IHG HOTELS & RESORTS BRINGS UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCES TO GUESTS AND RUGBY FANS THROUGH PARTNERSHIP WITH SIX NATIONS RUGBY

In its second year as the Official Hotel Partner of the Guinness Men’s and Women’s Six Nations, IHG Hotels & Resorts kicked off the excitement on Saturday ahead of the Round 3 matches with not one but three memorable pregame experiences. Ahead of the England v. Scotland clash in Twickenham, rugby fans and guests staying at the nearby Holiday Inn London - Brentford Lock were treated to a surprise performance of the English and Scottish national anthems by singer, songwriter, and actress Pixie Lott, and Scottish singer and songwriter Tom Walker, to get fans pumped ahead of the match.

Elsewhere in the UK, ahead of the game in Cardiff, choirs from Wales and Ireland pitched up at voco St David’s hotel to galvanise support for their home nations. Both battling it out in the hotel lobby, the choirs performed renditions of their nation’s anthems as guests headed to the game.

The surprise performances follow research commissioned by IHG Hotels & Resorts, revealing the importance of pre-match rituals like the national anthem for fans and athletes alike. Despite their conflicting

allegiances, rugby fans from each nation were united in the belief that national anthems are an iconic part of international rugby, with three quarters (75%) going so far as to say they are the most important pre-match ritual.

Karin Sheppard, SVP & Managing Director, Europe, at IHG Hotels & Resorts, commented: “Delighting every guest that walks through our doors is at the heart of what we do as a global hospitality company; it’s about creating unforgettable experiences that

Left to right: Ilona Maher, Jim Chapman, Emily Atack, Joel Dommett and Jodie Ounsley (Fury)

leave a lasting impression. What better way to get guests in the mood for the excitement of watching their team in action than by hearing their national anthem being performed in our hotel lobbies before they head to the games.”

“We’re incredibly proud to enter our second year as the Official Hotel Partner of Guinness Men’s and Women’s Six Nations Rugby, and to deliver truly memorable moments, both on and off the pitch, for our guests, IHG One Rewards members and rugby fans once again.”

Later that day, IHG Hotels & Resorts hosted a star-studded bash at the Allianz Stadium, Twickenham. Celebrity guests included rugby star Ilona Maher, renowned television presenter and comedian Joel Dommett, popular actress and singer Billie Piper, actress and television personality Emily Atack, YouTuber and entrepreneur Jim Chapman

and former Women’s rugby union player Jodie Ounsley.

Guests were treated to a memorable and exclusive game day experience at the stadium in a private suite. The intimate setting created the perfect atmosphere for socialising and building excitement before the main event.

The partnership between IHG Hotels & Resorts and Six Nations Rugby, puts fans and IHG One Rewards members at the heart of the action, by offering once-ina-lifetime fan experiences throughout the Men’s and Women’s Championships. These experiences include behind the scenes stadium tours, pitch side experiences, match tickets and hotel packages, and a chance to watch team’s train. Loyalty members can turn their rewards into VIP experiences with all IHG’s sports partners throughout the year by bidding to redeem them on IHG One Rewards Access.

Pixie battled it out against Scottish singer-songwriter
Tom Walker at IHG’s Holiday Inn London –Brentford Lock.

WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP: ACCELERATING ACTION FOR A MORE EQUITABLE FUTURE

The

Business Case for Gender Equality in Leadership

As businesses navigate an increasingly complex global landscape, one factor remains clear: diverse leadership drives success. Yet, despite progress, women remain significantly underrepresented in executive roles. International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025, themed "Imagine a gender-equal world... Collectively for #IWD2025, we can all #AccelerateAction," serves as a timely call for business leaders to take concrete steps towards gender parity.

Companies that prioritise gender diversity not only foster more inclusive workplaces but also experience measurable benefits, including stronger financial performance, enhanced decision-making, and improved innovation. This article explores the importance of women in leadership, the persistent barriers they face, and actionable strategies businesses can adopt to drive meaningful change.

Why Women in Leadership Matter for Business

Studies from organisations such as McKinsey & Company and the World

Economic Forum consistently highlight that companies with greater gender diversity in leadership outperform their less diverse counterparts. Key advantages include:

Higher Profitability – Companies in the top quartile for gender diversity are 25 per cent more likely to achieve aboveaverage profitability.

Stronger Innovation – Diverse teams encourage new perspectives and creative problem-solving, fostering innovation.

Enhanced Reputation and Talent Retention – Organisations that support women’s leadership attract top talent, strengthen employer branding, and improve employee engagement.

Better Risk Management and DecisionMaking – Gender-diverse leadership teams make more balanced, forwardthinking decisions, reducing business risks.

Women Who Are Shaping Business and Innovation

Across industries, influential women have demonstrated the power of inclusive leadership:

Indra Nooyi – As former CEO of PepsiCo, she transformed the company’s

strategy, prioritising sustainability and long-term growth.

Mary Barra – The first female CEO of General Motors, leading the company’s shift towards electric vehicles.

Jane Fraser – CEO of Citigroup, the first woman to lead a major Wall Street bank.

Whitney Wolfe Herd – Founder and CEO of Bumble, reshaping the tech industry with a women-first business model.

Rosalind Brewer – Former CEO of Walgreens Boots Alliance, a leading advocate for workplace equity. Their success underscores a fundamental truth: when women lead, businesses thrive.

The Barriers Holding Women Back

Despite the proven benefits of genderdiverse leadership, challenges persist:

The Leadership Pipeline Problem

– Women are often overlooked for high-impact roles and mentorship opportunities.

Unconscious Bias – Persistent stereotypes lead to women being judged more critically in leadership positions.

Workplace Culture and Policies – A lack of flexible work arrangements and inadequate parental leave policies disproportionately affects women’s career progression.

The Gender Pay Gap – Women still earn, on average, less than men for the same work in many industries.

Strategies to Accelerate Gender Equality in

Leadership

To address these challenges, businesses must take proactive steps:

1. Strengthen Leadership Pipelines

2. Challenge Bias and Redefine Workplace Culture

Establish mentorship and sponsorship programmes to support women’s career progression. Ensure equal access to leadership training and development opportunities.

• Implement unconscious bias training to promote fair decision-making in hiring and promotions.

• Foster a workplace culture where diverse leadership styles are recognised and valued.

3. Create Inclusive Workplace Policies

• Offer flexible working arrangements and enhanced parental leave policies for all employees.

• Ensure fair and transparent pay structures to close the gender pay gap.

4. Set and Measure Diversity Targets

• Track gender diversity metrics at all levels of leadership.

• Hold leadership accountable for progress on gender inclusion initiatives.

5. Invest in the Next Generation

• Support girls’ education in STEM and leadership development programmes.

• Partner with organisations that promote female entrepreneurship and career advancement.

A Future of Equitable Leadership

International Women’s Day is not just a celebration; it is a movement towards long-term change. IWD 2025 challenges businesses to go beyond words and take meaningful action to accelerate gender equality. By fostering diverse leadership, businesses can drive greater innovation, performance, and social progress.

The future of leadership must be inclusive. Now is the time to act.

THE RISE OF DIGITAL ECONOMIES: TRANSFORMING GLOBAL MARKETS IN 2025

In the past two decades, the digital revolution has reshaped global markets in profound ways. From e-commerce giants to fintech startups, the rise of digital economies is no longer a distant trend— it’s a powerful force reshaping how we work, trade, and interact in the global marketplace. The digital shift is redefining industries, empowering new business models, and creating fresh opportunities for growth. Yet, alongside this shift, new challenges and risks emerge that businesses must navigate to thrive.

Digital Economies: The New Frontier

A digital economy is one where the primary activities in the economic system are based on digital technologies. It’s characterised by the use of digital platforms, internet services, big data, and artificial intelligence to facilitate trade, enhance business processes, and create new value propositions. In 2025, businesses rely more than ever on cloud computing, data analytics, e-commerce

platforms, and digital currencies to connect with customers and optimise operations.

As the global population becomes even more interconnected, the digital economy continues to drive transformation across every sector—finance, healthcare, retail, education, and even entertainment. With the continued proliferation of smartphones, high-speed internet, and social media, digital platforms are empowering entrepreneurs and corporations to tap into vast, borderless markets.

A Boom in E-Commerce

One of the most visible outcomes of the digital economy has been the exponential growth of e-commerce. The rise of online shopping platforms such as Amazon, Alibaba, and Shopify has transformed the way consumers purchase goods and services. What began as a modest platform for buying books has evolved into a multi-trillion-pound industry, influencing

all aspects of commerce—from inventory management and logistics to customer service and payment systems.

E-commerce has not only created massive opportunities for established businesses but has also paved the way for a new wave of digital entrepreneurs. The relatively low barriers to entry and the ability to target global markets have allowed small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to compete with larger players, democratising access to digital markets. This shift has given rise to innovative business models such as subscription services, direct-to-consumer brands, and the gig economy.

The Role of Financial Technology (Fintech)

No sector has been as profoundly impacted by digital economies as the financial industry. Traditional banking systems have had to evolve rapidly in response to the rise of fintech. In 2025, online payment platforms like PayPal, mobile wallets such as Apple Pay, and peer-to-peer lending networks are transforming the financial landscape, making transactions faster, more secure, and accessible to a larger portion of the global population.

In addition to offering convenience, fintech is driving financial inclusion. In the UK, for example, nearly 2 million adults remain unbanked, but the digital economy is changing that by providing alternative ways for individuals to save, invest, and transfer money without traditional banking access.

Blockchain technology, the decentralised ledger system behind cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, is another innovation transforming global financial markets. It offers transparency, security, and the potential for greater efficiency in financial transactions, reducing the need for intermediaries and lowering transaction costs.

Data-Driven Decisions: Big Data and Artificial Intelligence

At the heart of the digital economy is data. Every transaction, interaction, and click generates valuable information that businesses can leverage to understand consumer behaviour, forecast trends, and optimise performance. In 2025, big data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) are enabling companies to gain deeper insights into their operations and customers.

AI is being applied across numerous industries, from predictive analytics in retail to autonomous vehicles in transport. Machine learning algorithms help businesses predict customer preferences, personalise marketing efforts, and improve supply chain efficiencies. For instance, Amazon’s recommendation engine and Netflix’s personalised content suggestions continue to refine customer experiences, making them more tailored and relevant.

However, with the explosion of data comes the responsibility of ensuring privacy and security. As businesses collect more sensitive information, safeguarding that data has become more critical than ever. Governments and organisations are increasingly focused on creating robust frameworks to protect data privacy, with the UK’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) setting the standard for data protection policies worldwide.

The Future of Work in Digital Economies

The rise of digital economies is also changing the way we work. Remote work, freelancing, and digital nomadism have become mainstream in recent years, and 2025 will see these trends continue to flourish. Digital communication tools like Zoom, Slack, and Microsoft Teams enable teams to collaborate effortlessly across borders. Gig economy platforms such as Uber, TaskRabbit, and Fiverr have empowered individuals to monetise their skills on a flexible basis.

This digital transformation is also shifting the nature of available jobs. Demand for positions in tech—such as data scientists, cybersecurity specialists, software developers, and digital marketers—has surged. However, automation and AI are rapidly replacing certain manual jobs, compelling workers to adapt and upskill to remain competitive in the evolving job market.

Governments, businesses, and educational institutions must continue to invest in reskilling initiatives to ensure that workers are equipped to succeed in the digital economy. This includes offering affordable education in fields like coding, digital marketing, and AI, as well as supporting workers displaced by automation through retraining programmes.

Challenges and Risks

While the rise of digital economies has unlocked immense potential, it has also introduced new challenges. One of the biggest concerns is cybersecurity. As businesses and consumers shift more of their activities online, the risks of cyberattacks and data breaches grow. High-profile data hacks and security breaches have raised questions about how to safeguard digital systems and protect personal information.

Another pressing challenge is the growing digital divide. While many people in urban areas have access to fast internet and cutting-edge digital tools, significant portions of the global population— especially in rural areas or developing countries—still lack reliable internet access. This disparity limits economic

opportunities and slows the growth of digital economies in certain parts of the world.

Additionally, the rise of monopolistic digital platforms, with a handful of major players controlling vast sectors of the economy, raises concerns about market concentration and antitrust regulations. As companies scale rapidly, ensuring fair competition and preventing monopolistic practices is critical for a thriving digital economy.

Looking Ahead: 2025 and Beyond

As we look ahead to 2025 and beyond, the digital economy’s trajectory is clear: it will continue to expand, influencing all facets of life. For businesses, the opportunity to innovate, reach new markets, and optimise operations through digital tools is greater than ever. However, success in this rapidly evolving landscape will require companies to remain agile, invest in technology, and be mindful of the new risks emerging in an increasingly connected world.

Ultimately, the rise of digital economies is not just a trend—it’s a fundamental shift that’s transforming how we work, do business, and engage with the world around us. To succeed in this new digital landscape, businesses must adapt, embrace innovation, and continue to invest in technology, all while ensuring they address the risks that accompany this transformation.

STARTUPS LEADING THE WAY: HOW INNOVATION IS RESHAPING BUSINESS

Innovation has always been the driving force behind progress, and in today’s world, startups are leading the charge. These young businesses are disrupting traditional industries, introducing new technologies, and reshaping how companies operate. Unlike larger corporations, which can be slow to change, startups are agile, adaptable, and willing to take risks.

Why Startups Are Leading Innovation

Many large corporations are now partnering with startups, recognising their ability to drive change and inject fresh thinking into established industries.

The Future of Innovation

As the world continues to evolve, startups will remain at the forefront of innovation. With technology advancing at an unprecedented pace and consumer expectations shifting, businesses that can adapt, experiment, and innovate will be the ones shaping the future.

For industries looking to stay competitive, learning from the startup mindset— embracing agility, prioritising customers, and fostering a culture of bold ideas—will be key to long-term success.

As we approach the middle of the decade, the healthcare industry is set to undergo a profound transformation. By 2025, the sector will experience a shift like never before, driven by innovative technologies, changing patient expectations, and an urgent need for efficiency in the face of growing global challenges. From artificial intelligence (AI) to telemedicine, the healthcare system is not merely adapting to change—it is being reshaped in ways that will impact everything from diagnosis to treatment to the overall patient experience.

1. Digital Health and Telemedicine: A New Standard for Care

The rise of digital health technologies and telemedicine, accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, is one of the most significant drivers of healthcare transformation. By 2025, telehealth is expected to be a mainstay in medical practice. Breakthroughs in genomics and biotechnology will make it possible to tailor treatments specifically to the genetic profile of individual patients, paving the way for highly effective therapies with fewer side effects.

In oncology, for instance, the use of gene sequencing and biomarker identification will enable doctors to select the most effective treatments based on both the patient’s and the tumour's genetic makeup. As costs decrease and technology advances, personalised treatments will become the standard of care for a broader range of conditions, including autoimmune disorders, neurological diseases, and rare genetic conditions.

4. Healthcare Access and Equity: Closing the Gaps

A critical aspect of healthcare transformation will be improving access and addressing health equity. As the global population ages and the burden of chronic disease increases, ensuring that healthcare is accessible to all—regardless of geography, socioeconomic status, or ethnicity—will become increasingly important.

Telemedicine and remote patient monitoring have already proven invaluable in improving access to care, particularly in rural and underserved areas. By 2025, these services will be more widely available, alongside mobile health clinics and virtual healthcare teams that extend their reach to the most remote locations. Health systems will also leverage AI-driven tools to assist in diagnosing and triaging patients in areas with limited healthcare resources, ensuring that no one is left behind.

Furthermore, the demand for healthcare professionals with expertise in data science, bioinformatics, and health technology will rise, leading to new career paths within the industry. As automation

HEALTHCARE NEWS

takes over more routine tasks, human healthcare workers will be freed up to focus on higher-value activities, such as patient interaction, emotional support, and complex decision-making.

The Future of Healthcare is Now

As we look towards 2025, it’s clear that healthcare will no longer resemble the traditional model that has defined the industry for centuries. With advances in digital health, AI, personalised medicine, and equitable access, the future of healthcare is set to be more efficient, patient-centric, and accessible than ever before.

However, this transformation will require collaboration across all sectors— healthcare providers, technology companies, policymakers, and patients themselves. By working together, we can ensure that the healthcare system of the future is not only more advanced but also more inclusive and sustainable for generations to come. The healthcare industry is not merely keeping pace with change; it is actively driving the future of health.

Results and Insights

Identified Silt Depths: The survey highlighted sections with significant silt accumulation, with some areas exceeding 120mm of buildup.

Targeted Cleaning Strategy: Maintenance efforts were optimised by prioritising heavily affected areas, reducing unnecessary cleaning operations.

Cost and Time Savings: The technology-driven approach minimised the time required for inspections and improved resource allocation, leading to reduced maintenance costs.

Phase 2: Enhanced Profiling with Advanced Sensor Integration

The Challenge

While the initial survey provided valuable insights, additional accuracy was needed for submerged sections and irregularly shaped pipes so we sought a higher-resolution method to refine data collection.

The Approach

A second phase introduced additional technology for more comprehensive profiling:

Preparation: Survey start and end points were mapped, and environmental conditions were assessed.

Visual Inspection: High-resolution cameras provided real-time footage, confirming pipe conditions and supplementing LiDAR data.

LiDAR Mapping: Used to create a high-precision model of the sewer geometry and real world position above the waterline.

Enhanced Sonar Profiling: Provided 360-degree coverage of submerged sections, capturing highly detailed silt depth and obstruction measurements.

Integrated Data Collection: Simultaneous acquisition of LiDAR and sonar data ensured accurate correlation of results.

Implementation

Deployment Planning: Survey points were carefully selected, and safety protocols were established.

Data Capture: LiDAR scanners recorded the above-water sewer structure, while sonar technology profiled silt distribution underwater.

Analysis and Refinement: The collected data was merged into a detailed 3D model, enhancing maintenance planning.

Results and Insights

Improved Silt Mapping: The advanced LiDAR and sonar systems provided higher-resolution data, revealing additional areas of concern.

Customisable Profiling: The system’s adaptability allowed adjustments in towing speed and sonar coverage to match different pipe conditions.

Anne Van de Poel: A Journey from Sales to Supply Chain Leadership

Anne’s career trajectory is a testament to her adaptability, vision, and leadership acumen. Her journey began at CocaCola, where she gained a wealth of experience in sales, quickly rising through the ranks from Key Account Manager to National Key Account Manager. This early introduction to retail and out-of-home customers, provided Anne with invaluable insights into customer needs and the dynamics of customer-centric thinking. As she navigated the world of consumer goods, Anne developed a strong foundation in negotiation, collaboration, and result-oriented strategies. However, her interest in supply chain management led her to explore roles beyond sales.

Anne’s transition from sales to supply chain management came when she joined Mars Wrigley, where she led local teams in master data management, customer service, and demand planning. It was here that Anne became passionate about breaking down silos between departments and improving customer satisfaction through integrated supply chain processes. She also gained global experience, developing strategies for end-to-end planning and working with emerging markets like India and Brazil to enhance their planning capabilities.

Since joining Bonduelle three years ago, Anne has been at the forefront of driving supply chain excellence across Northern Europe. Her leadership spans demand planning, Integrated Business Planning (IBP), customer service, masterdata, logistics and warehousing. With a team of 15 full-time employees in her direct scope, Anne works across the Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg), UK, and Nordic regions, collaborating closely with different departments and functions to ensure Bonduelle’s supply chain operates as a unified and efficient force.

Anne’s leadership approach is grounded in a “future-back” mindset. She believes in starting with a clear vision of where the company wants to go and building

FOOD PRODUCTION BONDUELLE

strategies that are aligned with that vision. This perspective is vital in the fast-paced world of supply chain management, where disruption and volatility can easily derail progress.

At Bonduelle, Anne ensures her teams are not just executing daily tasks but are motivated by a broader strategic vision. She invests time in explaining the company's long-term goals and illustrating how each team member contributes to achieving these objectives. "It starts with visualising what that North Star is," she explains. "If people understand the purpose and the bigger picture, they are more likely to embrace change and work towards innovative solutions."

To facilitate collaboration and foster a culture of innovation, Anne holds regular working sessions, focusing on translating strategic goals into practical, day-to-day actions. Simple dashboards with leading and lagging KPIs ensure that every team

member can track progress, identify issues, and take corrective actions when needed. Anne also empowers her team by making them responsible for their own targets, offering them the freedom to experiment and learn from mistakesan essential component of innovation.

The importance of upskilling and continuous learning is a cornerstone of Anne’s leadership. She and her management team regularly coach employees on how to prioritise innovation, manage change, and collaborate across departments. They focus on practical methods for overcoming challenges, such as storytelling and role-playing, to help teams internalise new ideas and behaviours. As Anne notes, "You have to make sure people see the value in what they’re doing, and that they are supported to grow and innovate."

Bonduelle’s Sustainability Commitment and B Corp Certification

Sustainability is not just a buzzword at Bonduelle; it is deeply embedded in the company’s mission and values. As a family-owned company, Bonduelle has long embraced the idea of contributing to a more sustainable world by promoting plant-based diets for the health of both people and the planet. This commitment is reflected in the company’s products, which are centred on vegetables, and their recent achievement of B Corp certification, which recognises companies that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. Anne plays a pivotal role in ensuring that sustainability is incorporated into Bonduelle’s supply chain operations. She works closely with vendors and suppliers to ensure they align with Bonduelle’s sustainability objectives, and she champions long-term partnerships that prioritise environmental responsibility. "We collaborate with partners who share our values, and we expect them to meet the same high

standards that we set for ourselves," Anne explains.

One of the key initiatives within Bonduelle is the focus on reducing waste and optimising logistics. Bonduelle’s supply chain team works closely with partners to reduce agricultural losses at the source and minimise waste across the entire logistics process. By collaborating with food waste initiatives and focusing on regenerative agriculture, Bonduelle ensures that its products are sourced and produced in an environmentally responsible manner. Regenerative agriculture, which reduces water usage and prevents land degradation, is integral to Bonduelle’s farming partnerships.

Balancing sustainability with operational efficiency is not without its challenges, as Anne admits. Sometimes, environmentally-friendly solutions can be more costly or less efficient. However, Anne and her team leverage Bonduelle’s Integrated Business Planning (IBP) processes to assess the impact of decisions on both sustainability and efficiency, ensuring that the company’s goals remain in harmony. "We make sure we review the impact of our decisions and scenario plan for both sustainability and efficiency," Anne says. "In this way, we make sure we’re moving forward in both areas, even if sometimes we need to adjust our approach."

Strategic Partnerships and Innovation

For Bonduelle, long-term partnerships are key to driving both innovation and sustainability within the supply chain. Through strategic collaborations, Bonduelle will be able to digitise its operations and incorporate new technologies, making its supply chain more efficient and environmentally friendly.

One of Bonduelle’s notable partnerships is with Jan de Rijk , a logistics provider in the Benelux region with focus on

FOOD PRODUCTION BONDUELLE

secure, fresh and green. Jan de Rijk, like Bonduelle, is a family owned company with a strong heritage. They are Bonduelle’s logistics partner for the ambient vegetables. Both companies share a commitment to sustainability, and their collaboration has focused on reducing CO2 emissions and exploring new methods of transportation, such as bio-diesel trucks. Anne highlights the value of open communication with Jan de Rijk, saying, "We have open discussions about what we want to achieve and what is realistic. It’s about finding common ground and working together to solve challenges."

Bonduelle also engages in partnerships that encourage innovation in supply chain processes. By leveraging predictive analytics and real-time tracking, the company has streamlined operations, improved visibility across its supply chain, and made smarter, data-driven decisions. Anne believes that digital transformation is one of the greatest opportunities for Bonduelle moving forward. "Digitalisation is not the goal—it’s the enabler," she notes. "It’s about using technology and data to solve key business challenges and improve efficiency."

The Future of Bonduelle’s Supply Chain: Embracing Digitalisation and AI

Anne sees AI and digitalisation as crucial tools for transforming the supply chain in the years to come. "AI will be key to making our supply chain more integrated and efficient," she explains. "It will reduce non-value-added work and allow teams to focus on tasks that add greater value." Data analytics and machine learning will enable smarter, faster decisions that will benefit both the company and its customers.

However, Anne acknowledges that the journey towards greater digitalisation is not without challenges. There is a need for a clear strategy that aligns technology with business goals, and this requires a mindset shift across the organisation. "The goal is not to digitise for the sake of it," Anne says. "We need to be clear about what problems we’re solving and how digital tools can help us achieve our goals."

Anne Van de Poel’s leadership at Bonduelle has been marked by a forward-thinking approach that integrates operational efficiency, innovation, and sustainability. Through strategic partnerships, a focus on digital transformation, and a commitment to environmental responsibility, Bonduelle is positioning itself as a leader in both the food industry and supply chain management. Anne’s background in sales, combined with her deep understanding of supply chain operations, has allowed her to drive positive change and create an organisational culture that embraces innovation and collaboration.

As Bonduelle continues its journey towards greater sustainability and supply chain excellence, Anne’s leadership will undoubtedly remain a driving force behind the company’s success. Her commitment to fostering a future-oriented, data-driven, and environmentally responsible supply chain is setting a new standard for how businesses can lead with purpose and create lasting impact.

ANGLOGOLD ASHANTI’S 2024 FINANCIAL SUCCESS AND COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABLE GROWTH

ANGLOGOLD ASHANTI

PROJECT

DIRECTED BY: GLEN NEWTON

AYear of Record Financial Performance

AngloGold Ashanti PLC, a global gold mining leader, has reported an exceptional financial performance for 2024. The company’s latest earnings report reveals remarkable growth in free cash flow, Adjusted EBITDA, and shareholder dividends, driven by strong operational efficiencies, strategic acquisitions, and a favorable gold market.

Key financial highlights from AngloGold Ashanti’s 2024 report include:

• Free cash flow surged nine-fold to $942 million.

• Adjusted EBITDA increased by 93% to $2.747 billion.

• Second-half dividends soared by 263% to 69 US cents per share.

Cost management remained strong, with total cash costs rising by only 4%, well below the group inflation rate.

These financial achievements were supported by the strategic acquisition of Centamin, which added the Sukari mine

to AngloGold Ashanti’s portfolio. Improved operational performances across multiple mines also contributed significantly to this record-breaking year.

A Focus on Shareholder Returns

In addition to its strong earnings, AngloGold Ashanti reaffirmed its commitment to rewarding shareholders. The company introduced a forwardlooking dividend policy targeting a 50% payout of free cash flow, ensuring consistent returns even during market fluctuations. With disciplined capital allocation and ongoing operational

improvements, AngloGold Ashanti aims to sustain this growth trajectory in the coming years.

The Redevelopment and Success of the Obuasi Mine

AngloGold Ashanti’s financial strength is also evident in the successful redevelopment of its Obuasi mine in Ghana. Since being featured in Business Enquirer in September 2023, the mine has made significant strides in its ten-year SocioEconomic Development Plan (SEDP), a blueprint for sustainable community engagement and economic empowerment.

Obuasi, an underground mine in Ghana’s Ashanti region, has a long history dating back to 1987. After ceasing operations in 2014, the mine underwent a feasibility study in 2017, leading to a redevelopment project that commenced in 2019. By Q4 of that year, the first gold was poured, marking a new beginning for the mine.

Phase 3 Development and World Record Achievement

Now in Phase 3 of its redevelopment, AngloGold Ashanti is working on the infrastructure needed to ramp up production to 5,000 tonnes per day (tpd), with full completion expected by the end of 2024.

A major milestone in this redevelopment was the completion of the Kwesi Mensa Ventilation Shaft (KMVS), a world recordbreaking engineering feat.

Depth: 941 meters

Diameter: 6.5 meters

Significance: The world's largest raisebore hole, providing ventilation to the Kwesi Mensa Shaft (KMS) infrastructure.

The KMVS was successfully completed in collaboration with Redpath Thonket and local contractors such as Mining Tools Ghana, MAC Partners, and MCS Ghana, showcasing the company’s dedication to safety, innovation, and local workforce engagement.

As of 2024, AngloGold Ashanti reports that the Obuasi Mine holds mineral reserves of 7.11 Moz of gold, with annual gold production reaching 224 koz. This long-term investment is set to ensure continued production and economic benefits for Ghana for decades to come.

Commitment to Sustainability and Community Development

Mining companies worldwide are increasingly focused on sustainable development, and AngloGold Ashanti

is no exception. The company has consistently emphasized the importance of environmental stewardship, community engagement, and fair distribution of mining benefits.

Climate Resilience and Agricultural Initiatives

One of the most impactful projects at Obuasi is the Climate Resilience Oil Palm Plantation (CROPP) initiative.

• In 2023, AngloGold Ashanti distributed 30,000 high-yield oil palm seedlings to farmers.

• In 2024, this commitment was expanded with the allocation of 60,000 additional seedlings across six districts in Ghana’s Ashanti region.

This initiative aims to:

• Improve farmers’ livelihoods through oil palm production.

• Contribute to Ghana’s deforestation mitigation targets

By promoting sustainable agriculture, AngloGold Ashanti is helping communities build long-term economic resilience beyond mining operations.

The 10-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (SEDP)

Launched in 2022, AngloGold Ashanti’s SEDP is a blueprint for Obuasi’s future, designed to create a lasting positive impact. The plan focuses on three main outcomes:

• Improved social development (healthcare, education, infrastructure).

• A diversified, sustained local economy (entrepreneurship, industrialization).

• Strengthened partnerships (government and community engagement).

Since the launch of SEDP:

• Water systems have been provided to four communities, with plans for five more installations.

Moreover, Kamoa Copper places a high priority on safety. Throughout the construction of the Phase 3 concentrator, the company achieved an impressive safety record, completing 10 million work hours without a single injury. Such a focus on safety not only enhances the well-being of the workforce but also contributes to the company’s long-term success and reputation in the industry.

MasterCard Foundation to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Obuasi.

This collaboration has resulted in four major projects:

Putting Sustainability First

• The company partnered with Ghana’s Environmental Protection Agency and local authorities to establish the “Keep Obuasi Clean” campaign, promoting hygiene and community cleanliness through monthly cleanup exercises.

• Schools have introduced programs where pupils serve as hygiene ambassadors, ensuring the longevity of cleanliness initiatives.

Empowering SMEs and Local Entrepreneurs

At the heart of Kamoa Copper’s operations lies a commitment to sustainability. The company recognises the importance of balancing economic growth with environmental stewardship and social responsibility. It actively seeks to minimise its carbon footprint while utilising natural resources judiciously.

AngloGold Ashanti understands that a thriving local economy is key to long-term sustainability. The company has partnered with Absa Bank Ghana Limited and the

• Business Acceleration and Sustainability (BAST): Helps SMEs develop organizational systems and access financing.

Ben Munanga explained, “Sustainability is central to everything we do. We are dedicated to ensuring our operations contribute positively to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in areas such as clean water, responsible consumption, and climate action.” This holistic approach underscores Kamoa Copper's dedication to making a positive impact beyond its mining activities.

• Women in E-commerce: Supports female entrepreneurs in digital and online business ventures.

• Business Supply Chain Development: Strengthens local businesses to secure contracts with AngloGold Ashanti.

A crucial element of Kamoa Copper’s sustainability strategy is its innovative waste management practices. The company employs advanced techniques to reduce the environmental impact of mining by pumping waste back underground to support mining structures, thereby decreasing surface storage needs. Additionally, Kamoa

LEADING THE CHARGE IN SUSTAINABLE MINING

As the global economy continues to transition towards sustainability, the demand for critical metals has surged. These metals are vital for the renewable energy industry, particularly for electric vehicles (EVs), solar power, and wind technologies. Orion Minerals Limited, an Australian-based diversified metals exploration and development company, is positioned to play a significant role in this shift, thanks to its forward-thinking projects in South Africa’s Northern Cape and the visionary leadership of its Managing Director and CEO, Errol Smart.

Orion Minerals’ flagship project, the Prieska Copper-Zinc Mine (PCZM), exemplifies the company’s strategic focus on providing the metals essential for the green energy revolution. The Prieska mine, once a major copper producer in South Africa, is undergoing a revival, with plans for modernisation and increased production capacity. The project is set to begin copper and zinc production by late 2025, with an annual output of around 22,000 tonnes of copper and 70,000 tonnes of zinc. These metals are in high demand, as they are fundamental to EV batteries, renewable energy systems, and electronic devices. The company’s Okiep Copper Project (OCP) also promises substantial growth potential. Located in the same region, Okiep encompasses several historic mines, with recent drilling confirming

high-grade copper deposits. Orion is finalising its feasibility studies for Okiep and anticipates making significant progress on the project within the next 12 months. This venture is an important addition to the company’s portfolio, helping to position Orion as a key player in the base metals sector as demand for copper and other critical materials continues to rise.

Beyond traditional copper and zinc projects, Orion is also innovating within the refining sector. The company is developing the Stratega Metals Vapour Refining Project, a game-changing initiative to establish South Africa’s first refinery dedicated to processing materials needed for battery production, including nickel, copper, cobalt, and platinum group elements (PGEs). As the

world moves towards renewable energy and electric transportation, the need for high-quality battery materials will only grow. By pursuing this project, Orion is positioning itself to take advantage of the rapidly expanding battery market, providing critical resources for a decarbonised future.

Central to Orion’s success is the leadership of Errol Smart, whose extensive experience in exploration, mine development, and operations spans over 30 years. As a geologist registered for JORC purposes, Smart has a wealth of expertise in both precious and base metals. His previous roles in major mining companies, such as Anglogold, Cluff Mining, Metallon Gold, and LionGold Corporation, have equipped him with the technical

knowledge and strategic vision necessary to guide Orion through the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Smart’s leadership goes beyond technical knowledge. He has a strong track record of leading businesses through complex regulatory and financial landscapes, particularly in Africa. As a current Director on the Board of the Minerals Council South Africa, Smart is well connected within the mining industry, and his influence extends beyond Orion, shaping the direction of the mining sector as a whole. His focus on sustainability, community engagement, and longterm shareholder value is evident in the company's projects and its approach to responsible mining.

Putting Sustainability First

At the heart of Kamoa Copper’s operations lies a commitment to sustainability. The company recognises the importance of balancing economic growth with environmental stewardship and social responsibility. It actively seeks to minimise its carbon footprint while utilising natural resources judiciously.

Orion is committed to fostering positive relationships with local communities, prioritising local employment and skills development. The company has worked hard to ensure that its projects bring tangible benefits to the regions in which it operates, from creating jobs to supporting local suppliers. In addition, Orion has implemented sustainable practices to mitigate the environmental impact of its operations. The company is investing in technologies such as ore-sorting, which reduces waste and enhances the efficiency of the mining process, ensuring that more of the resource is extracted with minimal environmental damage. As the world focuses on reducing carbon emissions and advancing clean energy technologies, the demand for base metals is expected to grow exponentially. Orion Minerals is in a strong position to capitalise on this demand, with projects that are not only valuable for their economic potential but also crucial for the energy transition.

The company’s focus on copper, zinc, and battery materials aligns perfectly with global trends, and its forward-thinking approach to refining technologies ensures that it remains at the cutting edge of the industry.

Looking ahead, Orion is actively seeking strategic partnerships to support its projects and facilitate growth. The company has been engaging with potential partners to secure financing and further the development of its key assets. As the demand for critical minerals continues to increase, collaboration with other mining entities, governments, and financial institutions will be essential in driving Orion’s future success.

A crucial element of Kamoa Copper’s sustainability strategy is its innovative waste management practices. The company employs advanced techniques to reduce the environmental impact of mining by pumping waste back underground to support mining structures, thereby decreasing surface storage needs. Additionally, Kamoa

Orion’s participation in industry events such as the Critical Minerals Africa Summit demonstrates its commitment to positioning Africa as a hub for investment in critical minerals. By building

LEADING THE WAY IN COPPER AND LITHIUM PRODUCTION, TECHNOLOGY, & SUSTAINABILITY

CODELCO PROJECT DIRECTED BY: GARY SMITH

ARTICLE WRITTEN BY: ELOISE PERRY

Codelco (Corporación Nacional del Cobre de Chile), the National Copper Corporation of Chile, is a major driver of the Chilean economy and the largest copper-producing company in the world. In addition to copper, they also produce small quantities of gold and other rare metals. These operations are carried out through its seven mining divisions: Chuquicamata, Ministro Hales, Radomiro Tomic, Gabriela Mistral, Salvador, Andina, El Teniente, as well as the Ventanas Smelter and Refinery.

Founded as the state Copper Office in 1951 by President Carlos Ibanez del Campo, Codelco’s roots run deep. Copper mining in Chile dates back for centuries, particularly at Chuquicamata, as evidenced by the discovery of the “Copper Man,” a mummy dated around 550 A.D. found in 1898 in an ancient mine shaft. Copper mining in the region began in earnest in the 19th century, and in 1971, the Chilean government nationalised the industry, with formal ownership finalised by decree on April 1st, 1976, under dictator General Augusto Pinochet.

Howden’s Solutions

MINING CODELCO

Ruben Alvarado was appointed CEO on September 1st, 2023, and is leading Codelco forward with a focus on expanding its operations and diversifying into new markets. In May of 2023, the company began the construction of a massive desalination plant, designed to supply water to Radomiro Tomic, Ministro Hales, and Chuquicamata with desalinated water-a vital resource in Chile’s arid northern region.

In 2023, Codelco achieved several significant milestones. The company signed a joint venture agreement with Rio Tinto to explore and develop a copper project in the northern Atacama region. Ruben Alvarado also celebrated the achievement of The Copper Mark certification for Codelco’s mines, smelters, and refineries, a recognition of the highest sustainability standards in the industry. Additionally, construction of the Trepaso Andina was completed on April 2nd, with the delivery of secondary crushing to the operation, while the first phase of the Chuquicamata Underground infrastructure reached 56.2% progress.

Codelco’s forward-looking strategy is evident in its move into the lithium market. The company secured an agreement with SQM for the exploitation of lithium in the Salar de Maricunga, bolstered by its acquisition of Lithium Power International (LPI) in March 2023. This acquisition is poised to capitalise on the growing demand for lithium, ensuring Codelco remains competitive in this burgeoning sector. In addition, Codelco’s collaborations with Rio Tinto, El Abra, and Anglo American (owner of Los Bronces) continue to foster new opportunities, including the exploration and development of the Nuevo Cobre project in the Atacama region.

Thinking about what lies ahead, Ruben Alvarado envisions Codelco’s production growing steadily over the next decade. He predicts that annual production in 2024 will exceed that of 2023, driven by increased operational efficiency at the Andina concentrator, improved performance at the Chuquicamata underground mine, the commissioning of the Rajo Inca project, and better open-

pit production at Ministro Hales. Alvarado is confident that Codelco’s production will enter a long-term growth trajectory, reaching 1.7 million tons per year by 2030.

Key to Codelco’s future growth is the Chuquicamata mine complex. The current open-pit operation is nearing its economic limit due to the declining quality of the accessible ore. However, the shift to underground mining, which began in 2019, will extend the life of the mine until 2060. The underground operation, using the block-caving method, features advanced infrastructure such as airextraction shafts, clean air injection ramps, and a 7.5 km main access tunnel. The $4.2 billion investment in the underground operation will help produce 140,000 tonnes of ore per day, with a focus on copper and molybdenum production.

The El Teniente underground mine is another crown jewel of Codelco. With over 3,000 kilometers of underground drifts, it is the largest underground copper mine in the world. El Teniente is a key contributor to Codelco’s production, with approximately 350,000 metric tons of copper mined annually. The New Mine Level structural project, which began in 2011, will allow output to increase without interrupting current operations.

Advancements in technology are also playing a pivotal role in Codelco’s growth. The company is integrating robotics, automation, and advanced analytics to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and promote sustainability. Codelco is employing automated vehicles in several of its operations, including more than 40 Sandvik autonomous loaders and trucks at El Teniente, which are now equipped with the AutoMine® Fleet system to support large-scale, complex automation in challenging environments.

In 2023, Codelco expanded its autonomous fleet with the addition of the Sandvik Toro™ LH518iB loader. This new, 100% electric, semi-autonomous loader, which boasts zero direct greenhouse gas emissions and 80% greater tractive force than its diesel counterpart, is expected to
