PRESIDENT’S PR ESIDEN NT’S WELCOME W WEL ELCOM ME Welcome from the President of The Rotary Club of Burnham Beeches Welcome! We hope you really enjoy the 23rd Donkey Derby organised by The Rotary Club of Burnham Beeches. It will take place on the affternoon of Saturday 24th May 2014 in Burnham Park. Traylen’s funfair will be there and will as usual be open the whole of that Bank Holiday weekend. The car park entrance is on Priory Road, Burnham. As usual entry is FREE and there will be donkey races, rides, dozens of stalls, the opportunity to buy a snack, to enjoy an affternoon tea or a cooling drink in our beer tent and of course to enjoy the arena events. Rotary ’s motto is “Service above Self ”. In organising the Annual Donkey Derby, The Rotary Club of Burnham Beeches aims to provide a first rate event, bringing the whole community together. We provide an opportunity for other charities to present themselves and to raise money. We also raise money to fund our own charitable activities, and in this context many thanks to the local supermarkets who permit us to collect on their forecourts. Thanks also go to those many local firms who advertise in the Donkey Derby programme, and/or sponsor the donkey races. We have raised money for many local charities including, Marie Curie Cancer, Thames Ho Hospice, Alexander Devine Children’s H Hospic e Service and the Well at Lent Rise. As part of Rotary International’s effort we contribute to help eradicate polio from the World. This huge effort is on the brink of its final goal with only a few pockets of the terrible illness remaining on the planet. In a practical sense we work with local secondary schools and young people’s organisations, for instance with skills development connected with interviewing and applying for work or further education. Enjoy the Donkey Derby. If you’d like to find out more about Rotary come along to our organisers’ stall or visit v our website www.rcbb.co.uk Neil Smith, President Burnham Beeches Rotarry Club of Burnh
