Visit From Bcc Director General
We are very excited to welcome Director General of the British Chambers of Commerce, Shevaun Haviland, to the Duchy for three days this month. Shevaun will meet a variety of different companies here and discover more about the role Cornwall can play in national and international business.
Member Survey Results
Thank you to all those who completed our member survey – it really does help us erve Cornwall’s businesses better. The results are in, and we will go through each and every comment as a team to ensure that when we recruit our new Membership Executive, they will have goals to work towards to improve the membership experience. Look out for the next QES where Cornwall reports our business climate.
Shared Prosperity Fund
More Shared Prosperity Funds are on the way, and Cornwall Chamber of Commerce will be acting as delivery partner for many of the business support contracts awarded over coming months.
The Built Environment
On July 7, our Cornwall Conversations event at Foot Anstey will be focused on Planet C and Future of The Built Environment. Sponsored by Treveth Holdings and Ward Williams Associates, the morning’s speakers will delve deeper into the topic of what our infrastructure and landscape might look like in a net zero world. Register now to understand how Cornwall is at the cutting edge of environmental development and what the opportunities and challenges for your business may be.
Planet C
The Planet C messages are so key to Cornwall’s prosperity and business values that we have spread events throughout the year, rather than focusing on a single month of events as we did in 2022.
We are holding a Sustainability Conference at The Eden Project in September, with Hugo Tagholm as our keynote speaker. We have events throughout the year on Social Sustainability, The Built Environment and Wellbeing in the Workplace.
New Staff At The Chamber
There have been a lot of changes at the Chamber and if you’re a seasoned networker, you should start seeing some new faces!
Ella, our Events and Marketing Manager, has left to pursue her freelance career as a Virtual Assistant – we wish her all the best with her new venture. Ella has joined the Chamber as a start-up member. It’s been fantastic to see her grow to the point of having the confidence to start her own business and recognise the value of Chamber networking and lobbying!
Zoe, our Membership Executive, is following her passion and has landed a fantastic job in the charity sector with one of our members, Children’s Hospice South West.
Sarah Whipp, who has been with us for some time as Business Clusters Project Manager, will be stepping into the role as Marketing and Events lead.
Cornwall Ambassadors
Are you a Cornish ambassador? The Cornwall Ambassador Scheme brings together people who care about the future of Cornwall and want to actively promote the Duchy as a great place to live and work. They need more ambassadors to reach their next milestone of 5000 voices representing the Duchy. Find out more at cornwall.co.uk
Blue Peninsula
We are going to be working with NIA International who specialise in blue economy implementation and innovation from the Arctic to Africa. Look out for Cornwall leading on the Blue Peninsula as the opening device for realising the power of the blue economy. We’ll be bringing other South West Chambers on the journey too. It’s massive so what might the opportunities for your sector offer?
Masterclasses Revitalised
With EU funded training no longer on offer, the Chamber wants to be an intermediary, providing opportunities for businesses to broaden their team’s skills and confidence. We are therefore revitalising and rebranding our Masterclasses. We invite members to share their expertise with other members in short sessions. Let us know if you have expertise you would like to share with others. They work really well to spread business know-how throughout Cornwall.
Mark Duddridge
The loss of Mark Duddridge will be felt across the Cornish business landscape. Mark was quietly brilliant and steered many of the campaigns and projects that got the Duchy to where it is today. He will be sorely missed.
When judging the 30 under 30 entrants each year I am a) in awe of the ambition and expertise we have coming up in Cornwall & Scilly b) thrilled to be part of such an inspiring process put together by my colleagues and our sponsors c) sad that we can’t reward all nominees – it was 96 this year and I know, from personal connections, that doesn’t tell the whole story by any means. We had entrepreneurs, change makers, prosperity creators and eco-warriors from a huge cross section of businesses and business support, all adding to the magic that makes living and working in Cornwall so special. I congratulate you all particularly those who’ve made it to the final 30.
We look forward to engaging with all of you who entered - and those who didn’t – in our Nex Gen events throughout the year. See our website to get involved. And for the winners, we enjoyed spending a great evening with you all at The Alverton!
Thanks also to Ella and the marketing & events team at Cornwall Chamber of Commerce; Floss Bate who did so much to take this year’s awards up to the next level; our sponsors Coodes solicitors, Truro & Penwith College, Pirate FM, Business Cornwall and Whyfield Associates without whom these exciting programmes can’t happen. Thank you for your support. You help make 30 Under 30 such a key and enjoyable part of our year.
