One World Romania May 13-22, several locations

The One World Festival returns in 2022 with over 60 international long, medium, and short films, most of which are national premieres. This year, the screenings will take place in two stages: physically, between May 13-22, in Bucharest, at Cinema Elvire Popesco, ARCUB, Cinemateca Eforie, and other indoor or outdoor locations in the city, then online, between May 23-31. The main theme highlights the interaction between man and the environment, whether natural or built, and holistically addresses the notion of “ecology,” from the perspective of both the individual and the environment in which we live.

Hooverphonic concert May 24, Arenele Romane

Hooverphonic comes from Belgium, and in over 20 years of activity the band has released 10 albums and hits such as “Mad About You,” “Eden” or “2 Wicky,” combining trip hop with alternative rock and electronic music. Their latest record is “Looking For Stars,” released in 2018. Hooverphonic’s tracks have been featured on the soundtracks of many films and shows such as CSI, La Femme Nikita, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Permanent Midnight, The Interview, Stealing Beauty or Third Watch. Ticket prices start from RON 109.

Iron Maiden concert May 26, Romexpo

Legendary British band Iron Maiden will return to Romania to promote its new album “Senjutsu,” which was released on September 3, 2021. German band Lord Of The Lost will play in the opening. The 2022 show will also feature hits from the band’s entire career. Iron Maiden last appeared on stage in Romania in 2016, so it will be the first time when Romanian fans will be able to witness the famous Legacy show and hear new songs live for the first time. Deadmau5, Fedde Le Grand, R3HAB, Shouse, Alan Fitzpatrick b2b Luigi Madonna, Artbat, Coeus, James Hype, Joseph Capriati, Oxia, and Reinier Zonneveld are among the DJs who will bring explosive shows to Bucharest at the beginning of this summer. With every edition, SAGA brings the coolest and freshest DJs on its stages and offers participants lots of surprises both in terms of the production of the show and its line-up. Romania’s first festival of 2022 will bring a unique concept, an eclectic mix of artists and EDM genres, and sounds that are sure to guarantee that festival goers will have great fun and want to dance till morning.

World Press Photo 2022 Until June 4, Universitatii Square

The World Press Photo Competition recognises quality photojournalism and rewards images and stories from around the world. This year, out of 64,823 entries submitted by 4,066 photographers from 130 countries, 241 regional and 4 global winners were selected: Photography Award of the Year: Kamloops Residential School by Amber Bracken, Canada, for The New York Times; Article of the Year Award: Saving Forests with Fire by Matthew Abbott, Australia, for National Geographic/Panos Pictures; Long Term Project Award: Amazonian Dystopia by Lalo de Almeida, Brazil, for Folha de São Paulo/Panos Pictures; Multimedia Project Award: Blood is a Seed by Isadora Romero, Ecuador.

Art Safari Until August 7, Dacia Palace

For this edition, the event will present exhibitions showcasing the work of Theodor Aman, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Reuven Rubin, Irina Dragomir, and Barbara Klemm. The central pavilion¬—Picasso, Dali & Falla – Le Tricorne—will present the work of Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dalí created for Manuel de Falla’s ballet, Le Tricorne. Art Safari’s contemporary pavilion will feature the Irina Dragomir. Red, yellow, and blue exhibition, while the guest pavilion will showcase the Who was Reuven Rubin? exhibition, dedicated to the work of Romanian-born Israeli artist Reuven Rubin (18931974). The anniversary pavilion will present the photography exhibition Barbara Klemm. Light and Dark. curated by Matthias Flügge, which features works by one of Germany’s most distinguished photographers. The exhibition dedicated to Theodor Aman, curated by Elena Olariu, aims to highlight the personality of the artist who founded the local School of Fine Arts.
