READY FOR TAKEOFF
I’m happy to share our seventh annual North Carolina Aviation and Aerospace Directory with you. As you will see by the number of companies and organizations on the following pages, the industry continues to fly high.
Global players in the aerospace industry, such as Boeing, Cessna, GE Aviation, Honda Aircraft, Lockheed Martin, Spirit AeroSystems and Boom Supersonic, call North Carolina home. They choose to work here because of connectivity, a skilled workforce and a business-friendly environment. North Carolina boasts the country’s second-fastest growing aerospace manufacturing sector, which includes aerospace maintenance and military aviation enterprises, 14 commercial-airline operators and 26 air-freight companies. And the state is at the forefront of innovations that are propelling the growth of unmanned aircraft systems, better known as drones.
According to the N.C. Department of Transportation’s Division of Aviation:
• Each year, more than 50 million passengers fly into and out of the state’s 72 public and 300-plus private airports, heliports and landing areas.
• Commercial and general aviation airports generate about $31 billion annually, while providing more than 123,000 jobs.
• More than 20,000 drones in North Carolina are registered with the Federal Aviation Administration — including hundreds used by businesses and local and state government agencies.
We’ve listed regional airports statewide, along with some private ones that are open to the public, in the directory too.
I’d like to thank our sponsors for making this directory, too.. We couldn’t have done it without their support. Here’s to the thriving aviation and aerospace industry that keeps North Carolina first in flight.

LENOIR COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Soars to New
Heights in Aviation Education
Lenoir Community College is charting a bold course for aviation education in North Carolina, aligning its programs with the demands of a growing industry. With the groundbreaking of the Senator Jim Perry Aviation Center for Excellence (ACE), the upcoming Aviation Academy for high schoolers, and recent FAA certification for the Airframe program, LCC is poised to make a lasting impact.
The FAA certification marks a significant milestone, ensuring the Airframe program equips students with the skills required by local employers such as flyExclusive, Draken, Mountain Air Cargo, and Fleet Readiness Center East. The program has already enrolled a full cohort, with a waitlist signaling strong demand. The Powerplant certification will follow suit once ACE opens its doors. Complementing the Airframe program are LCC’s offerings in aviation management; manned, unmanned, and career pilot programs; and industrial systems technology.
LCC is also extending its reach to high school students through the Aviation Academy, set to launch soon. This initiative will provide free college education for juniors and seniors, creating a seamless path to a two-year aviation degree and offering transfer pathways to four-year institutions, including partnerships with East Carolina University and Elizabeth City State University.
All programs currently operate from the Aviation and Advanced Manufacturing Center at the NC Global TransPark in Kinston. However, a new chapter begins with the construction of the Senator Jim Perry Aviation Center for Excellence. This state-of-the-art facility will feature advanced classrooms, maintenance labs, and a heated aircraft hangar.
Scheduled to open in spring of 2026, ACE will offer degree programs, short-term training, and interdisciplinary collaboration, serving as a hub for innovation and research in aviation.
With these advancements, LCC continues to elevate its aviation programs, preparing students for high-demand careers while contributing to the region’s economic growth. By investing in cutting-edge facilities and forward-thinking programs, LCC is securing its place as a leader in aviation education.

PIEDMONT TRIAD INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
A Strategic Nexus for Aerospace Innovation
Piedmont Triad International Airport (PTI) has emerged as a cornerstone of North Carolina’s aerospace industry and a critical hub in the Southeast’s innovation ecosystem. Its continued evolution demonstrates a compelling success story in long-term strategic planning, public- private collaboration, and the economic potential of the region.
“A decade ago, we set out to position PTI as a catalyst for regional growth in aerospace,” says Kevin Baker, PTI’s executive director. “Today, that vision is being realized with each subsequent addition to our campus and the airport now at the forefront of industry innovation and economic impact.”
Core to this transformation is the arrival of stalwarts, like Marshall Aerospace, a Great Britain- based, storied Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul company (MRO). Marshall has located its North American headquarters on the airport and will be maintaining C-130 transport aircraft for various branches of the U.S. Department of Defense. Its facility is slated to launch operations in early 2025. This development, set to create 250 jobs, underscores PTI’s ability to attract global leaders in aviation by oXering a unique value proposition: a central location, robust infrastructure, and access to an educated and skilled workforce.
PTI’s rise is rooted in deliberate and forward-thinking strategy. Over a decade ago, the airport embarked on an ambitious plan aimed at aligning assets with the demands of the
aerospace industry. The vision included a 1,000-acre aerospace “mega-site,” pregraded and ready to expedite industrial expansion. The result? A magnet for industry leaders like Honda Aircraft Company, Haeco Americas, Textron Aviation and Boom Supersonic, which all now call PTI home, further validating the airport’s appeal as a nexus of aerospace activity.
But PTI’s strategy extends beyond infrastructure. By integrating with regional stakeholders— including local governments, universities, and private investors—the airport has created an ecosystem designed to accelerate innovation and sustain long-term growth. This holistic approach ensures its competitive advantages remain durable in an increasingly globalized industry.
Driving along Interstate 73, the visible markers of PTI’s transformation— state-of-the-art facilities and bustling construction sites—speak to the economic vitality of its strategy. Baker reflects on the airport’s success: “Without the foresight to develop ready-to-build sites and align with the needs of the aerospace sector, we would not be in this position to lead.”
With its $9 billion regional economic impact and a growing roster of global aerospace leaders, PTI exemplifies how strategic alignment of resources and vision can redefine regional competitiveness. As the aerospace industry continues to evolve, PTI is not merely participating—it is shaping the future.

PIEDMONT TRIAD PARTNERSHIP
North Carolina’s first in flight history with major operations in the Carolina Core, a 120 mile corridor stretching from west of Winston-Salem through the Triad and down to Fayetteville. Aerospace employment continues to take off in the Carolina Core, increasing 40% between 2014 and 2019 to more than 15,600 working at aerospacerelated companies.
TALENT HITS NEW HEIGHTS
Among the 200-plus aerospace and aviation companies in the Carolina Core is Honda Aircraft Company, which established its Greensboro headquarters in 2006 and operates R&D, manufacturing and customer service facilities that together employ 1,500 associates throughout the region. Other major operations include HAECO Americas, with 600,00 square feet of facilities including a new hangar that is one of the largest in the HAECO family, and Textron Aviation, operating one of only 15 service centers for Cessna business jets worldwide.
Aerospace and aviation companies tap into the Carolina Core’s skilled talent pool to design, engineer and move their next big innovation. “Talent in the Carolina Core has a strong work ethic,” says Michimasa Fujino, former president and CEO of Honda Aircraft Company. The area’s talent pool is rapidly growing and projected to add 1 million people over the next 25 years to its current population of 8 million. Most recently, Boom Supersonic selected Piedmont Triad International Airport as the location for its manufacturing facility for its new supersonic passenger aircraft, planned to begin production in 2025.
SITES READY FOR TAKEOFF
Companies have access to more than 30 colleges and universities that enroll 250,000 students, with aviation-related training concentrated at area community colleges. Guilford Technical Community College’s Aviation Campus is one of the most modern and best-equipped aviation maintenance training facilities in the Southeast. At Forsyth Technical Community College, a new $16 million aviation center will accommodate eight airframes and help meet the growing demand for aviation technicians and mechanics, with the first class of 25 students beginning in Fall 2020.
The Carolina Core has several industrial sites ready for aerospace and aviation operations. At the Piedmont Triad International Airport, the PTI Aerospace Megasite’s 1,000 acres include runway access and preliminary approval for development by the EPA. Other commercial and regional airports along the Carolina Core offer development sites with airfield access and plenty of industrial and business parks for off-airport operations.

NORTH CAROLINA GLOBAL TRANSPARK
Advancing Aviation, Defense, and Economic Growth
The North Carolina Global TransPark (NCGTP) in Kinston, North Carolina, is a 2,500-acre industrial and aviation hub that drives aerospace, defense, and economic development advancements. The park is an ideal location featuring the Kinston Regional Jetport Part 139-certified airport with an 11,500-foot runway, over 500 development-ready acres, rail access, and customized workforce training programs on-site.
Draken International, a leading provider of adversary air services, is among NCGTP’s prominent tenants. Draken’s fleet includes 13 A-4 Skyhawks, 11 Mirage F1s, and 3 L-159 Honey Badgers, enabling the company to conduct up to 1,500 sorties annually. These training missions prepare U.S. pilots for real-world combat scenarios. “The infrastructure investment in runway, taxiway, and hangars showed us that North Carolina and Kinston are serious about growing their aviation industry,” says Jose “Hoser” Monteagudo, Vice President and General Manager of Draken.
Fleet Readiness Center East (FRC East) also plays a critical role at NCGTP. After establishing a satellite office in 2021 to maintain Air Force UH-1 “Huey” helicopters, FRC East is expanding to a 75-acre site with 700,000 square feet of facilities and over 400 full-time employees. This expansion will support maintenance for Navy and Marine Corps C/KC-130J Super Hercules, C/KC-130T Hercules, and Air Force HH-60W Jolly Green II aircraft. “Current projections have the aircrafts’ service lives stretching until 2064 and will benefit the community well into the future,” says Matthew McCann, head of FRC East’s Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul Logistics Department.
NCGTP began constructing a new fuel farm in 2023 to further bolster its capabilities. Scheduled for completion in February 2025, the facility will have the potential capacity of 500,000 gallons of aircraft fuel and meet Department of Defense specifications to support military fuel needs while enabling future revenue-generating opportunities for the airport.
These projects underscore the N.C. Global TransPark’s critical role in supporting defense-serving contractors. By aligning public resources and private investment, NCGTP strengthens national security and drives innovation and economic growth, ensuring long-term prosperity for Eastern North Carolina.

GUILFORD TECHNICAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Elevation at GTCC
At the heart of North Carolina’s Triad region, a rapidly expanding aerospace hub boasting nearly 200 aviation companies, Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) has established itself as a cornerstone of aviation education.
With a legacy spanning over five decades, GTCC’s Aviation Program has become an essential talent pipeline for the industry, producing skilled professionals equipped to excel in various aviation careers. The college’s comprehensive approach covers all aspects of the field, from piloting and maintenance to manufacturing and management, ensuring graduates are versatile and wellprepared for the multifaceted demands of modern aviation.
GTCC’s commitment to cutting-edge aviation education is further exemplified by its ambitious expansion plans. The college is set to break ground on a new 70,000-square-foot aviation training facility at its Cameron Campus in the second half of 2025. This state-of-the-art facility, designed by LS3P architects, represents a $36.4 million investment funded by both the state of North Carolina and Guilford County. Scheduled to open for classes in January 2027, this new building will significantly enhance GTCC’s capacity to train the next generation of aviation professionals.
The college’s current facilities are already impressive, including two dedicated aviation campuses near Piedmont Triad International Airport. The T.H. Davis Aviation Center, with its expansive hangar, and the Ceasar Cone II Aviation Building, housing advanced flight simulators, provide students with an immersive learning environment and unparalleled access to real-world aviation operations.
What truly sets GTCC apart is its robust network of industry partnerships. Collaborations with aviation giants such as HondaJet, HAECO, Boeing, Marshall, and SpaceX ensure that the curriculum remains cutting-edge and aligned with industry needs. These partnerships also provide students with invaluable internship opportunities, often leading to direct employment upon graduation.
GTCC’s program offerings are diverse, including Career Pilot Technology, Aviation Management, Aviation Systems Technology, Aviation Electronics Technology, and Aerospace Manufacturing Technology. This wide range of specializations allows students to tailor their education to their specific career aspirations.
As the aviation industry continues to evolve, GTCC’s Aviation Program remains at the forefront, adapting to new technologies and industry trends. By combining comprehensive education, hands-on training, and strong industry connections, GTCC is not just training students – it’s shaping the future of aviation, one graduate at a time.
