he capabilit y for Professor Derek Hart and his team at Dendritic Cell Biology and Therapeutics Group (DCBTG) to deliver a world-wide boost in finding a cure for cancer is on our doorstep now that the ANZAC Research Institute at Concord Hospital and Bendigo Bank have formed a partnership to launch an Australia-wide appeal. The ANZAC Research Institute Medical Appeal was announced at the 2013 Inner West Business Awards presentation last Wednesday and will be formally launched this month in every B endigo Bank branch in Sydney with a starting target of $150,000 before expanding nationally for a total target of $5million. Professor Hart is an Oxford Rhodes Scholar who has focussed his work on human dendritic cell (DC) research, which helped to verify its existence, and for which Professor Ralph Steinman was awarded the Nobel Prize – posthumously, in 2011. The Group is internationally recognised as a leader in the field and includes Hart’s Associate Professor wife, Georgina and a brilliant 20-strong team. So, why is the Dendritic Cell so important? DCs are unique subsets of white blood cells that are responsible for initiating and

directing immune responses. In the past two years, the Group at Concord have proven that these cells can be isolated, taken out, retrained and put back into the blood stream to fight cancer or accept transplants from the inside. They are rapidly approaching Phase 1 of human clinical trials in a collaboration that exists between Concord, Westmead and RPA Hospitals. The $150,000 inner-west target will provide one more researcher and equipment. Bendigo Bank’s Senior Community Strengthening Ma n g e r, Jo h n Chandler says this appeal will be the largest community project Australia-wide for the bank. “We are delighted to be associated with this wonderful cause,” Mr Chandler said. “Anyone will be able to donate at the bank or online. Over 12 months the Appeal will be rolled out across Australia and we will encourage and support local community events with fund-raising.” The Abacus Property Group, which owns Ashfield Mall and Birkenhead Point Shopping Centre, announced a $5,000 donation to start the appeal at the Local Business Awards last week.

No wonder the prime minister shed a few tears bringing the legislation to parliament. the biggest impact came from the mother of two young autistic children, Sandra Casinader, who tearfully described what her life was like. “I am only at the beginning of this journey and it’s such a tortuous journey to access

Sandra’s recount of her life could be anyone’s story. Disability has no boundaries. Paying for the program will be tough, but preferable to paying for pink batts or forking out cash lump sum payments. Great North Road, Five Dock

Fixing Five Dock

The future of the shopping strip along Great North Road could be determined by a ‘collaborative map’, where residents and interested people can log their comments online as part of Canada Bay Council’s $150,00 Urban Design Study for Five Dock. The City of Canada Bay has appointed design firm Arup and its Sydney-based designers to assist with the preparation of the study and host a series of engagement activities to get feedback. “Five Dock is one of our cultural and business hubs and we want to take that to the next level by working with our community to reinvigorate the town centre,” Mayor Angelo Tsirekas advised. “We are preparing a study that will include ideas from our community and businesses on how to make Five Dock even more attractive, friendly and safe for residents, workers and visitors.” The first of a series of workshops and community drop-in sessions was held on June 1st at Fred Kelly Place in Great North Road, but a number of business owners in the area were unaware of the session. “I didn’t know about it,” said Sissa Boutique owner Joanna Maratos. “My issue is that half hour parking is too short. I’d prefer an hour and traffic calming devices. The cars are very quick and I see at least one accident a month. The area could be prettied up.” The growing For Lease signs

by Belinda Noonan

along with the graffiti on many surfaces, including an entire building and the base of the new sculpture in Fred Kelly Place are a concern for Councillor Michael Megna. “Great North Road is the business centre but looks like a third world shopping centre,” said councillor, Michael Megna. “The vandalism, poor footpaths and some derelict buildings don’t give the city centre a good look at all. There’s been study after study and look where we are – nowhere.” Mayor Tsirekas says that the planned revitalisation will be a significant boost. “The outcomes of the study will provide direction in terms of the appearance and function of the Five Dock Town Centre and provides an opportunity for the community to work with the City of Canada Bay to plan for the area’s future,” the mayor said. Over 100 people attended a meeting held by the council last December to inform them about the Urban Design Study. “We have kept in touch with the people who attended this meeting, plus the Chamber to ensure that they are involved in this project,” said a council spokesperson. Businessman and realtor, Joe Rizzo says he “absolutely loves Five Dock” but that it will become a ghost town if something isn’t done soon. “We are only 6.5kms from the city and everyone around

us is progressing,” Joe says of Burwood and Strathfield. “The floor space ratio needs to be increased for between five and seven storeys. We need development.” “We are losing people who are shopping elsewhere because it’s the ugliest strip in the area. Older people want to downsize and be close to shops and the area they know but there’s nowhere for them to go here. Young couples starting out would love being close to the city.”

Ernest heads to the Upper House Deputy Mayor of Burwood and prominent member of the Australian Chinese community, Ernest Wong has filled the casual vacancy in the NSW Legislative Council vacated by Eric Roozendaal. The choice of Wong, who is aligned with the right faction, is seen as a move away from trade union officials and strengthens ties within the Chinese community. “I am very excited to be a part of the legislative process but also feel the weight of expectations from the community, particularly the Chinese community,” Mr Wong said. “I want to make sure that the legislation is transparent and that the community has a full knowledge of what’s happening in Parliament.” Mr Wong is the only

Australian with a Chinese background in the NSW Parliament and he sees himself as a conduit between the two cultures. “I will be aiming to bring more harmony into the whole community at large. There is a language barrier for some and it’s important that the Chinese community integrate into the Australian culture. I will be able to help with that process and also be able to convey the Chinese community voice to Parliament,” Wong explained. Ernest moved to Australia from Hong Kong to study in 1979 and was formerly a member of the Unity Party, from which he was voted onto Burwood Council in 2004. He was the first Chinese Australian mayor of Burwood in that term before switching to the ALP for the 2008 council elections.

He and his wife Rita Lee are raising their two teenage children, Francesca and Charlton in Burwood. “I’m pleased to welcome Ernest Wong to the NSW Labor team,” NSW Opposition Leader Mr Robertson said. “He has a proud history of advocating on behalf of the community, through his work with the Lions Club, the Westmead Hospital Medical Research Foundation, sporting clubs and aged care advocacy groups. I’m thrilled Ernest will be a strong representative and advocate for the Chinese Australian community, who have brought so much to the people of NSW.” A joint sitting of the NSW Parliament was held on Thursday, 23 May to swear Mr Wong into the Legislative Council.

Environment Minister Robyn Parker and MP Charles Casuscelli with MK Park at Sydney Markets.

As the largest single site of employment in the region and the number one private fresh produce market in the world, Sydney Markets at Flemington takes recycling and environmental sustainability seriously and have been nominated for a prestigious United Nations environment award. “Sydney Markets is the home of fresh food, flowers and Paddy’s and we take pride in delivering a world-class, environmentally sustainable site,” said Brad Latham, CEO Sydney Markets Limited. “We have been recognised by the World Union of Wholesale Markets by receiving the Environmental Sustainability Award and more recently being nominated as a finalist in the United Nations World Environment Day Awards.” NSW Environment Minister Robyn Parker visited Sydney Markets last week to inspect their recycling initiatives that have seen them divert 11,500 tonnes of organic waste from landfill. Touring the Market’s recycling station with Strathfield MP Charles Casuscelli, Ms Parker said

Burwood Deputy Mayor and now member of the NSW Upper House, Ernest Wong.

Sydney Markets environmental management initiatives have been developed in partnership with the Government’s Sustainability Advantage Program. “It’s great to see how well the Markets have applied what they’ve learned by setting up a facility that recycles more than 60 per cent of their paper, plastic, steel and organic waste,” Ms Parker said. “Organic waste now goes to a composting system which is

eventually turned into fertiliser. “Polystyrene waste left over from packing fresh produce was once a big problem until they installed a machine that recycles more than 50 tonnes of polystyrene each year. Sydney Markets have also cut their water use by up to 20 per cent by installing water tanks and time control taps. Mr Casuscelli congratulated Sydney Markets for becoming

a Silver member of the program. “Sydney Markets have saved more than 2,400 tonnes of green-house gas emissions by becoming more energy efficient,” Mr Casuscelli said. The NSW Government’s sustainability programs for business help small, medium and large business to improve their resource efficiency by offering energy audits, training, technical advice and online resources.

Finalists and winners celebrate their achievements by Belinda Noonan

What a fabulous night it was at Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL for the presentation of the 2013 Inner West Business Awards. The room was decked out in black and red and the vibe was there for a brilliant night as soon as the 450 guests arrived who were representing the most outstanding local businesses from the Inner West. The 2013 Inner West Local Business Awards presentation evening on Wednesday, May 29 was a fantastic night of celebration and provided recognition for all finalist businesses. Among the highlights was the announcement of Jospehine Maniscalo from Nocturnal Designs as the 2013 Business Person of the Year and Relish Sydney as Business of the Year. Young Business Person of the Year was awarded to Emily Thomas from DMC Medical at Drummoyne who paid tribute to her work-mates and the mentoring she has received at DMC. Jospehone Maniscalo’s Nocturnal Designs at Norton Plaza is so much more than a lingerie shop. Jospehine and her fully trained and credentialled staff provide sensitive and helpful post mastectomy services and have many designs for all breast sizes up to J and K bra sizes. The Longest Serving Business Award was presented to Jack

Skelton from Park Avenue Meats in Ashfield. His family business has been in the one location for 108 years. Organiser of the Local Business Awards and Managing Director of Precedent Productions, Steve Loe, said, “The response from the local community to this year’s awards represents not only the high standard of local businesses in the Inner West area, but also the close relationship which these local businesses have developed with their customers. The quality of businesses involved in this year’s awards has been remarkable, and the judging process by all accounts has been an extremely difficult task. Inner West local businesses deserve commendation for their efforts in 2013.” Mr Loe also thanked the support by sponsors, which included Burwood Council, Ashfield Council, Leichhardt Council, Powerof300, Ashfield Mall, Norton Plaza, MarketPlace Leichhardt, Birkenhead Point Outlet Shopping Centre, Strathfield Plaza, Burwood Plaza, Ashfield Business Chamber and Clearly Business BEC and said that their involvement was essential in running the awards program. Abacus Property kick start national cancer medical appeal The owners of Ashfield Mall and Birkenhead Point Shopping Centre, Abacus Property Group, generously kick-started the ANZAC Research Institute Medical Appeal with a $5,000 donation on Wednesday, May 29 at Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL during the presentation of the 2013 Inner West Local Business Awards. A partnership between the ANZAC Research Institute and Bendigo Bank for an Australia-wide appeal to fund human clinical trials for an anti-cancer vaccine was announced during the evening, urging all local business owners to be involved in the Appeal,

which is seeking an initial target of $185,000 in Sydney to provide one more researcher and equipment for Professor Hart’s group at Concord Hospital. Local businesses can be involved by displaying a poster in their shops, supporting or hosting fundraising events or providing advice and expertise. The ground-breaking discoveries being made by the Group at the ANZAC Research Institute into a vaccine to fight Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), which can then be used to combat other cancers, is close to starting human clinical trials. “Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) is the most common

type of adult leukaemia and affects the older age group in particular. Whilst there has been some progress in combining established chemotherapy drugs and supportive care for patients, the majority of patients still die of their disease or its complications,” Professor Hart said. The Group has made significant recent advances in the fight against leukaemia and have identified the first member of the CD300 family of molecules. In a huge breakthrough, the Professor’s team including PhD student, Dr Robin Gasiorowski, who is leading the AML research, has initiated a project to complete essential preclinical work defining CD300f

wagyu, lemon-infused pork belly on a parmesan base and salmon sashimi. It’s Gabriele’s love of life and good food that makes the difference. “The most important factor is the passion we put into our food along with top quality ingredients. We will celebrate two years in August and so far it’s been fantastic. We will soon be opening another restaurant and function centre at Abbotsbury in Western Sydney, which will be amazing.” Gabriele credits his family for the run-away success of Amoretti’s. “I attribute this passion for food to our Italian upbringing. We learned the delicacy of combining food with the warmth of love by watching our mother and grandmother prepare meals for the family,” Gabriele said. Amoretti’s also has its own signature coffee brand, sourced from the purest coffee beans from Colombia, which can be enjoyed in the restaurant or purchased to take home. To celebrate the win Amoretti’s is offering 10% off all in restaurant dining until June 30 on presentation of the voucher as advertised on this page. Conditions do apply. Gabriele Moretti says he was in “total shock” after his Chiswick restaurant, Amoretti’s was announced winner of the Best Pizza Restaurant in 2013 at the Inner West Local Business Awards last Wednesday. “I’ve been in the hospitality game for 15 years working in restaurants in different capacities since I left school before opening my own restaurant not quite two years ago,” explained Gabriele. We never expected to win and I was so shocked, I was lost for words but it does show that hard work pays off and it feels so good to be recognised.” The 17-hour days put in by Gabriele, who is the Executive Chef, has helped to quickly establish Amoretti’s as the latest pizza destination in Sydney, with customers travelling over 35 kilometres to enjoy a taste of what makes Amoretti’s different to the rest. “This is my third visit to Amoretti’s (only because I live 35kms away)..... it’s worth the drive! Without doubt, the best Italian restaurant in Sydney. Beautiful fresh home style cooking and clearly the best Pizzas’s outside of Rome,” says one review on Urban Spoon. From starters and tapas through to the extensive Italian menu are the innovative ‘My Way’ pizzas which include prosciutto and fig, peppercorn

Pete Blasina, the “gadget guy (right) explains how to use an ipad.

Seniors call on students to get tech-savvy

Strathfield seniors are set to learn more about the latest technology as part of a new partnership between Telstra and Meriden School. Year 10 students from Meriden School will participate in a training workshop at Marian Court Units in Strathfield where they will learn how to teach seniors to stay safe online and use the Internet on an iPad with skill and confidence. The event will be facilitated by TV Gadget Guy Peter Blasina and is designed to help the community prepare for the launch of the National Broadband Network in Strathfield next month. The workshop will equip students with the expertise they need to deliver seniors technology training sessions in

the community throughout the year. This program complements ‘mentoring others’ the focus of the Year 10 pastoral program at Meriden School. Elizabeth Stevens, Acting Principal Meriden School said the students would have the opportunity to make a real impact on individuals at risk of being left behind in the digital age, such as older Australians. “This program is one that crosses the divide between generations, equipping Meriden students to be able to help older members of the local community to use technology more effectively. It enables Meriden girls to give back to the community and build their own confidence in sharing new skills and knowledge, Ms Stevens said.

Young scientist steps up Bethlehem College’s Year 11 student, Kermina Kiriacos has been selected to attend the Professor Harry Messel International Science School during the upcoming school holidays. The Program was first established by Professor Harry Messel in 1950 and encourages the study of science by gifted science students. The University of Sydney offered Kermina a scholarship to attend following her success in previous science competitions, where she was awarded prizes by both the University of Sydney

and the Young Scientists of Australia. “I would like to pursue a career in medicine and the opportunity of learning more about nanoscience and its application in future medical applications is really exciting, said Kermina. Joelle Camps-Vasquez, science coordinator at Bethlehem College described Kermina as a “hard-working student. “She constantly finds the challenge of science motivating and involves herself in any opportunity to explore, she said.

New lights for All Hallows An extra 101 sets of school zone flashing lights will be installed by July, offering protection at 1,340 schools across NSW. Drummoyne MP John Sidoti announced that automatic flashing lights have been installed at All Hallow’s Primary school on Halley Street at Five Dock and will operate automatically between 8am and 9.30am and 2.30pm and 4pm on school days. “With 280 flashing lights installed this financial year, it will be the largest number ever rolled out in a single financial year, “Mr Sidoti said. The lights are linked to a central computer system and use LED technology.

Racism awareness program rolls out Schools across Sydney will be involved in an educational program that first started as Burwood Council’s cultural awareness program, Different People Different Voices Project (DPDVP), aimed to fight discrimination and cultural isolation in Burwood among young students. The program to get underway comes as NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell said that anti-racism material should be recirculated in schools, after AFL player Adam Go o des received comments from a 13-year-old girl during a match. The DPDVP project trialled at the end of last year was declared

a resounding success and has formed part of a broader national strategy to counter intolerance and extremism. In July, the initiative will be rolled out in nine schools in Sydney’s South, West and Inner West and will bring together Youth Councils from across Sydney to form a youth leadership group of 20 young people to implement the project. “The groundbreaking and successful pilot program for the DPDVP by Burwood Council in conjunction with other authorities provides a blueprint for working towards a more harmonious Australia, said Burwood Mayor, John Faker.

Her creative film making is an inspiration to all, said Vivienne Awad, Principal of Domremy College. The competition organisers were excited by the skill and

imagination shown in the entries. “The films are a delight. For some students this is the first short film they have made. Burwood Council offers a range of services to people living with a disability from inclusion programs and an Access Committee, to remove physical and social barriers which prevent people participating fully in the community, to capital works projects in order to provide better accessibility in the area. The NSW Independent Local Government Review Panel has released its discussion paper Future Directions for NSW Local Government: Twenty Essential Steps and is visiting Ashfield on 13 June. The Panel’s Future Directions consultation will include visits to 29 regional cities and towns and 8 locations in the Sydney metropolitan area from 9 May until 14 June 2013. Community Hearings will be held to provide opportunity for local people and organisations to express their views directly to the Panel and discuss the various ideas and proposals in the paper. The Panel’s goal is for a more sustainable system of democratic local government that has added capacity to address the needs of local and regional

communities, and to be a valued partner of State and Federal governments. NSW needs more effective local government to harness the skills and resources of local communities, improve quality of life and advance State development. The Panel wants to discuss the options included in the paper with councils and communities. The paper fulfils the Panel’s commitment to ensure that all concerned can discuss the options being considered for its final report, which is due in September 2013, to give the Panel time to consider all feedback. The Ashfield Metropolitan Community Hearing takes place on 13 June from 6 to 8 pm at The Activity Rooms, Ground Floor, Ashfield Council, 260 Liverpool Road, Ashfield.

Business book brings out best in workers by Mitchell Jordan

Omer Soker

Five Dock businessman, Omer Soker hopes that workplaces will be far more harmonious now that his first book has been published. This month, Mr Soker published The Trust Future in both physical and e-book form. He said that the greatest inspiration for the work, which aims to empower both employers and employees alike, was fixing a “major problem” in the workplace. “Our jobs should give us joy and satisfaction, as well as a pay cheque. But the reality is most people are stressed, tired and ‘over’ their employers by October and desperate for a short relief during Christmas only to repeat the cycle again the next year,” he said. Writing the book took Mr Soker five months to

complete. He described the process as “a joy”. During each of those months, he aimed for up to 2000 words a day. “The challenge for me was not to get dogmatic or preach about ethics and trust,” he said. “Nobody likes being told what to do and I wanted the book to be non-judgemental, and a rational business case for acting true to your values.” Mr Soker, who runs The Ethics of Success, hopes that his book will have a positive influence on those who read it. “Companies forget that their best assets are its people, and people can accomplish great things when they are put in the right circumstances,” he said. “There is no better feeling than having someone tell you that the book has helped them.”

Paid parental leave comes earlier than expected Expectant parents have one less thing to worry about when their new baby arrives, with the option to claim Paid Parental Leave up to three months ahead of time. Minister for Human Services, Senator Jan McLucas visited the Burwood Service Centre recently to speak to local mothers claiming the payment, which provides eligible working parents with up to 18 weeks of pay at the minimum wage. “More than 280,000 new parents across Australia have now benefitted from up to 18 weeks leave under Labor’s Paid Parental Leave scheme. “Claiming up to three months early means getting the paperwork out of the way so you can focus on the important things, like preparing for the arrival of your child,” Senator McLucas said. You can claim online providing you have the relevant details from your employer and have spoken to them about your leave arrangements Ms McLucas advised. Also available is Express Plus

Senator Jan McLucas (left) and MP John Murphy (centre) at Burwood Service Centre.

Families mobile app to finalise claims said the Member for Watson, Tony Burke. “When the baby is born or adopted, parents will need to tell Centrelink a few final details, and provide proof of birth or adoption to begin being paid. I’m really pleased to see they have the option of using a mobile device to do this,” Mr Burke said.

“The Express Plus Families app means parents can complete claim questions, and then take a photo of the relevant document and submit it via the app within seconds – straight from the maternity ward.” For information on Paid Parental Leave eligibility and how to claim, visit www. humanservices.gov.au/parentalleavepay

Big step for little paws Strathfield resident Beryl Helen and her dog, Bimbo, put their feet – and paws – to the test in the RSPCA’s Million Paws Walk last month. The dog-and-owner duo not only completed a five-kilometre walk through Homebush Olympic Park for the third year running, but they did it in record time. “We did it in an hour and ten minutes, Beryl said. She insisted that there was nothing arduous about the challenge. “It wasn’t hard, Beryl said. “It felt better this year than last year. The fast timing isn’t entirely surprising given that Beryl takes her dog for a walk four times a day throughout Strathfield. Since moving to the area three years ago from her farm in the country, Beryl has actively been involved in the community. She is

by Mitchell Jordan

a member of Strathfield West Senior Citizens’ Club and, according to president Marlene Doran, makes a valuable contribution. “I was so proud of her for completing the marathon, Marlene said. “Beryl has fitted into the Senior Citizens’ Club very well. She’s a lovable country lady who loves her dog. Money raised through donations and online fundraising for the Million Paws Walk helps to fund the RSPCA’s work in the community, including the care of more than 30,000 animals that enter shelters each year. So far, this year’s event has raised over $259, 000. Beryl, who enjoys an active life, plans to be back with her dog in 2014. “I hope to do it again next year, she added.

Big hearts help out in Fiji Drummoyne surgeon Ian Nicholson and Strathfield anaesthetist, Michele O’Brien were among the 48 medical professionals from around the country who recently returned from Operation Open Heart in Fiji. For the last 22 years, Operation Open Heart has been travelling to Fiji to provide the free surgery otherwise not available to adults and children suffering with life threatening heart conditions. Though Nicholson and O’Brien were not available at the time of writing, Baulkham Hills-based surgical assistant, 34-year-old Anna Rosendahl, who worked with them, described the experience as highly rewarding. “Working in Fiji is vastly

by Mitchell Jordan

different from working in hospitals in Australia, she said. “The buildings are 50-60 years old and there are very different standards. Though Ms Rosendahl and the workers had to rough it at times, nothing beat the satisfaction they felt. “One in 100 children are born with congenital heart defects and in Australia they are usually operated on at birth, she said. “In Fiji, they aren’t, so we get people coming at various ages. The most amazing thing is how fast they bounce back – especially the kids. I get so much joy out of seeing their lives changed.

Burwood Library receives state of the art upgrade A new state of the art loans system will make borrowing a book at Burwood Library as simple as pressing a button. Library members can now check out their own items with an easy to use touch screen loans system, known as Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), officially launched at Burwood Library today. The system allows users to choose from a list of 20 languages, including Chinese, Indian, Italian, Greek and even pirate (for children and the young at heart), with the system remembering the language choice for the next time the user borrows items. “This latest piece of technology will be a great addition to the new Library and Community Hub,” says Burwood Mayor, Cr John Faker. Kids in childcare hits 1 million

Burwood Council to buy office suite

New figures released by the Federal Government on May 27 have confirmed children receiving child care services in Australia has hit one million for the first time and that one quarter of all children aged up to 12 years were now receiving child care. Early Childhood and Child Care Minister Kate Ellis said the result was evidence that the Gillard Government’s measures to improve child care af fordabi lity were working. “This is a very strong result and a testament to the Government’s work in building a more affordable, accessible and higher quality child care sector,” Ms Ellis said. “The number of children receiving child care across Australia has increased by nearly 20,000 in just one quarter and nearly four per cent over the year. “Make no mistake, there is still plenty of work to do to increase the availability of child care in many locations but this result is encouraging.” Approved child care services across Australia have increased by more than 600 over the year to 15,147 for every form of child care including long day care and outside school hours care.

Following the move from Conder Street to premises at Elsie Street, which are believed to cost approximately $1million per year in rent, Burwood Council is set to purchase the Elsie Street office suites on Level 1. “For the past few years Council has been renting the office space at Elsie Street, but long term rent was not considered to be a sustainable option, that is the reason why Council decided to negotiate the purchase of the property,” commented Burwood Council General Manager, Michael McMahon. “The property has not only become a very accessible and central location for our Chambers, but it’s also a good asset to add to our property portfolio, right in the middle of a growing CBD,” said McMahon. “Council will be able to amortise the expenditure in approximately 10 years, and then own a very valuable commercial asset.” “Council believes it’s a good investment, and a confirmation of this came from the State Government’s Division of Local Government, who, following review of the business case, approved the expenditure under their Capital Expenditure Guidelines,” he concluded.

Smoother sailing for Drummoyne ferries A new timetable with 50 extra services over Sydney will mean easier travelling for Drummoyne residents, according to local MP John Sidoti. The new timetable will be released in October. It is intended to include express services from Abbotsford to Cabarita during the commuter peak, a new dedicated service from Cabarita, Abbotsford, Chiswick and Drummoyne to Darling Harbour in the peaks and 30-minute services between the inner-west

locations to Circular Quay via Darling Harbour. “There will also be an extended span of hours for buses which connect to ferries at Cabarita Wharf,” said Mr Sidoti. Mr Sidoti also added that Bayview Park wharf will no longer receive ferry services due to low customer numbers. “By removing Bayview Park from the network we can improve services to more popular wharves with a growing number of customers,” he said.
