The People Have Spoken: Leave Means Leave ï‚·

Eric Edmeades ✔ For all these people calling for a second Brexit vote, can't you see how anti-democratic that is? The people voted. The people spoke. The people have been heard. They voted in a national referendum, and we should follow this vote, no matter how close it was, no matter how circumstances have changed, no matter what new information we have and indeed no matter how that victory was done. The people have spoken. And don't try to remind me that Nigel Farage made it very clear that he would have called for a second referendum had he had lost by a similar margin. That was just campaign talk. Further, I think we should take a long hard look at democracy. From now on, I think the UK should elect their MP's and, therefore, their PM, with life-long appointments. Let the people vote. And once they have voted, it is anti-democratic to ask them to keep voting every few years. Let them decided on the government they want and be done with it. ---On the off chance you made it this far and took me seriously, I am sorry. To be clear, I
am all for the people having the right to revisit the destiny of Great Britain. Brexit is one of the most significant decisions in British history. And the decision should be made correctly. Please remember a few essential details: 1) Farage did make it very clear, before the vote, that he would call for a second referendum if he lost by a narrow majority. (Now, however, he suggests that a second referendum would be a "betrayal" -- he is a win at all costs guy; even at the cost of democracy.)
2) Boris is now facing private criminal (not civil) prosecution for the knowingly misleading statements he made during the campaign. He was warned about his misstatements and continued to make them to sway ill-informed voters. 3) Many of the people who voted to leave did not vote for a poorly negotiated deal or a 'hard exit' and had the vote been between 'remain and hard exit' things may well have been different.
The fact is that people are now far more aware of what their vote means and the only logical reason Farage or anyone else could have for denying the people (if enough of them want it) a second referendum is that they care more about winning (getting it 'their way') than about the will of the people (democracy).
