hile the Hyundai brand may be synonymous with stylish, dependable vehicles, to people outside of Africa it may be a surprise to know that a network of over 100 dealerships in Southern Africa, across South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. Since 2000, Hyundai Automotive South Africa has been committed to becoming the best automotive brand in the country.
LEADING THE WAY Hyundai has adopted the motto: “New thinking, new possibilities” and that is the way it approaches the manufacture of new vehicles. Hyundai’s Tucson has recently been chosen as a finalist in the South African Guild of Motoring Journalists (SAGMJ) and WesBank’s Car of the Year competition for 2017.
It is not the first time Hyundai’s vehicle has been a contender for the prestigious award. In 2013 the Hyundai i30 1.8 GLS was a finalist in the annual competition. And in 2012, the Hyundai Elantra was crowned as South Africa’s Car of the Year for 2012. The third-generation Tucso launched in South Africa in March 2016, will compete with nine other finalists for the title of 2017 Car of the Year, which will be announced in March 2017. CUSTOMER CENTRIC For most of us, buying a car is an important financial decision. So a customer walking into a Hyundai Dealership needs to know that every aspect of the deal will be taken care of, and so staff are trained to make it the best possible experience. Hyundai is leading the industry with a new, groundbreaking warranty across its vehicle range. “That’s how much we believe
in the build quality of all our models,” says Hyundai. “It’s one more reason to buy a Hyundai.” Sine 1 February this year, qualified Hyundai passenger and light commercial vehicles purchased are covered for a period of 7 years or 200,000km, whichever occurs first. “Our mission is clear: To grow our brand, on a reputation built on integrity; recognisable style, reliability and superior build quality,” states Hyundai SA. Incentives like this one helps to attract South Africans looking for a vehicle that is both affordable and maintainable. Hyundai Automotive South Africa invests in the future and commits to research and development at every level to ensure that Hyundai drivers have access to world-class technicians and the finest possible vehicles. To preserve the value of a vehicle and ensure that a Hyundai model operates at its peak performance, maximum economy and safety, Genuine Hyundai Parts are designed with every other part of the
vehicle in mind. The idea is for the vehicle to run as smoothly and efficiently as it did the day it was driven off the show room floor. Genuine Hyundai Parts are stringently tested and manufactured to the highest quality standards. “Your vehicle benefits from years of design and manufacturing expertise, says Hyundai. A COMMITMENT TO A CLEANER FUTURE In a world where there is an ever-increasing scrutiny on energy emissions, Hyundai SA took the step three years ago to invest R6 million in a new eco-friendly office. In doing so, it became the first automotive company in South Africa to receive a fourstar, green-rated HQ in Bedfordview. The project included
Hyundai implementing an environmental management plan, fitting solar panels to heat the water used in bathrooms and showers, and using a rainwater-harvesting system that reduces water consumption. Developing eco-friendly vehicles is a main focus of Hyundai as a brand too. A demand for improved fuel economy and increasingly stringent emission rules mean that car manufacturers are having to think more energy-friendly than ever before. “We need to expand eco-friendly car lineup and strengthen sales, production capabilities to lead the eco-friendly car industry, said Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Mong Koo.
“The eco-friendly car market will determine the fate of Hyundai Motor,” he said.”We should strengthen our competitiveness in such technologies for our future success.” Hyundai and Kia have said they plan to have 28 environment-friendly vehicles in their lineups by the end of the decade, including electric cars and hybrids. The company plans to start sales of the G80 mid-sized sedan and the bigger G90 sedan in the US this year. As market trends across the world lean towards cleaner vehicles, the South African market is no different. Just as Hyundai has worked tirelessly to be one step ahead of competitors’ designs, its challenge now is to do so in this environment.
