded bus route in the system in 2015, and was subject to some of the worst bus bunching in the system, also due to congestion. It meant that you couldn’t rely on the bus to come on time, and when it did it was often either already full or there’d be two or three of them in a row. Creating a limited-stop B-Line will make that downtown-SFU service more reliable. We think it is a great addition to the corridor providing more choice – the 95 B-Line for longer trips and good local services to ensure convenient access to the neighbourhoods and businesses. We are always monitoring our service and making adjustments where we can. The good news is, with the approval of Phase 1 of the mayors’ plan last month, we will begin delivering a boost to bus service on some of our most crowded routes beginning in April 2017. Canada is already over-governed: letter voting Proportional representation is not sharing the seats between parties by confiscating the votes as “party votes.” Canada is supposed to be a representative democracy. It could and should become a proportionally representative democracy. Party can feature in that, as much as any other social group. PR, that is representative, and not merely partisan, can and does operate without parties at all. Pampered politicians require proportional partisanship (they call PR) to ensure they have jobs for life. But that is not healthy for a democracy. Richard Lung. Elias Ishak The USA does not have equal numbers of politicians from each State ... Why would you be against a less centralized government? In theory, the more representatives we have, the more representative the system should be. And proportional representation would mean that the cities would basically reign over rural Canada. Sounds like a fair system ...
Heights bus changes hurt Burnaby seniors Dora Turje Won’t the 160 now be serving local stops along Hastings from Inlet to Kooteny Loop? It will mean transferring to the new 95 B-Line to get downtown, but there will still be service at the local stops along Hastings through Burnaby. There will be a reduction in frequency for sure, but not a total cut, and they are increasing the frequency of the 160 compared to its old route.
City tackling snow Keith During one of our recent snowfall I was traveling through Burnaby and took the Willingdon Overpass, which was a the scene of a 5 car accident and had several stuck buses. The overpass had not been cleaned at all and was in very bad shape. A little later in my commute I finally did see a city snow plow, but it was clearing the City Hall parking lot. At 5:30 at night on a Friday.

Teens lead relationship course for younger peers Continued from page 5 If a fellow student discloses a serious problem, for example, youth facilitators have been trained to be clear it will be passed on to a teacher to follow up on with help from other staff, like counsellors. “It’s a very carefully nuanced role that we’ve put a lot of time and research into considering and that we really feel is effective,” Crocker said. At Byrne Creek, community school coordinator Bal Dhillon will be the adult support – or “adult advisor” – behind the revamped course, which will first be delivered to Grade 8 and 9 students at the school during tutorial time and then to
I like talking about these problems Grade 6s and 7s at Byrne’s feeder schools:Twelfth Avenue,Taylor Park and Edmonds. “Because some of the topics are so difficult to talk about, they can’t do it on their own, so they co-facilitate it and that will be with me,” Dhillon said. The topics covered might be tough for students to talk about, but Dhillon doesn’t expect the course to raise any controversy. “Our community is very
ethnically diverse,” he said, “and that has to be taken into consideration in our delivery, but this stuff matters to everybody.” Ferraresso agrees. “I like talking about these problems,” she said. “I think the most important thing students have to know is that the problems exist and that we have to do something about them.” For Crocker, having students like Ferraresso talking to other students about the issues lends a whole new level of credibility to the program. “They are the life practitioners that breathe the relevance of what we’re teaching into the classroom,” she said.

Driver gets jail time in fatal hit-and-run crash
Continued from page 3 Sheane’s mom Judy said she appreciated the kind words the judge said about her daughter. “She (Judge Dhillon) was fair, she was just,” she said. “It will be hard, but I’m glad we got some justice, but it won’t bring her (Emily) back.” Judy also said she’s not sure if she believes Ali is remorseful since he hasn’t been previously but added how he continues his life will determine if he means what he told the court. Both Ali, 26, and Sheane went to Burnaby South Secondary but didn’t know each other. “Emily was one of those who went to parties, but she always had to have a theme and have fun and include everyone. He wouldn’t have been a part of the crowd,” Judy said. The family has started a scholarship at the high school in Emily’s name. During the sentencing,

The family fun doesn’t end once Christmas Day has come and gone – and neither does the need to find ways to keep the kids busy. Whether the weather outside is frightful or delightful, parents can rest assured there’s plenty to do for the whole family this holiday break. Mo Corston-Oliver
special to the NOW
Sometime in the late 1990s, I visited my grandmother Nanny Oliver in her Nova Scotia home. As usual, her table was overflowing with a cornucopia of baked goods. Since it was Christmas, she offered us fruitcake and shortbread cookies, along with her usual orange-blueberry muffins. But I was mostly interested in her homemade gingersnaps. They were thin and crisp and spicy, and I’d never had anything like them. My mother – herself an excellent cook – had warned me about asking my grandmother for her recipes. “She always leaves out the most important ingredient,” she whispered. “So when I make it for Les, he says, ‘It’s not like my moth-
er used to make!’ I know she does it on purpose!” But I figured a granddaughter didn’t pose the same threat as a daughter-in-law. So I took a deep breath and asked for the recipe. I pulled a scrap of paper out of my bag and waited, pen poised. “Well,” she said. “Let me tell you about these cookies. There’s nothing in them but shortening, molasses and flour. So they never go off. In fact, one time I made up the dough at Christmas, and I put it out on the porch to cool.Well, do you know, I got so busy making up the program for church, I forgot all about the dough. I said to myself, I said, now, didn’t I already make that cookie dough? I looked high and low, and I couldn’t for the life of me find it. And do you know, it was the next summer when I went out for the canning jars, you know, to make my mustard pickles, and there was my cookie dough still in the pot?You have to cook it, you see, you cook the shortening, the sugar and the molasses – about equal

parts of each. But don’t you let it boil! Anyway, there was the dough, all mixed up right in the pot where I’d cooked it. I rolled it out and baked it – you just bake them for about 10 minutes in an oven that’s not too hot – and do you know those cookies were just fine?” I looked at my notes. Surely that couldn’t be it. My mother was a careful, precise cook with an eye for detail and a perfectionist streak. She had taught me to weigh and measure every ingredient, even for recipes she’d been making for years. I knew that Nanny pulled meals out of her tiny kitchen like so many loaves and fishes. Enough to feed five hungry teenage boys, enough to feed the choir members at rehearsals, enough to feed the local children who came to her door, enough to feed the cousins, nieces, nephews and grandchildren she had in abundance. She made all this with what came from her garden, what could be bought on a minister’s modest stipend, what the congregation brought to her door, and what her hus-
band and five sons managed to shoot, hook or trap in the woods behind the house. I had also heard my mother speak admiringly of Nanny’s method of cooking, even baking. Nothing was by recipe. It was chaos, with flour flying everywhere and everything being dumped in a bowl with no apparent plan. But I was starting to understand. This was how my grandmother thought about cooking – not by recipe, but by look, feel, and touch. It wasn’t that she left out ingredients on purpose; it was that cooking was so spontaneous, creative and physical for her that she couldn’t have defined or described her methods. I tried again. “OK, so it’s just sugar, molasses, and shortening, right? And you cook them together and … what else?”’ “Well, let’s see. Then you put in the spices, just some ginger and cinnamon. And you need baking soda. Just a spoonful dissolved in a little hot water. And then some flour, a few cups, and you mix it all up till the dough is nice and fluffy but not
1 cup molasses 1 cup white sugar 1 cup shortening 1 tsp. baking soda dissolved in 2 tsps. water 2 tsps. ground ginger 1 tsp. cinnamon 3 1/2 cups flour Stir together the molasses, sugar and shortening in a saucepan. Heat on lowest heat for up to 30 minutes, stirring constantly until the shortening is fully melted and just until tiny bubbles start to form at the surface. Do not let the mixture boil. Allow to cool for at least an hour (easiest to work with while warm but not hot). Stir in the spices and the baking soda in water.
too crumbly. You know, one time I left the dough out on the porch all summer …” That was all I was getting out of her. Over the next few years, I tried the recipe a few times. It always ended up the same: gelatinous goop of sugar and molasses, hardened ball of dough, completely unworkable. Every time, I’d put it aside for a few years, and then

The mixture will become lighter in texture and colour. Stir until smooth and light brown throughout. Add the flour gradually, working in the last bit with your hands. It should form a smooth, shiny ball that is neither sticky nor crumbly. Allow to cool completely. Roll out VERY thin (2 mm) on a floured surface. Cut out in shapes and put on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 10 to 12 minutes at 325 F or until edges of cookies just start to brown. They’ll be soft when they come out of the oven but will develop their “snap” as they cool. Makes 60 cookies (10 cm diameter). Each cookie: 100 cal, 3 g fat, 17 g carb, 1 g protein
try again. I even emailed my cousins to see if they or their mothers had learned to make the cookies. No one had. Finally, I spent an afternoon in the kitchen experimenting with the recipe. With the help of my son, I finally recreated the recipe, this time with measurements. I still haven’t worked out those orange-blueberry muffins, though!

Burnaby company in the running for biz award Continued from page 19 networking events the business association puts on each year. If you’re interested in hosting an after-hours mixer, contact Cory Redekop, manager of policy and events, at 604-412-0100 or email him at cory@bbot.ca. BURNABY BUSINESS NAMED A SEMI-FINALIST Kudos to CPE Systems
Inc. for being named one of 10 semi-finalists in the annual small business B.C. awards. The 14th annual event recognizes outstanding small businesses across the province in various categories, including best international trade – the category in which CPE Systems Inc. got its nod. Burnaby-based CPE Systems Inc. primarily supplies breweries and microbrewer-
ies with the tools and equipment needed to make beer. While it sells to a number of Lower Mainland breweries, CPE Systems Inc. also does a hefty amount of business with breweries south of the border. The Top 5 finalists in each category will be announced on Jan. 23.The overall winners will then be
revealed at the Small Business B.C. Awards ceremony on Feb. 23 at the Pan Pacific Vancouver. Good luck to CPE Systems Inc.; we’re rooting for you! UNTIL THE NEW YEAR With the holiday season upon us, Movers & Shakers will be taking a wee break
until the new year. (Don’t worry, that’s really only a week-long hiatus, nothing major.) There will be no Dec. 30 edition of the Burnaby NOW, so any business news or announcements will have to wait until the following week. I will, however, still be at my desk, so feel free to keep
sending me story ideas, good news announcements and the like. As always, you can reach me by email at cdobie@ burnabynow.com, by phone at 604-444-3059 or look for me on Twitter @cayley dobie. Here’s to a Happy New Year! Talk to you all in 2017.

TRUTH IN ''EMPLOYMENT'' ADVERTISING Glacier Media Group makes every effort to ensure you are responding to a reputable and legitimate job opportunity. If you suspect that an ad to which you have responded is misleading, here are some hints to remember. Legitimate employers do not ask for money as part of the application process; do not send money; do not give any credit card information; or call a 900 number in order to respond to an employment ad. Job opportunity ads are salary based and do not require an investment. If you have responded to an ad which you believe to be misleading please call the Better Business Bureau at 604-682-2711, Monday to Friday, 9am - 3pm or email inquiries@bbbvan.org and they will investigate.
